A Star Wars cosplayer has shared images of herself as Rey Skywalker’s dark side persona, Empress Palpatine, on social media.
A content creator who goes by the handle ZooGirlQ recently uploaded photos of herself cosplaying as Dark Rey. “[C]all me.. Empress,” she wrote on Twitter alongside the impressive images that include the character’s infamous double-bladed lightsaber. The Sith version of Daisy Ridley’s Rey first appeared in 2019’s Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker as a vision, with Rey dueling this mirror version of herself on the remains of the second Death Star.
Ridley first portrayed Rey in the seventh episode of the Skywalker Saga, 2015’s Star Wars: The Force Awakens. As the main protagonist of the sequel trilogy, Rey also appeared in 2017’s The Last Jedi and 2019’s The Rise of Skywalker. Outside of films, the character has appeared in several related media, including video games like LEGO Star Wars: The Force Awakens and Star Wars: Battlefront II and animated web series like Star Wars Forces of Destiny.
Rey is introduced in The Force Awakens as a scavenger who was abandoned on the planet Jakku when she was a child. She becomes involved in the Resistance’s conflict with the First Order after finding out she is Force-sensitive. After training to be a Jedi under both Luke Skywalker and Leia Organa, she successfully defeats Palpatine and the First Order in The Rise of Skywalker and sets out to rebuild the Jedi Order, adopting the name Rey Skywalker.
Will Daisy Ridley Play Rey Again?
While the sequel trilogy actors were initially vocal about their disinterest in returning to the franchise shortly after the release of The Rise of Skywalker, they have since backtracked those statements. Oscar Isaac, who plays Poe Dameron, recently stated that he would be “open to anything.” Ridley has also hinted that she would love to wield a lightsaber again, saying at the 2022 BAFTAs, “I’ll always be Rey.” She also revealed in 2021 that she had recently met with Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy, although the details of that meeting were not disclosed. At this time, Ridley or Rey are not confirmed to appear in any announced Star Wars projects.
Lucasfilm is developing several Star Wars films at the moment, with one by Lost co-creator Damon Lindelof reportedly taking place after the events of The Rise of Skywalker. However, Lindelof’s film will not be the tenth episode in the Skywalker Saga, but instead the first Star Wars project to explore the post-TROS timeline. Although plot details remain nonexistent at this time since Lindelof is still busy co-writing the film’s script with Justin Britt-Gibson, sources have stated that the film may feature characters from the Star Wars sequel trilogy.
The Star Wars sequel trilogy is available to stream on Disney+.
