Highlights
- Xavier’s absence in Wednesday season 2 will be explained by him transferring to another boarding school.
- Wednesday and Enid’s friendship will be a focus, providing a dynamic balance amidst the other storylines.
- Fans will appreciate the lack of romantic plotlines in season 2, focusing more on Wednesday’s dark humor and detective skills.
Percy Hynes White, who played Wednesday’s love interest Xavier Thorpe in season 1 of the Netflix series Wednesday, isn’t coming back to reprise his role because of allegations against him. Although Wednesday season 2 should answer significant questions that were left up in the air in the cliffhanger ending, the next episodes also need to explain where Xavier has been. While the focus will be on Jenna Ortega’s character along with her peers at Nevermore, it wouldn’t make sense to not explain where Xavier went since this is a burning question that fans have.
While sometimes actors who won’t be on a TV series any longer return for an episode or two to complete their character’s story, Wednesday season 2 will have to address why Xavier isn’t a student at the unforgettable boarding school Nevermore anymore. There is one logical way that this can happen.
Wednesday Season 2 Can Deal With Xavier Thorpe’s Absence This Way
When Wednesday season 2 comes back to Netflix in 2025, the TV series should briefly explain that Xavier moved away and transferred to another boarding school. While this might not be the most exciting explanation, it would be logical, which is important for a TV series that has some magical and supernatural elements. It’s also a good idea for this explanation to be short since the other Wednesday season 2 storylines should be the focus. While it could be possible for Xavier to stop going to boarding school altogether and move back home with his family, he and his father don’t have a great relationship.
Learning that Xavier Thorpe has moved away would be impactful since it would continue to prove that Nevermore is a dangerous and risky place to be. Wednesday could make a joke about Xavier leaving because he’s scared of the creepy Hyde monster. Xavier might also feel that Nevermore is a bad place to be, even though he thought he would be okay because his psychic abilities are embraced. As Wednesday found out in season 1, students go to Nevermore because they’re different from others, but that doesn’t mean they are completely safe there.
Wednesday season 2 can also easily deal with Xavier being gone by leaning into Wednesday and Enid’s (Emma Myers) friendship more. Some might say that Wednesday shouldn’t make friends because she’s prickly and tough and fans wonder if Wednesday is a witch. But it’s compelling watching her dynamic with her warm, sunny, and friendly roommate. Wednesday Season 2 definitely need more scenes of these two characters together because they balance each other out. Wednesday was intrigued by Xavier’s artistic personality, but it would more interesting if she and Enid get to know each other better.
While Xavier is no longer in Wednesday season 2 because of something that happened behind the scenes, it makes sense that this character isn’t included in the upcoming episodes since Wednesday fans objected to the love triangle between Xavier, Wednesday, and Tyler Galpin (Hunter Doohan). Instead of having Wednesday choose between these two suitors, it would be smarter if Jenna Ortega’s character investigated the season 2 mystery with Enid. This would give Enid a more active part in the story, which is necessary given her popularity.
Why Wednesday Season 2 Should Have No Romance
Xavier Thorpe’s exit from Wednesday season 2 works for the story because when fans discuss the next season, they don’t want any romantic plotlines. When reflecting on what they know about Wednesday Addams from pop culture, fans could argue that she doesn’t need to fall in love or contemplate which partner she should pick. Season 1 finds Wednesday in a tricky spot as she tries to find the creature terrorizing everyone while figuring out what happened to her parents when they attended Nevermore. Her romantic storyline is a distraction from the main plot.
Wednesday season 2 shouldn’t introduce a new love interest for Wednesday or continue the budding relationship between Wednesday and Tyler. Now that she knows the truth about him, that wouldn’t make sense (or it would need a long explanation).
What New Actors Were Cast In Wednesday Season 2?
- Joonas Suotamo
- Heather Matarazzo
- Steve Buscemi
- Joanna Lumley
- Thandiwe Newton
- Frances O’Connor
- Billie Piper
- Noah Taylor
- Owen Painter
- Evie Templeton
- Christopher Llyod
Wednesday season 2 should give fans what they loved from season 1. That includes Wednesday’s humorous and dark dialogue, seeing Wednesday become a detective, andfeaturing a few twists, like learning the truth about Marilyn Thornhill’s (Christina Ricci) identity. Wednesday is one of Jenna Ortega’s best TV roles because she’s so comfortable with who she is and doesn’t care about what other people say. She should have that attitude in season 2 as well.
Xavier’s absence won’t be felt that much since the series has a large cast of characters and since fans were uncertain that Xavier and Wednesday’s romantic tension made sense. If Wednesday season 2 can be as smart, funny, and surprising as season 1, the Netflix series will continue to be must-watch entertainment.
