Rey’s quote is one of wonder and bewilderment as she ventures through the stars with Han Solo, discovering the vast array of green on the planet Takodana.

Somehow, Emperor Palpatine returned, and with him, came all the Sith. This is a power he proudly boasts when he attempts to use Force Lightning on Rey at the climax of the Skywalker Saga’s last entry. When Palpatine proclaims that he is all the Sith, Rey raises two blue lightsabers to protect herself from the power of his lightning, and rebuttals that she is “all the Jedi”.
What makes this moment powerful is how opposite the Sith are to the Jedi. Whereas the Sith seek to usurp power from each other and kill each other, the Jedi will lend their power to those who need it, and Rey truly is assisted by heroes of old, like Mace Windu, Yoda, Luke Skywalker, Anakin Skywalker, Obi-Wan Kenobi, and many more.

Star Wars: Episode 9 – The Rise of Skywalker
The relationship between Kylo Ren and Rey is complex. Starting at the first Sequel Trilogy movie, their meeting was less than charismatic and ended in a clash of lightsabers. Throughout The Last Jedi, the two seemed to be developing a bond, and an adoration for each other, which quickly ended when Kylo Ren killed Snoke and declared himself the Supreme Leader. Rey refused to join him on this dark crusade against the galaxy, and they had another near-fatal meeting in The Rise of Skywalker.
On the ruins of the Second Darth Star, Rey plunges her lightsaber into Kylo Ren but uses a new Force Heal ability to save his life. Here, she romantically confesses to him that she wanted to take his hand that day on board Snoke’s ship, but as Ben Solo, the son of Han and Leia, not as a Sith, Kylo Ren.

There is perhaps no name in Star Wars that brings chills upon a mention quite like Darth Vader. The Sith Lord is a tragic one, with a legacy soaked in the blood of friends, innocents, and Jedi. By the time of The Force Awakens, Darth Vader is long dead, but his name still evokes fear in the hearts of many, even if Luke Skywalker redeemed his father Anakin, and brought him back to the light.
When Rey infiltrates Kylo Ren’s mind, she sees within him a grand fear, that he will never be as strong as Darth Vader, his grandfather. To bring up Vader like this is one that will make anyone pay attention, as the mention of Vader is not one to be taken lightly due to his misdeeds around the galaxy.

Star Wars: Episode 8 – The Last Jedi
When Luke is experiencing an immense sense of self-doubt, Rey tries to tell him of all the good he has done in the galaxy, and how he redeemed the most irredeemable man in the entire galaxy, Darth Vader. Luke did something the Jedi did not think possible, he brought a Sith back to the Light when they were well past deserving of redemption. Yoda and Obi-Wan did not think it possible, yet Luke accomplished the ultimate feat of a Jedi through forgiveness.
Rey’s recognition of this act is a powerful moment for Luke, but to say that The Last Jedi was controversial for its depiction of Luke and other characters is an understatement. Nevertheless, the understanding of Luke’s journey to redeem his father and grow the conflict to the path of the Light Side is one that deserves mention.
