The Boys: 6 Characters Who Deserved Better

Highlights

  • Soldier Boy betrayed and sedated, Becca Butcher tragically killed by her son, Doppelganger forced into servitude and killed by Homelander.
  • Robin’s life cut short by A-Train, Blindspot’s potential ruined by Homelander, Love Sausage reduced to a one-time joke.
  • Characters’ fates range from betrayal and tragic accidents to forced servitude, highlighting the cruel nature of the show’s world.

The Boys is filled with some truly diabolical acts, in which shock value comes before the safety and respect of some characters. As such, there have been plenty of times when a character has been seriously harmed or even killed, and audiences are left to think that this particular character deserved better, not the fate that awaited them.

With The Boys in production for its fifth and final season, audiences can look back at some of the characters who have suffered along the way to see which of them deserved a better fate than the one that they eventually received.

6 Soldier Boy

Betrayed By His Allies After Agreeing To Kill Homelander

  • Portrayed by: Jensen Ackles

By no means is Soldier Boy a hero, but he was the most interesting character of Season 3, and one who despite everything, did the right thing. Soldier Boy agreed to help Butcher kill Homelander, even when he discovered that he was his father. The level of commitment and honor Soldier Boy showed made him a great character, and one that was betrayed for doing what was agreed of him.

Soldier Boy is now heavily sedated in a lab, perhaps put on ice indefinitely. Soldier Boy may have done some truly diabolical things before he was betrayed by his team Payback, but his fate as an immortal placed into a forever coma isn’t a great way to end up.

5 Becca Butcher

Assaulted By Homelander And Accidentally Killed By Her Son

  • Portrayed by: Shantel VanSanten

Becca most certainly deserved better than what she got. She lost her husband and had to fake her death so that she could raise the son of her rapist because the man responsible was Homelander himself. Despite this tragedy, Becca loved her son Ryan and raised him to be a good man. Yet, it came at the cost of a sheltered life, where she was unable to leave her home.

Becca couldn’t possibly bring Ryan into a world that would be against him, and she had to trap herself to save her son and protect him. Yet, even in such a sheltered life with so much sacrifice, she was still killed, in an accident by her own son in an attempt to save her.

4 Doppelganger

Forced Into Servitude Of Homelander Until He Killed Them

  • Portrayed by: Dan Darin-Zanco

Whilst doppelganger is by no means a good person, they are still someone who didn’t deserve the fate they ended up with. Doppelganger used their powers for Vought’s gain, providing necessary leverage and blackmail to cease politicians. Doppelganger was then kidnapped by Homelander and forced to do whatever he demanded, all in an attempt to not have their neck snapped by him.

Doppelganger was essentially a slave to Homelander’s cruel and perverse games, where he would force Doppelganger to shapeshift into Madelyn Stillwell, and even himself. Doppelganger would perform sexual acts on Homelander just to stay alive.

3 Robin Ward

Her Life Was Cut Short By A-Train Running Through Her

  • Portrayed by: Jess Salgueiro

If there is any character that deserves better, it’s Robin. Her screen time was so limited, and her life was cut short by a supe that couldn’t care less for what he had just done. Robin was the girlfriend of Hughie Campbell, and she was disintegrated into a red mist when A-Train accidentally ran through her at high speed.

Robin was the catalyst for Hughie joining Butcher’s crusade against supes, and she’s a young woman who never got to live the life she deserved because a supe had entitlement and no care for human lives. Whilst A-Train may truly be sorry for Robin’s fate, it doesn’t change the fact that she wasn’t even a body to bury, just a pair of cold hands.

2 Blindspot

Homelander Deafened Him, Taking Away His Heightened Senses

  • Portrayed by: Chris Mark

When the Seven were having tryouts for their newest member, Blindspot happily jumped at the opportunity, providing acrobatics and a heightened sense of hearing to prove that blindness would not stop him. Blindspot seemed like a genuinely good person, but Homelander left him permanently deaf when he slammed his open palms onto his ears and then used ableist terms to mock his latest victim.

Blindspot could have genuinely been a good hero and a great role model for the Seven, but instead, he had his future robbed of him by the person he looked up to the most. Blindspot might not be dead, but he’s been robbed of his powers, left without Vought’s support, as well as without his hearing and sight.

1 Love Sausage

An Ally Of The Boys Turned Into A One-Time Joke

  • Portrayed by: Derek Johns

Love Sausage had an interesting first encounter with the Boys, in which he tried to strangle Marvin Milk with his elastic-like phallus. When Love Sausage was next seen, he was engaging in the infamous supes party called Herogasm, in which they enact all their desires and debauchery. With a friendly face and a big heart, Love Sausage was an unfortunate victim of Soldier Boy’s radiation blast.

Love Sausage may still be alive, but he has lost his powers, and his appendage has been burnt to a crisp. Considering how fun Love Sausage is in the comics, it’s a shame to see his character reduced to a one-time joke.
