Tsukimichi: Moonlit Fantasy Episode 11 — A Dark Turn

“Tsukimichi: Moonlit Fantasy Episode 11” is out! It surprisingly took a very dark turn. The last episode left us with the mystery of Tomoe’s injury and the violent explosion. Makoto, our usual happy-go-lucky hero, becomes angry when he discovers who hurt his companions. It’s no other than the selfish humans.

Dark Makoto Doesn’t Joke Around

The episode starts out with Makoto and the lich running towards the explosion while Mio looks after the injured Tomoe. The casualties are pretty severe so the lich uses some impressive long-range healing. Makoto also taps into his new ability — he sees the woman’s memories and discovers their selfish crimes. Our isekai hero loses himself in anger and takes his revenge by killing the woman in cold blood. Wait, WHAT!?

Tsukimichi: Moonlit Fantasy Episode 11

It’s a difficult scene to process. First off, I’m heartbroken by the loss. Second, the story got dark real quick! It’s like a whole different genre. Lastly, it’s hard to imagine what Makoto feels at this moment. The isekai world is changing him, and it’s scary. I think we can all agree though that it was absolutely badass. Even the animation and visuals were wonderfully terrifying.

The last time we saw Makoto this serious was back in episode 2 when he fought Mio as a spider. This one, however, is much scarier. Makoto’s expression is chilling and his brutality and mercilessness take me by surprise. It was a truly satisfying and awesome moment, but the more I think about it, I can’t help but feel… lost by it.

The Weight and Responsibility of a Leader

I assume that this is Makoto’s turning point where he realizes his naivety and goes through bittersweet character development. He realizes that his actions have consequences and now he’ll grow from his mistakes as a better leader. Don’t get me wrong, it was an awesome moment when he did what he did. The woman was too annoying and proud!

However, as compared to Rimuru’s grieving and revenge process in “That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime”, I admit that this one feels odd. Maybe it’s the quick storytelling? The series has been fast since the beginning so I guess it’s all good anyway!

The rest of “Tsukimichi: Moonlit Fantasy” episode 11 shifts back to its usual bright tone. After the funerals, we discover that because of their trust, Makoto is able to harness Tomoe’s ability to see memories. This makes Mio adorably jealous! (Her frames are my favorite.) Makoto also decides to separate the illusion city from their town to protect the citizens. Finally, we also get some closure for the orc’s death — something I appreciate a lot. I also hope we get to see the fragment again someday.

The Way Forward

Moving forward, Makoto travels to the neutral town of Rotsguard Academy to set up shop and to continue his isekai journey. With him is the lich, now named Shiki. This makes Tomoe and Mio jealous (again) but Makoto comforts them with their favorite nerdy shows! It’s pretty cute.

Jealous Mio

Unlike the usual cliffhangers, this episode serves an intense one. Right before Makoto and Shiki teleport, the Goddess finds them and yeets Makoto to a suspicious battlefield. There, two strong-looking people attack him! Fortunately, they miss by a hairline — or so we think. The last frame we see is Makoto’s horrified expression as he sees his chopped fingers…

Interesting Eerie Developments

This is a very intense episode! I’m so excited about the story developments but also sad that the next episode will be the season finale. We’re finally uncovering a dark side of Makoto’s character — from happy-go-lucky to a cold, scary, and emotionless person. Hopefully, we will be able to see Makoto’s new abilities and maybe he can also give the Goddess and her henchmen a good smacking? Whatever it will be, I hope for a satisfying end for this season!

While others may find “Tsukimichi: Moonlit Fantasy” episode 11– or the whole series for that matter– “cringey”, I honestly will say that it’s pretty good! Sure the plot may be all over the place, but it still serves both comedy and action-packed awesomeness. The writing is quirky and despite it being wacky at times, this episode proves that it has a realistic sense too.

I personally love all the characters and this unique story. Plus, the voice actors — Hanae Natsuki (Makoto), Sakura Ayane (Tomoe), and Kitou Akari (Mio)– have been a really fun bunch! Sometimes I think about how silly it is that the unlucky Makoto shares the same voice as the mysterious Vanitas.

Shiki

On another note, Shiki is a very interesting character! His interaction — which is mostly Tomoe and Mio roasting him — definitely adds a new dynamic to the gang. Plus the fact that I instantly realized that it’s Kenjiro Tsuda! It’s frustrating that there’s only one episode left, but nevertheless, I’m excited to see what will happen next!
