Fortnite has collaborated with My Hero Academia to bring in the anime’s protagonist.
As reported by Crunchyroll, Izuku “Deku” Midoriya is Detroit Smashing his way into the battle royale game’s Chapter 4 Season 1. On Dec. 4, Epic Games released a trailer for the recent season on its official YouTube channel. The launch trailer gave viewers a first look at everything new coming or already in Fortnite, including an island codenamed Asteria and more playable skins. At the end of the one-minute video, Deku uses one of his signature moves, Delaware Smash Air Force.
Alongside Deku, the Chapter 4 trailer also showcased two other playable skins — The Witcher’s Geralt of Rivia and Doom’s Doom Slayer. The Doom Slayer skin can be purchased on the battle pass, while Geralt and his School of the Wolf set can only be obtained partway through the season. This is because it is a bonus skin on the season’s battle pass. Each set will also include personalized back blings, pickaxes and other exclusive in-game features.
Fortnite Has Pop Culture’s Biggest Figures
In addition to the My Hero Academia protagonist, Fortnite will also release a skin for YouTuber Mr. Beast and Milwaukee Bucks player Giannis Antetokounmpo. The battle royale game previously collaborated with streamers like Ninja and AliA, in addition to NBA star LeBron James and Japanese tennis player Naomi Osaka.
Other than My Hero Academia, Fortnite has also debuted crossovers with popular anime franchises like Dragon Ball and Naruto. The free-to-play title’s first collaboration with Naruto introduced Naruto, Sasuke and Sakura to the battle. In June 2022, Fornite confirmed Hinata Hyuga, Gaara and Itachi Uchiha would join the game. Sasuke’s older brother has two in-game costumes: his Anbu black-ops uniform and the Akatsuki robe. The content update also allowed players to explore Naruto-themed areas like the Final Valley — where Naruto and Sasuke fought in their iconic duel.
In July 2014, My Hero Academia began serialization in Weekly Shōnen Jump. Since MHA’s inception, the manga has become one of the best-selling series of all time, with over 65 million copies in circulation. Two years after the manga began serialization, Bones adapted the manga into an anime television series. The franchise follows Izuku Midoriya, who dreams of becoming a Hero despite lacking a Quirk. A powerful hero named All Might chooses Izuku as his successor, granting him the “One for All” quirk.
Fortnite is free to play on most home consoles and mobile devices. The release date for Fortnite’s My Hero Academia skins is unknown.
