Some Terrible Decisions made By Zoro

In One Piece, some characters have made terrible decisions that have either endangered their lives or the lives of those around them, and the formidable swordsman of the Straw Hat Pirates, Roronoa Zoro, is no exception to this flaw. In pursuing his ambitions and protecting his friends, Zoro has sometimes found himself making choices that had unintended consequences or posed significant risks.

From defying authority to underestimating opponents, these moments highlight some of the worst decisions made by Zoro, reminding fans that even the most skilled individuals can make terrible mistakes that can change the course of events in the One Piece series.

Zoro’s ambition and desire to become the world’s greatest swordsman led him to accept Dracule Mihawk’s challenge in the Baratie arc. By accepting Mihawk’s challenge, Zoro displayed his resolve to face formidable opponents, grow stronger, and become the strongest swordsman. Although Mihawk ultimately defeated him, the encounter was a crucial stepping stone in Zoro’s character development. It emphasized the vast gap in skill that he needed to bridge in his journey to become stronger.

While the decision to face the warlord seems strategic and a move to test his abilities and gauge the level of strength he needed to achieve, it was a rash decision that landed him in a perilous battle that scarred him because he was ill-prepared at the time and almost lost his life.

4 Departing On His Own At Sabaody Archipelago

Episode 391

Zoro’s propensity for getting lost plays a big part in ensuring the swordsman isn’t left to wander alone. His poor sense of direction will only prolong his return time and delay his reunion with the crew. Zoro’s directional challenges led him to unintended detours that consumed more time than anticipated. During his wandering, he asked if a celestial dragon wanted direction.

Even though Zoro is strong, his poor sense of direction will always hinder the crew’s ability to coordinate and support each other in a dangerous and chaotic environment. By leaving on his own at Sabaody Archipelago, he might have caused an early Buster Call on himself and the crew at Sabaody.

3 Zoro Not Bowing To Saint Charlos

Episode 393

Openly defying a Celestial Dragon could have attracted the attention and ire of the World Nobles and their powerful backers. The World Nobles hold immense influence and can call upon the might of the World Government, including the Marines, to retaliate against those who oppose them.

Zoro’s carefree attitude and cockiness to not observe his surrounding as the other people around the bow to the might of the Celestial Dragon put not only himself but also his crewmates in danger. This defiance could have escalated the situation even though he didn’t know what it meant to be a Celestial Dragon. Knowing Zoro, he still wouldn’t have to bow down to Saint Charlos if not for the swift intervention of Bonney.

2 Not Killing Monet At Punk Hazard

Episode 687

Zoro has always shown a strong sense of honor, he values fair fights and believes in allowing opponents to go all the way in a fight. In Punk Hazard, Zoro fought against Monet but believed she was too weak to face him, so Zoro decided not to kill her but instead neutralized her threat and moved forward. Zoro’s mercy for this enemy could have endangered his whole crew as Monet’s survival made her rage on to bomb the Punk Hazard’s lab.

However, a case of a mistaken ‘heart identity’ made Caesar Clown stab the heart of Monet, thinking it belonged to Smoker. Without this little window of opportunity, Monet would have burnt the whole crew to a crisp because of Zoro’s mercy.

Episode 892

Wano country has been in turmoil for over a decade, and the Straw Hat pirates hope to liberate the country from the hands of the enemy with the help of their ally. In this way, a stealth mode from all parties was necessary to prevent unwanted attention from enemies. However, Zoro wreaked havoc in the country, potentially jeopardizing the crew’s mission in Wano. This little tussle led to increased surveillance and hindered their ability to operate covertly.

Yasui died to keep the fire of rebellion alive because Orochi almost discovered the presence of their revolt. In other words, the chaos caused by Zoro is one of the few things that made the mission more challenging and to be carried out covertly.
