Pokémon Scarlet and Violet’s Grass starter Sprigatito’s evolutions appeared online along with several other leaks, including for the other two starters in Gen IX.

Users on social media like Reddit began posting images of Sprigatito’s second form, a bi-pedal cat named Floragato. The green and purple cat retains a feline appearance with his body proportions, unlike similar two-legged Pokémon in other generations of the game. It also wields a wand with a star-shaped blossom on the end and a mask-like pattern on its face. Shortly after Floragato appeared, leakers also revealed Sprigatito’s final evolution, Meowscarada.

Fans Theorize About Pokémon Scarlet and Violet’s Starters

Fans have speculated on the final evolutions for the three starters since Nintendo announced Pokémon Scarlet and Violet earlier in 2022. One of the earliest for Sprigatito claimed it would become bi-pedal and “humanoid/waifu-like.” This news disappointed many fans, who wanted to see the grass cat remain on four feet. Several of the franchise’s recent animal-inspired Pokémon have received criticism for evolving into something too humanoid or Digimon-like, such as Sun and Moon’s Fire-type starter Litten into Incineroar.

A leak in June revealed a supposed Sprigatito evolution leak which gained a lot of support from fans. It matched previous reports of the bi-pedal nature of the evolution and gave it a mask, hat and cape reminiscent of Zorro. Interestingly, these elements do appear similar to that of Meowscarada. As with the fake leak, Meowscarada has a mask and cape, though these appear because it is classified as the Magician Pokémon rather than the fictional Spanish vigilante. The middle evolution, Floragato, also holds a wand like a sword. This drew multiple comparisons from fans to Puss in Boots.

Sprigatito’s fellow starters experienced similar leaks today. Fuecoco’s evolutionary line appeared online over the course of two days, with its middle stage, Crocalor, cropping up first. Its third stage, Skeledirge, leaked along with nearly a dozen other Pokémon today. Quaxly’s line also got spoiled, though unlike Sprigatito and Fuecoco’s, its other stages only appeared as sprites. These two, called Quaxwell and Quaquaval, garnered comparisons to Gen III’s Blaziken for their bi-pedal nature and fighter stance. Despite Quaxly and Sprigatito appearing as early favorites upon the game’s announcement, online reactions to the leaks indicate some now prefer Fuecoco due to its final form.

Pokémon Scarlet and Violet will be released on the Nintendo Switch on Nov. 18.
