Tokyo Revengers: The 5 Best Arcs In The Manga, Ranked

The Tokyo Revengers timeline isn’t plain or even linear by any means. Whenever time travel is involved, it’s natural (and almost unavoidable) for timelines can become messy or disorganized. Luckily for Tokyo Revengers fans, the series is conveniently divided into eight distinct arcs (with the final arc being separated into two sub-arcs).

While the Tokyo Manji Gang (often called “Toman”) is the main gang that the audience follows throughout the series, protagonist Takemichi encounters a handful of other gangs that all have their own involvement in Hina’s grim future. Each new gang is assigned its very own arc, giving each cast of characters their own time in the spotlight. Here are the best arcs of the Tokyo Revengers series, ranked.

  • First Chapter:
    78
  • Final Chapter:
    121

The Black Dragons arc was the primary focus of season 2 of the animated series. The Christmas Showdown arc put Takemichi and fellow Toman member, Mitsuya, up against the monstrous and tyrannical leader of the Black Dragons, Taiju Shiba.

Hakkai’s family and their troubled past are explored as Takemichi and friends are doomed to help sort out the Shiba household’s messy drama before any more casualties happen in the grim future Kisaki is planning. This arc also introduces key characters for future arcs aside from the Shiba family; namely Seishu Inupi and Hajime Kokonoi, Taiju’s iconic “cat and dog duo.”

4 Valhalla Arc

  • First Chapter:
    34
  • Final Chapter:
    77

The Valhalla arc is one of the earliest arcs of the Tokyo Revengers series and served as the kicking-off point for main antagonist, Kisaki Tetta. Right after Takemichi discovers his time-traveling abilities and finds his bearings, he sets off to rescue former Toman member, Baji, from the darkness of Valhalla.

While Takemichi first assumes that Baji had crossed over to betray his friends, he later discovers that Baji only pretended to side with Valhalla in order to expose the evil Kisaki’s true intentions. The Bloody Halloween arc is where Kazutora takes Baji’s life and causes the very first major casualty on Takemichi’s journey through the Tokyo Revengers timeline.

3 Tenjiku Arc

  • First Chapter:
    122
  • Final Chapter:
    188

Mikey’s family and past trauma are explored for the first time in the Tenjiku arc. It is then that Mikey meets Tenjiku’s leader, Izana, who claims to be his half-brother.

After a life of feeling abandoned, Izana finally feels loved and accepted when Mikey’s older brother, Shinichiro decides to visit him after Izana and Emma are separated during their childhood. Shinichiro’s involvement and overall impact finally begin to unravel; making it clear that Shinichiro wasn’t merely a side character in Mikey’s past, but an integral part of the series.

Inupi and Koko’s backstories also begin to unfold as they finally part ways from one another for the first time in years due to Mucho and Sanzu’s interference. The arc ends with a bloody and tragic face-off against Toman and Tenjiku where Izana is shot to death, leaving everyone’s lives changed forever.

2 Kanto Manji Arc

  • First Chapter:
    236
  • Final Chapter:
    278

The Kanto Manji arc takes place immediately after the intense Battle of The Three Deities in the previous chapters. Things begin to look more and more dire for Takemichi, as at this point, all of his plans have failed, leaving Mikey in the darkest place he had been in his life of loss and pain.

With Toman long gone, Brahman’s defeat, Mikey leading the Kanto Manji Gang that had absorbed the remnants of Rokuhara Tandai after the fight, it is in this arc that Takemichi takes matters into his own hands and begins his own gang to rival Mikey’s.

This arc reveals one of the biggest twists in the series: Mikey’s ability to time travel alongside Takemichi. It is Takemichi’s desperation and Mikey’s broken soul hitting rock bottom that triggers this event, leading to the resolution of the entire series.

1 Bonten Arc

  • First Chapter:
    189
  • Final Chapter:
    206

Had Takemichi not forced himself to go the extra mile, the series could have simply ended here. The beginning of the Bonten arc opens with Emma’s funeral and the disbandment of Toman. However, while most of Takemichi’s friends were finally safe and sound in the new present day, Mikey was the only one who still turned to a life of sin and crime. Unable to go back in time due to Naoto’s satisfaction with the current timeline (in which Hina is saved), Takemichi once again finds himself at a loss.

The Bonten arc is when Mikey’s curse of “dark impulsivity” is finally revealed in full; the vicious side of Mikey that was born of Shinichiro’s sins in the past. The “dark impulse” that Mikey now harbored was given to him after Shinichiro committed murder to gain the ability to time travel to save Mikey from a vegetative state. The Bonten arc unveils the root of the series and also shows the horrible lengths Mikey’s “dark impulse” was doomed to grow into had Takemichi never intervened.

Bonus: Letter From Keisuke Baji & Extended Ending

  • Spin-off Manga

Despite only being present for a few chapters/episodes, Baji Keisuke was a fan favorite; so much so that he was even given his own spin-off that stars him and his best friend, Chifuyu. The Letter From Keisuke Baji series is a prequel to Takemichi’s tiring journey and is currently not animated.

Aside from the Tokyo Revengers spin-off is the upcoming extended ending. A new chapter is in the works, scheduled for November 2023. The new chapter features the loose ends in the last chapters that were left to readers’ imaginations and is to debut in Roppongi’s Mori Tower for the Tokyo Revengers Exhibition.
