After watching Scream (2022) and Scream 6, horror fans could tell there was still a lot of life left in the slasher franchise, and everyone is curious about Scream 7. Fans love to analyze every moment of the franchise, from the best phone call in any Scream movie to what the next batch of kills could look like. While Scream 6 was perhaps the bloodiest movie yet and Ghostface used a shotgun in many shocking scenes, Scream 7 needs to be even gorier, and the kill scenes need to be different. While fans aren’t interested in a Scream 7 time jump, they do want Ghostface to be scarier than ever and Sidney Prescott (Neve Campbell) ready to get them.
Although every movie in the Scream franchise features gory scenes of Ghostface finding a new victim, Scream 7 could be the goriest movie yet, and Scream 7 needs to feature more unique kills. Since the franchise began in 1996, fans have been discussing the gory scenes in every film, and they expect the stakes to be raised.
Scream 7 Can Follow Thanksgiving’s Gory Tone
Scream 7 can find inspiration in Thanksgiving, Eli Roth’s 2023 slasher movie, when it comes to opening and other kills. Thanksgiving has a solid ending, a great fall vibe, and most of all, creative kills that stand out. From the opening scene when Amanda Collins (Gina Gershon) gets killed by a shopping cart pulling on her hair, the horrifying action doesn’t stop.
While there is no doubt that Thanksgiving is more violent than any Scream movie, Scream 7 needs to have kills that are as shocking and unexpected as those in Thanksgiving. Eli Roth’s horror movie was a huge success with critics and audiences and, according to Box Office Mojo, grossed $46,553,280 worldwide. There’s no doubt that horror fans have become more picky and discerning over the years and are tired of lackluster and expected kills that do nothing to surprise fans or move the story forward.
Scream 7 can be inspired by Thanksgiving in two ways: by the unforgettable opening kill scene and the ending, which pays off what had been building. Fans have theories about Scream 7‘s opening kills, and this scene has to feature a kill that hasn’t been seen before. It also needs an interesting minor character who has some proper backstory before Ghostface gets to them. Amanda’s death in Thanksgiving is effective and powerful because, in a short period of time, audiences realize her family life is dramatic and that this loss will cause ripple effects. The Black Friday setting also works so well since it’s scary and chaotic.
Some Shocking Scream 6 Kills
- Anika Kayoko (Devyn Nekoda)
- Dr. Christopher Stone (Henry Czerny)
- Brooks (Thomas Cadrot)
- Greg (Thom Newell)
- Jason Carvey (Tony Revolori)
- Laura Crane (Samara Weaving)
While Scream 7 might not put people’s body parts on a platter like Thanksgiving does near its conclusion, the final scene when Sidney and the others learn who Ghostface is should still be gory. While the ending of Scream 6 reveals the trio of killers and their motives, the final confrontation in the old movie theater isn’t as action-packed or unique as it could be. Scream 7’s ending needs to take place in an unexpected location and if Sidney can brutally hurt Ghostface, fans will feel they got what they wanted.
Scream 7 needs to have more creative kills than Scream 6. While Greg is killed in a gory way, audiences don’t witness it. When Sam Carpenter (Melissa Barrera) kills Quinn Bailey (Liana Liberato), for instance, she shoots her. This isn’t a kill that stands out. When Kirby Reed (Hayden Panettiere) kills Ethan Landy/Kirsch (Jack Champion), she hits him in the head with a TV, which is a nod to Sidney electrocuting Stu Macher (Matthew Lillard) back in Scream. Both of these scenes could be more powerful.
What Are Some Of The Memorable Kills In The Scream Franchise?
While there are many kill scenes in Scream 6 and there’s no denying this movie is incredibly gory, fans can never forget the two big deaths in Scream: Casey Becker (Drew Barrymore) and Tatum Riley (Casey Becker). Ghostface calls Casey, they flirt and chat about horror movies, and then Casey’s parents find her hanging from a tree in a brutal and disturbing scene.
This death is so effective because it proves to everyone in Woodsboro that whoever this killer is, they are dangerous and ruthless, and anyone could end up like Casey. Scream 7 needs to up the ante, choose another seemingly innocent character, and deliver an even more surprising scene.
Tatum’s Scream death in the garage door of Randy Meeks’s (Jamie Kennedy) house is one of the most famous in the horror franchise. No one would have expected her to crawl through this tiny space, let alone die there when Ghostface presses the garage door button. Since fans have been watching this franchise since 1996, fans will expect every death in Scream 7 to be on this horrifying level.
