Blackmail photos and memories as clear as day in evidence but not in his mind, Homelander was driven to the brink of insanity through frequent blackouts where he would indulge in foul and evil behavior like eating babies and mutilating bodies. This essentially gaslit Homelander into thinking he was a villain, and so he decided to take an army of supes to the White House and kill the President. Yet, Homelander was brutally killed in a fistfight with Black Noir, who had been sent as a contingency to stop Homelander if he ever went rogue from Vought.

Black Noir ended up being the main villain of The Boys, as the entire villainous routine of Homelander was perpetrated by Black Noir. Black Noir reveals himself as a clone of Homelander, created by Vought as a contingency plan for if Homelander went rogue or evil. Black Noir was created for the sole purpose of killing Homelander, so he orchestrated it, putting a plan in motion to finally fulfill the sole purpose for which he was born. After a fight with the military and Homelander, Black Noir was weak enough for Butcher to pry his skull open with a crowbar and squish his brain.
