Despite the Blade reboot being announced five years ago, production has seen little to no advancement. A recent rumor suggests there may be additional delays in the film’s development.
When the Blade reboot was announced in 2019, it was met with great enthusiasm. However, with each new update about its prolonged production, fans have grown increasingly disappointed. Now, another obstacle has emerged, raising concerns about whether the premiere will happen anytime soon.
Yet another rumor is circulating online about Blade‘s production. According to John Campea on The John Campea Show, the movie is back to “square one” because “many key players are unhappy with the current iteration of the script.” However, his source did not specify who these key players are. This rumor supports previous claims that the movie is undergoing another round of rewrites. So far, there has been no confirmation from Marvel Studios or anyone involved in the Blade production.
The rumor does not imply that the previous plan for the Blade reboot has been completely scrapped, but it does suggest that script rewrites are underway. While a core plot has been established, the rest of the script is being revised due to dissatisfaction among some “key players.” However, Campea did not specify who these key players are, leading fans to speculate that they could be anyone from the production team to higher-ups at Marvel Studios. He also highlighted the irony and tragedy of the reboot’s situation. Despite the announcement being made five years ago, there has been no significant progress in production, even though Marvel had released numerous other projects at that time. As a fan, Campea speculated that Mahershala Ali might ultimately not play Blade. He believes that within the next two months, an announcement might be made citing scheduling conflicts or similar reasons as an excuse for Ali’s departure. Campea noted that Ali put his career on hold for this role, and given the prolonged production delays, he might decide to leave the project altogether. While the movie would still eventually be made, it could be without Ali in the titular role.
He also speculates that the main issue lies in integrating Blade into the existing MCU narrative. With 15 years of MCU history, it is challenging to introduce the supernatural elements that Blade embodies. Questions arise about how to explain the existence of vampires and the undead within this universe. Where have they been all this time? How have they gone unnoticed? Establishing how a half-human, half-vampire vampire hunter fits into the MCU’s established world is proving to be a significant hurdle.
Despite the prolonged production and another round of rewrites, Marvel Studios still plans to begin filming later this year and is targeting a November 2025 release for the Blade reboot, according to previous rumors. The film was initially scheduled to premiere in November 2023 but was postponed by a year. Complications from Hollywood labor strikes further delayed it to early 2025, and it was later shifted to November 2025. However, many remain skeptical, believing that the premiere date will be pushed back once again.
Blade is expected to be released on November 7, 2025.
