Technically, The Super Mario Bros. Movie has been streaming on Peacock since August, giving the smash (bros.) hit video game adaptation plenty of time to build on its already massively successful theatrical run. But now, the Super Mario Bros. Movie looking into a second home at Netflix, much like retired couples flocking down to Florida for the winter. For people looking to enjoy something light-hearted and color-saturated with their loved ones during their preferred holidays, this is coming at the right time. Even better, it’s bringing some friends.

Deadline reports that The Super Mario Bros. Movie will officially hit Netflix on December 3rd. This gives folks celebrating Christmas, Chanukah, Kwanzaa, Yule, and even the underdog hero Festivus a chance to come together for a formal viewing of the movie where Jack Black sings a love song as a dragon turtle. Unfortunately, National Pie Day on December 1st will miss the window. The world can be cruel sometimes.
Joining The Super Mario Bros. Movie will be a slew of other family-friendly films between November and December on Netflix. For one, December will see the release of the charming stop-motion series Pokémon Concierge, though no specific date has been announced. The other releases include Brandy’s Best. Christmas. Ever! on November 16th, the animated film Leo from Adam Sandler on November 21st, The Bad Guys: A Very Bad Holiday and the Jennifer Garner/Ed Helms body swap comedy Family Switch on November 30th, and finally the long-anticipated sequel Chicken Run: Dawn of the Nugget on December 15th.
The Super Mario Bros. Brothers Mario (Chris Pratt) and Luigi (Charlie Day) are everyman plumbers in the city who find themselves plunged into the alternate world of the Mushroom Kingdom. There, they become separated, leading Mario to muster his courage and rescue his brother from Black’s imposing yet lovestruck Bowser. But he can only do this with the help of the Kingdom’s colorful characters, including Princess Peach (Anya Taylor-Joy), Toad (Keegan-Michael Key), Donkey Kong (Seth Rogen), and more.
Families, friends, and other such gatherings will likely relish the opportunity to enjoy this romp through Nintendo’s unsubtle yet surprisingly comfy world on the streaming platform of their choice. It’s always nice to have something available to watch from multiple sources because it simply means more people get to enjoy it. That’s never a bad thing.
