Reacher burst onto television screens in 2022, with a stunning first season on Amazon Prime, and it was quickly renewed for a second season, which will come out on Friday 15th December on Amazon Prime. The first three episodes will drop in one go on Friday, with an episode a week thereafter leading to a season finale on January 19. The series is based on Lee Child’s eponymous hero, Jack Reacher in the hit series of novels. He’s an ex-military investigator who now investigates numerous cases outside the constraints of the military. Reacher has already been renewed for a third season ahead of the season 2 premiere.

The first season of Reacher was based on Child’s debut novel, Killing Floor, and it saw Jack Reacher visiting the rural town of Margrave, Georgia. He finds himself arrested for murder, and after he is freed, he teams up with police officers, Roscoe Conklin and Oscar Finlay to investigate a conspiracy involving corrupt police officers, businessmen, and politicians. Fans of the books were delighted with the first season as it stayed true to Lee Child’s vision for the character, as opposed to the movies starring Tom Cruise.

The first season featured a really strong ensemble cast with Alan Ritchson taking on the role of Jack Reacher alongside Malcolm Goodwin as Oscar Finlay and Willa Fitzgerald as Roscoe Conklin. However, the beauty of the character of Jack Reacher is his penchant for moving on once the case he is working on has been solved. Therefore, he is joined by a new cast of characters for his next case in Season 2. This is a shame in many ways, because the supporting cast were so good in Season 1. However, it keeps things fresh and the opportunity for new characters to come along to bring out a different side to Reacher’s character, along with new revelations about his past. So, the only confirmed returning character in season 2 will be Jack Reacher.

The series aims to stay loyal to the books they are based on, and this includes the switching up of characters with each novel. However, this doesn’t mean there won’t ever be some returning characters in future seasons, but their appearance will have to be justified by the story. Another hit Amazon crime series based on books is Bosch and Bosch: Legacy, and despite every season being based on various books in the series, there has been some deviation from the source material in order to follow its own story. This may happen in Reacher as well as the show progresses. Alternatively, just like the Bosch universe, they may introduce spin-offs if certain characters become fan favorites.

What book will Season 2 be based on, and who is joining the cast?

Season 2 will be based on Lee Child’s 11th novel in the Jack Reacher series, called Bad Luck and Trouble. The story sees Jack Reacher team up with fellow former members of the 110th MP Special Investigations Unit after he receives a coded message informing him that one of the members of the unit has been brutally murdered in very strange circumstances. Reacher’s team consists of Frances Neagley, Karla Dixon and David O’Donnell, and they begin to connect the pieces together to solve the murder and the conspiracy that lies behind it.

Maria Sten, Serinda Swan, and Shaun Sipos play Reacher’s old comrades and Robert Patrick also joins the cast as Shane Langston, who is the shady head of security for a private defense contractor. The new season will also feature guest stars including Domenick Lombardozzi (Tulsa King) as Detective Guy Russo, Shannon Kook (The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It) as Tony Swan, Luke Bilyk (A Teacher) as Calvin Franz, Ty Olsson (Thanksgiving) as Saropian, Edsson Morales (Nobody) as Manuel Orozco, Andrés Collantes (A Million Little Things) as Jorge Sanchez, Josh Blacker (Elysium) as Hortense Fields, and Al Sapienza (The Sopranos) as Marsh.

Things are shaping up for this season to be bigger and better than its predecessor, with the trailer revealing an even more bulked up Alan Ritchson as the titular protagonist. This Amazon series excels the most when it involves brutal action scenes, and Ritchson is in top shape to deliver in season 2. The end of the actor’s strike perfectly lined up with the start of promotion for the new season, with Alan Ritchson giving fans of the show some humorous advice on how to watch the new season on Amazon Prime, sharing his thoughts on his Instagram page.

Dec 15. Do something to get fired the day before so you can stay home and binge the first three eps. Then ask for your job back and threaten to use some sweet reacher headbutt if they won’t give it to you. They will be scared so you’ll get it back. Then start laying the groundwork to get fired again in a week so you can stay home and watch episode 4. You’ll learn new fight moves by then so you’ll have fresh scare tactics to get your job back until the next episode airs. Season 2 will be worth the trouble, trust me.

Reacher Season 2 premieres with the first three episodes on Amazon Prime on December 15.
