Doctor Who star David Tennant trolled his son, fellow actor Ty Tennant, during a fan event for HBO’s House of the Dragon.

A photo shared on Twitter by Georgia Tennant, David’s wife and Ty’s mother, showed the Doctor Who actor visiting his son during the London Film and Comic-Con. In the photo, David is standing next to Ty holding a sign that reads, “He’s not that special.” In April of this year, Peter Davison, who portrayed the fifth Doctor on Doctor Who, held a sign with the same message next to David during Wales Comic Con. Davison is Georgia Tennant’s father and Ty’s grandfather. Ty Tennant portrays young Aegon II Targaryen on HBO’s House of the Dragon.

Following its series premiere, House of the Dragon has already been renewed for a second season by HBO. Based on the novel Fire & Blood written by George RR Martin, House of the Dragon is set 200 years before the events of the original HBO series Game of Thrones and follows the rise and fall of House Targaryen.

While House of the Dragon has been renewed for Season 2, HBO and HBO Max chief content officer Casey Bloys hinted that the next installment will arrive much later than anticipated and likely won’t release until 2024. “We’re just starting to put the plan together [for Season 2], and just like last time, there are so many unknowns,” Bloys said. “It’s not to be coy or secretive, but you don’t want to say it’s going to be ready on this date, and then you have to move it.”

David Tennant is a prominent actor on stage and screen but rose to fame for his role as the tenth iteration of the Doctor on the BBC’s long-running sci-fi series Doctor Who. Tennant portrayed the role between 2005 and 2010, before reprising it in 2022 as the fourteenth Doctor. It was revealed in May that Tennant and Catherine Tate would return to Doctor Who for the franchise’s 60th anniversary, both reprising their respective roles as the Doctor and fan-favorite companion Donna Noble in 2023.

It was initially reported that Sex Education star Ncuti Gatwa would take over as The Doctor from Jodie Whittaker, who has held the role since 2018. However, it remained unclear how or in what capacity Gatwa would appear until the Thirteenth Doctor regenerated in her final special, “The Power of the Doctor.” When Whittaker’s Doctor regenerated in her final special, it was Tennant who appeared as the Fourteenth iteration of the character. Showrunner Russel T. Davies later confirmed that Gatwa would be the Fifteenth Doctor after all.

Doctor Who will be available to stream on Disney+ in late 2023, with new episodes of the series premiering on the BBC that same year. All episodes of House of the Dragon are available to stream on HBO Max. Season 2 does not yet have a release date.
