Peter Parker’s evil clone, Ben Reilly/Chasm, is teaming with Venom in Marvel’s upcoming Dark Web event, which also stars Spider-Man, the X-Men and more.
Dark Web is a new crossover event launching later this year from Marvel. The publisher announced the event would see Venom side with Chasm in an attempt to take down Spider-Man during Dark Web, though Venom’s motivations remain ambiguous at this time. As revealed in Free Comic Book Day 2022: Spider-Man / Venom #1, Chasm has also aligned himself with Madelyn Pryor/the Goblin Queen, who recently became Limbo’s new ruler in New Mutants #28.
Dark Web begins and ends with one-shots, subtitled Dusk and Dawn, written by Zeb Wells and featuring art by Adam Kubert. Marvel teased of the first issue, “Dark Web #1 will reveal the true scope of Madelyne and Ben’s wicked alliance, what it means for Spider-Man and the X-Men, and the surprising role Venom will play. The sun is setting, dusk is approaching, and it’s going to be a long night.”
Marvel’s Dark Web Expands
Following the first issue, Dark Web spills out onto the pages of The Amazing Spider-Man #15-16, Venom #14, Gold Goblin #2 and the upcoming Mary Jane & Black Cat series. Additionally, Marvel announced a new three-issue Dark Web: X-Men limited series by writer Gerry Duggan and artist Rod Reis, which will see the mutants have to protect the planet from a demon invasion led by Madelyn. Marvel teased, “In Dark Web: X-Men #1, chaos reigns in the streets of New York City as demon hordes pour forth from the realm of Limbo…a realm that until recently was ruled by Magik. A realm now ruled by Cyclops’ ex. Also, Havok’s ex. Also, a clone of Jean. The X-Men wade into the fray by taking on some of their darker history as the Goblin Queen returns for vengeance! The not-so-happy reunions continue in Dark Web: X-Men #2 Some reunions – like those with an evil ex who rules a dimension of demons – are not so great. Sometimes even having your AMAZING FRIENDS at your side isn’t enough to save things.”
Ms. Marvel will also get her own Dark Web limited series, Dark Web: Ms. Marvel, from writer Sabir Pirzada and artist Francesco Mortarino. After having joined Norman Osborn’s Oscorp company as a new intern, the series will see Ms. Marvel act as “the last line of defense against a bunch of deadly and dangerous experiments going haywire thanks to Maddie and Ben’s demonic machinations!”
The event begins on Dec. 7 with Dark Web #1 (by Wells and Kubert, with a wraparound variant cover by Ryan Stegman). Following on Dec. 14 are The Amazing Spider-Man #15 (by Wells, Ed McGuiness and cover artist John Romita Jr.) and Dark Web: X-Men #1 (featuring cover art by Phil Noto). Dec. 21 brings Dark Web: Ms. Marvel #1 (featuring cover art by Marco Checchetto), Mary Jane & Black Cat #1 (by Jed Mackay, Vincenzo Carratu and cover artist J. Scott Campbell) and Gold Goblin #2 (by Christopher Cantwell, Lan Medina and cover artist Taurin Clarke).
