As the highly anticipated premiere of Star Wars: The Acolyte draws near, fans are eagerly anticipating fresh plot insights. The show’s creator has recently revealed how a character drew inspiration from a two-decade-old Star Wars game.

With just a few days left until the premiere of the much-anticipated Star Wars TV series, The Acolyte, there is still plenty to uncover about the show. While the creators have acknowledged drawing inspiration from previous Star Wars projects, the latest revelation from the showrunner reveals that one character was directly influenced by a beloved classic Star Wars game.

In an interview with Den of Geek, The Acolyte showrunner Leslye Headland revealed that she drew inspiration from an old Star Wars game. As a devoted Star Wars fan, Headland expressed her deep admiration for the franchise’s video games, particularly highlighting Knights of the Old Republic. She specifically cited the 2004 video game Knights of the Old Republic II: The Sith Lords, pointing to the character Darth Traya as the primary influence behind the series’ main Sith antagonist.

As of now, the identity and details surrounding the Sith character in The Acolyte remain largely undisclosed. While fans speculate that the Sith depicted in the trailer might be this character, concrete information is elusive. Leslye Headland shed some light on the inspiration behind this enigmatic figure, citing Darth Traya from the video game as a significant influence. “Darth Traya really stuck out to me as an inspiration,” Headland explained. In the game, Darth Traya, also known as Kreia, was once a Jedi who turned to the dark side. Her narrative alignment with The Acolyte‘s premise, exploring the complexities beyond the Sith-Jedi dichotomy, offers intriguing parallels. After enduring betrayals from both the Jedi and the Sith, Darth Traya relinquished her Sith title, carving a path independent of conventional allegiances. This complex character arc mirrors the thematic depth anticipated in the upcoming series’ portrayal of its Sith antagonist.

The Acolyte promises a refreshing addition to the Star Wars universe by shining a spotlight on the Sith for the first time. With its blend of references from both Star Wars canon and Legends. Given that KOTOR belongs to the latter category, pinpointing specific references in the show remains a challenge. Headland has openly discussed her mix of nerves and excitement about the project, particularly regarding its focus on a period predating the prequel trilogy. Her dual objectives — to honor established canon while introducing never-before-seen characters — underscore the delicate balance she aims to strike. With much left to uncover, fans are eagerly anticipating The Acolyte‘s highly anticipated premiere.

The first two episodes of Star Wars: The Acolyte will premiere on June 4, exclusively on Disney Plus.
