Thanks to the huge fanbase that has been building since the original’s 1996 release, Scream 7 is one of the most talked about upcoming movies. Fans have questions about Scream 7‘s horror movie analysis and if any actors are going to reprise their roles.
Neve Campbell’s return as Sidney Prescott, one ofthemost popular final girls to ever appear in a horror movie, has been met with excitement and anticipation. This announcement has also led to a lot of questions about what Sidney will do in the slasher sequel. Fans have specific ideas about Sidney’s Scream 7 storylines and hope that these changes will make up her arc in the next movie.
What Sidney Changes Do Fans Hope To See In Scream 7?
Fans have many ideas about what Sidney Prescott’s story could look like in Scream 7. Many feel that Sidney was fairly passive in Scream (2022) and that needs to change in Scream 7. One Redditor opened up a discussion and wrote:
“I want to see her go unhinged on Ghostface like Sam does. And it’d be very believeable if she did given that she’d be protecting her children.”
This seems like a possibility given Sidney’s history with the slasher franchise. As arguably the best final girl in any horror movie, Sidney has been terrorized by Ghostface for decades. It’s unrealistic to see her in a completely content place. While she does have a family with Patrick Dempsey’s character Mark Kincaid and she has grown up a lot since her first appearance as a teenager, Sidney can’t ignore the fact that the various Ghostface killers have taken away a lot of her chances at peace and happiness. It would make a lot of sense for Sidney to get revenge in Scream 7. It must be something she has been thinking about for a long time.
Redditor @BrianTheReckless suggested that Sidney play a more active role in uncovering Ghostface, which would be a change from the last movie. It can definitely be argued that in Scream 4 and Scream (2022), Sidney is part of a team who tries to figure out who Ghostface is rather than doing most of the work herself. The fan wrote:
“I want to see her figure out who Ghostface is before they reveal themselves.”
Other Scream fans think Sidney could find out who one Ghostface is, which would show how smart she is but also leave room for a reveal of one or two more Ghostface killers at the end of Scream 7. Redditor @Lipe18090 agrees that Sidney needs to chase Ghostface instead of the other way around. They wrote, “I want her to kill the Ghostface in the opening scene and then begin her investigation on the reason and possible cooperators. Maybe she believes that there are more than the one she killed, but everybody else think she’s being paranoid. I want her to ACTUALLY do some digging instead of trying to escape.” Whether there is a cult who worships Ghostface in Scream 7 or not, Sidney should definitely make some big discoveries.
Another fan would love for Sidney to have the same character development in Scream 7 that she did in Scream. They wrote:
“personal moments with Sid (strong moments, vulnerable moments, etc). Let’s make this an actual character-driven movie like the first film, where she’s the LEAD, not just part of an ensemble.”
It’s true that when comparing the six movies that have been part of the Scream franchise so far, Sidney displays a lot more emotion in Scream. She grieves her mother Maureen Prescott’s death, realizes her boyfriend Billy Loomis (Skeet Ulrich) has betrayed her by actually trying to kill her, and sees her town of Woodsboro, California falling apart. Since Sidney isn’t in Scream 6, fans want to see her fight Ghostface but they also wish that she would have a more meaty storyline.
What Does Sidney Do In Scream (2022)?
Before Neve Campbell said no to starring in Scream 6, she came back for Scream (2022). It’s possible to say Sidney doesn’t have as compelling a character arc as fans hoped for. While she does return to Woodsboro to find Ghostface along with Gale Weathers (Courteney Cox), fans don’t hear much about where Sidney has been or what she’s been doing.
When Dewey Riley (David Arquette) phones Sidney at the beginning of Scream (2022), she’s pushing a stroller, but nothing more about her family is revealed. It would have been nice to include a bit more background on what she had experienced in the years since leaving home. Whether Scream 7 is the last movie in the horror franchise or not, hopefully Sidney will go after Ghostface but also have an emotional arc. Then fans will truly be satisfied by the upcoming sequel.
