Another one of Marin Kitagawa and Wakana Gojo’s stunning costumes comes to life in a new My Dress-Up Darling cosplay.

Uploaded on Reddit by MC_707, the Rizu-kyun cosplay features the cute devil’s dark red hair, pointy ears and black horns. The talented anime fan has also crafted impressive renditions of other popular characters like Spy x Family’s Yor, My Hero Academia’s Rabbit Hero Mirko and My Dress-Up Darling’s Kitagawa.

How My Dress-Up Darling Encourages Readers to Be True to Themselves

A story about falling in love and making cosplay, Shinichi Fukuda’s My Dress-Up Darling manga follows high schoolers Kitagawa and Gojo as they combine her passion for anime and video games with his incredible sewing skills to make the ultimate costume-making team; Rizu-kyun is the fourth cosplay the duo pulls off together. The ongoing series first appeared in Square Enix’s Young Gangan in January 2018 and has gone on to sell over 9 million copies.

The anime adaptation by studio CloverWorks premiered in January 2022 and quickly became one of the season’s most successful and popular shows. It received several nominations at this year’s Crunchyroll Anime Awards, including Best Character Design, Best Main Character and Best New Series. A second season has been announced, but at the time of writing, the studio has not confirmed an official release date.

My Dress-Up Darling Cosplays Inspire Real-Life Looks

Rizu-kyun isn’t the only one of Kitagawa and Gojo’s cosplays from My Dress-Up Darling to inspire real-world creatives. In particular, the pairs’ first attempt at costume-making — Shizuku-tan, a character from one of Kitagawa’s favorite in-world video games — has become a popular choice among members of the anime cosplay community. For example, JinxTheFunHouse showed off their interpretation of the dark purple-haired beauty with a cosplay that accurately recreates Shizuku-tan’s black maid outfit. Similarly, Sakura Kitsune shared their take on the character, explaining in the comments that “cosplaying a cosplayer’s cosplay is totally my thing.”

Kitagawa herself has also inspired a wealth of cosplay. Most notably, Akari Akase, a famous Japanese singer and model, celebrated the character’s birthday by dressing up as her. “Happy Birthday, Marin,” she stated in the Twitter post. “I love you, a wonderful woman who is sparkling and dazzling and who enjoys her hobbies and love to the fullest!!” Moreover, costume-making master Nymphahri fully embodied Kitagawa’s energetic and fun-loving personality in a cosplay that highlights the high school student’s blue-and-white uniform.

Square Enix distributes Fukuda’s manga in North America, and CloverWorks’ My Dress-Up Darling anime is available to stream on Crunchyroll.
