Stranger Things Season 5 Owes Will A Happy Ending

Highlights

  • Will Byers deserves more storylines in Stranger Things season 5, with a potential happy ending.
  • Will may need to find his own identity away from friends, possibly attending college or connecting with new people.
  • A stronger bond with his brother Jonathan could help Will find confidence and move forward.

While there’s a plot hole about Will Byers (Noah Schnapp) from season 1, he’s still one of the best characters on Netflix‘s Stranger Things. He gets caught in the Upside Down and lives to tell the horrifying tale and is an important part of his friend group. He and Eleven (Millie Bobby Brown) have a special bond which gets even stronger in Stranger Things season 4 and allows them both to grow up more and find more confidence.

But even though Will is a great character, he hasn’t gotten many storylines on Stranger Things beyond his time in the Upside Down. Will deserves more in Stranger Things season 5, including a happy conclusion to his arc. When fans can finally watch Stranger Things season 5 when it comes to Netflix in 2025, there’s hope that there will be at least a few plotlines about Will and what he’s up to now.

How Can Wednesday Season 2 Give Will Byers A Satisfying End To His Character Arc?

If the end of Will Byers’s Stranger Things storyline is going to feel complete, Will might need to find his own identity away from his friends. While it would be sad to watch him leave them behind, Will has felt a bit ignored and abandoned by his friends ever since he returns to Hawkins, Indiana after spending time in the Upside Down, which is an important part of Will’s timeline. He feels that they’ve moved on from childhood faster than he has, and he wishes they could all play games and have fun the way they used to. While of course no one blames the other characters for growing up and Stranger Things is a coming-of-age story, there has been a growing distance between them for a while.

If Will moves on from his friends, that might mean Will goes away to college or finds some new people who he connects with. This all depends on how huge the Stranger Things season 5 time jump is. If it’s several years, then Will and his friends will already be past high school, which would allow him to make a natural transition away from them.

Will separating from his friend group would also provide the opportunity for more scenes between Will and his older brother Jonathan (Charlie Heaton), which would help Will find more confidence. There is a moving scene between the siblings that is as great as the Stranger Things season 4 finale when Jonathan tells Will how much he cares about him. If Will has an even stronger bond with his older brother, that will help him go out into the world.

While it would be sad to see Will no longer spending much time with his friends, this is a somber but often realistic part of growing up, so it would make sense. It’s also hard to imagine that he would want to stay in Hawkins since he was stuck in the Upside Down. Will’s happy ending might only be possible if he lives somewhere else and can put this terrifying part of his past behind him. Whether Stranger Things season 5 is in two parts or just one, there should be more than a few scenes that show that Will is at peace and happy. As long as it’s clear that he still cares about his friends and sees them sometimes, this would feel like the right path for his character.

What Did Noah Schnapp Say About Will’s Storyline In Stranger Things 5?

Since Noah Schnapp talked about Stranger Things season 5 a little bit in an interview with Forbes, fans have been waiting to see if the actor has said anything else. Schnapp shared in an interview with E! News:

“We all know by now that Vecna and Will have history. So it would be a joy to to get back in there as I’ll gently put it.”

While he was careful not to spoil anything, it seems clear that Vecna (Jamie Campbell Bower) and Will will have a fight scene or some kind of connection in Stranger Things season 5. Will could have visions of Vecna or other monsters in the Upside Down and he could use this information to lead his friends in the final battle. Since Vecna’s Stranger Things season 5 story remains unclear, beyond him fighting the main characters, this sounds intruiging.

Since Noah Schnapp alluded to Will and Vecna’s “history,” it’s also possible this could mean that Will has known Vecna for a long time. Perhaps he met the villain when he was younger and suppressed the memory since it was so dark and scary. There’s no doubt that Stranger Things season 5 is going to be wild.
