One Punch Man: 6 Characters Who Need More Screen Time

Highlights

  • One Punch Man features unique characters with diverse personalities and ambitions, offering a refreshing experience for battle shounen fans.
  • Side characters like King, Mumen Rider, and Genos have strong chemistry with the protagonist, Saitama, and deserve more screen time in future seasons.
  • Characters like Sonic and Blast have great potential and should be given more opportunities to showcase their abilities and rivalries in upcoming seasons.

One Punch Man offers a refreshing experience for battle shōnen fans. Instead of a young character who goes on a journey to make friends and become powerful, One Punch Man has an older man as the lead character who dislikes socializing and is already the strongest individual on the planet and possibly in the entire series.

Aside from the protagonist, several other side characters in the series are unique in their own ways. They have different ambitions and personalities, which distinguishes them from one another. In the two seasons released so far, many characters have not received enough time in the spotlight. But with a new season on its way, there is a possibility that things might change.

6 King

Affiliation: Hero Association

King is the S-Class rank 5 hero, which makes him one of the strongest beings in the world, at least on paper. However, the reality is that he is a weakling who cannot defend himself even from the smallest monsters. King managed to make a name for himself by being in the right place at the right time. Whenever Saitama defeated an opponent, King was near the scene, which made the onlookers believe that it was the latter’s doing.

Despite King being weak, he is actually an underrated character. His chemistry with Saitama is top-notch, and the two get along really well. Besides their shared fondness for video games, King is arguably the only person who understands Saitama. He offers realistic advice, which is invaluable for airheads like Saitama. Hopefully, King gets more screen time in the future.

5 Mumen Rider

Affiliation: Hero Association

Mumen Rider is not the strongest hero, nor does he have good looks, but he does have the spirit necessary to become a hero. He has made several appearances in the story, demonstrating his passion to become a virtuous hero. Mumen Rider does not have any fancy abilities that can protect him from the threat of monsters, but he refuses to stay behind and watch people die.

Mumen Rider is humble, and he seems to get along rather well with the other heroes, including Saitama. If he does get more time in the future arcs, then chances are that fans might finally get to learn about his background and why he is so dedicated to his job.

4 Genos

Affiliation: Hero Association, Saitama Group

Genos was introduced very early in the series, and he immediately drew a lot of attention with his cool character design. After witnessing Saitama’s power, the cyborg insisted on becoming his pupil, a request that bothered the bald hero. But, Genos was persistent and didn’t stop until Saitama finally caved in.

Genos has been with Saitama ever since and the two have slowly gotten along. Even though Saitama and Genos don’t have a proper master and student relationship, they care about each other. In fact, they would put themselves in harm’s way to ensure that no harm comes to the other person. It would be exciting to see Genos receive new powers and beat opponents by himself.

3 Sonic

Affiliation: None

images/news/2024/6/29/one-punch-man-characters-need-more-screen-time_4.jpg

Sonic is a talented ninja who considers himself Saitama’s rival. This feud is one-sided, as Saitama doesn’t treat Sonic as a threat, much to the latter’s annoyance. Sonic has shown glimpses of what he can do in combat, and so far, he has looked promising. Even the members of the Monster Association tried to recruit him, as they believed he would make a fine addition.

Sonic needs to be involved more frequently in the upcoming seasons; otherwise, he risks fading into oblivion. Not only does he have the potential to become a great combatant, he can also become Saitama’s ally and strengthen his group. Even if he decides against it, Sonic can enjoy a rivalry with the bald hero. It would be a good idea just to let him have more screen time and give him better powers to help him compete with the most powerful opponents.

2 Blast

Affiliation: Hero Association

images/news/2024/6/29/one-punch-man-characters-need-more-screen-time_5.jpg

Blast is the strongest hero in the world, so logically, he should be the person with the most screen time in One Punch Man, but it is the complete opposite. Blast is more or less an enigma. Fans have not seen him in action, which is why there is no information about his possible powers or his personality.

With the stakes escalating with every passing season, it is only a matter of time before Blast joins the fray and demonstrates what he is capable of doing. The biggest question that Blast’s appearance will solve is whether he can beat Saitama or not.

1 Fubuki

Affiliation: Hero Association, Blizzard Group

images/news/2024/6/29/one-punch-man-characters-need-more-screen-time_6.jpg

Fubuki is Tatsumaki’s younger sister and a B-class hero. A huge gulf separates the two sisters in terms of overall strength. Tatsumaki is the second-strongest hero within the organization, while Fubuki is stuck in B-class. However, Fubuki is great at leading people, as evidenced by her ability to hold the Blizzard Group together.

While Fubuki is nowhere near the strongest character in One Punch Man, she brings a lot to the table. She is brave in dangerous situations and willing to risk her life for the sake of others. Fubuki is more grounded than her sister, which makes her a fan favorite. Hopefully, Fubuki will be able to score more screen time in the upcoming seasons.
