- Fan speculation is high regarding the identities and powers of Blast’s team members, with theories suggesting they may be characters from different universes in the series.
When the One Punch Man manga finally introduced the number 1 ranked S-Class hero, Blast, into the story, fans were very excited to finally put a face to one of the most enigmatic figures in the universe. However, when his story was fleshed out further, it was revealed why the hero was always so elusive and why he never really concerned himself too much about the threats that the rest of the heroes had to face.
It was shown that Blast had once fought against Elder Centipede and almost killed him, though, in the fight, he came face to face with God. Since then, Blast has been on a larger mission during the story of One Punch Man than the one that the rest of the heroes are undertaking. While his lack of involvement against the Monster Association almost led to the annihilation of the heroes, his team’s mission against God is arguably much more important as the villain poses a threat to reality. So, let’s take a look at what is known about Blast’s team.
About The Team
Almost nothing has been told about Blast’s team that has joined him in his fight against God. All the information that fans have are the few images and lines of dialogue that have been shown in the manga, leading fans to confer and theorize by themselves as to what the origins of Blast’s team are. All that is known right now is the number of characters within the team, which is currently standing at 9 members.
Ever since the first showing of the team in the manga, fan speculation has gone through the roof about who they are and how they are helping Blast, as well as how powerful they might be. Initially, the only thing that was known was that the reason Blast had been so absent from Earth despite the rise in monster attacks was that he was scouring the entire universe for God Cubes.
These are a collection of heavy and dense cubes that allow the person holding them to communicate with God in his dimension in exchange for them getting monsterized and gaining a lot more strength in order to spread destruction and free him. Due to this, Blast has spent most of the past 20 years searching for these cubes and keeping them away from the masses.
Team Members
In his quest to keep the influence of God at bay, Blast has come across various other powerful people to help in this goal. In Chapters 173 and 195, it was revealed that Blast once had a partner who went by the name of Empty Void who also helped in this goal of collecting the cubes and was presumably also part of this team. However, Empty Void was corrupted by God and fought against Blast but lost and was put into a coma for 15 years.
However, other than Blast and Empty Void, fans have not gotten any of the names for the other characters, even though the faces of some of the team members have been shown. The first of these characters was seen to be some sort of Elf, as can be seen with her pointy ears and fair complexion, though it is just as likely that she is simply of an alien race. She was seen using a crystal ball and talking about the plate tectonics of Earth, showing how smart and knowledgeable she was.
After her, the readers’ attention could be drawn to another member who is a muscular, very tall, anthropomorphic lion man who may just be the heavy hitter of the group. Most curiously, however, is the third member of the group, a member who seems to be of the same species as the legendary fan-favorite villain, Lord Boros.
Since Boros was arguably the second-strongest villain seen so far in the entire show, it is logical to assume that this member of Blast’s team has a very similar potential and power set, if not the same. Even if his strength is lowballed, this character could still solo most of the S-Class without much difficulty as Lord Boros was shown to be the only character that was able to surprise Saitama.
A popular fan theory states that the members of Blast’s team are characters that have already been shown in the series but from different universes where they are good guys, making connections with how that member might just be Boros or how the Lion Man could be a different version of Beast King that Saitama killed in season 1. Whatever the case may be, fans can’t wait for any new updates regarding Blast’s team against God.
One Punch Man can be streamed on Amazon Prime, and Netflix.
