One Piece: 7 Tallest Characters, Ranked

The over-the-top aesthetics of One Piece’s world mean that author Eiichiro Oda can get pretty creative when it comes to character designs, which is something he’s certainly taken advantage of. As a result, no two characters in the world of One Piece look even remotely similar, with everyone having their own quirky characteristics and recognizable appearances which help them stand out from the crowd.

An easy way to emphasize a character and their larger-than-life place in the world is by making them as tall as possible. Though this can often be used as an indication of one’s power, in the case of One Piece, the Straw Hats have run into all kinds of tall individuals, whether they be merciless villains, or kind-hearted heroes. Here’s a full breakdown of the tallest characters who have ever made an appearance throughout the story of One Piece.

7 Hatcha

Height: 219′ 2″

Hatcha is a giant humanoid who is known as being a member of the Numbers; a group of artificially produced giants who were bought by Kaido to help fend off anyone who threatened his rule of Wano. There’s not too much known about most of the Numbers, but one who does get quite a bit of screentime, and some official information regarding his height, is Hatcha, who seems to love nothing more than getting drunk and causing as much chaos as possible.

His gigantic spiked club perfectly suits Hatcha’s enormous size, allowing him to wreak havoc with no more than a few simple swings. Hatcha became an annoying thorn in the Straw Hats’ side during his few brief appearances in the Wano Arc, but after one well-timed lazer attack from Yamato, the artifical giant finally fell to the floor and stopped his mindless rampage.

6 Oars

Height: 219′ 10″

Considering Oars is often touted as being a “tall giant”, it should give a good idea of just how massive this guy actually is. Though Oars died long before the beginning of One Piece’s story, at some point in the past, Gecko Moria and his devious crew got their hands on the giant’s body which they intended to revive using their Devil Fruits. As a result, he became the final obstacle for the Straw Hats to overcome before they could leave Thriller Bark, and it’s fair to say, Oars pushed each of them to their absolute limits.

The crew had to band together and use their attacks in unison to stand a chance of even knocking Oars over, let alone defeating him for good. After enough determination, and a little help from Luffy’s Nightmare form, Oars was down for the count, but not before putting up one hell of a fight. It’s funny to think that if Oars were to somehow turn up again this far into the story, he would still pose a serious threat to anyone he encounters thanks to his enormous size.

5 Wadatsumi

Height: 262′ 5″

Oda tends to get very creative when creating the designs for the Fish-Men that Luffy and the gang encounter throughout the series. Whether it’s the fashionably evil Arlong or the gentle giant Jinbei, there have been some iconic Fish-Men character designs over the years, but when it comes to sheer size, none have even come close to rivaling Wadatsumi. Fans might remember him as the giant who got into a tussle with a kraken after trying to get his hands on the Thousand Sunny ship.

The fact Wadatsumi was able to go toe to toe with a kraken already sums up his stature, but a better indication is during the Whole Cake Island arc where he takes numerous Big Mom’s ship to help the Straw Hats escape. Even compared to the Yonko’s large vessels, Wadatsumi manages to tower over Big Mom’s forces, making him a truly dangerous member of the Sun Pirates crew.

4 Smiley

Height: 492′

During his time at Punk Hazard, Caesar Clown was free to conduct all kinds of weird and wacky experiments, one of which involved compressing as much H2S gas as possible to create a giant being which would become his pet. This resulted in the creation of Smiley, a large and horrifying blob-like creature who posed quite a serious threat to the Straw Hats once it was let off its leash.

Needless to say, if Smiley catches up to its victim and absorbs them into its body of goo, it will immediately kill them, so the Straw Hats had no option but to run away as fast as possible when they saw it moving towards them from a distance. Smiley is even able to fire off parts of its own body to catch its prey off guard. In fact, it was pure luck that the Straw Hats even got away from Smiley since the whole reason he was defeated was due to one giant-sized candy which was, conveniently, lying around just waiting to be eaten.

3 Sanjuan Wolf

Height: 590′ 6″

Little is known about Sanjuan Wolf, but one thing’s clear; getting on the wrong side of him would be a huge mistake if his size is anything to go by. Wolf was one of the Impel Down prisoners that Blackbeard rescued and integrated into his crew, and eventually was promoted to one of the Ten Titanic Captains who uses his enormous size to crush his enemies. It’s revealed not long after he’s set free that Wolf was serving a life sentence in the Level 6 section of Impel Down before his escape.

Wolf’s enormous size comes from his Devil Fruit, the Deka Deka No Mi, which allows him to become a literal giant of giants, dwarfing almost every character in the series as a result. Aside from the obvious power advantage, this fruit gives Sanjuan Wolf the unusual benefit of being able to traverse the ocean without immediately dying, despite being a Devil Fruit user. However, he has admitted doing so causes him to exhaust his stamina quite quickly.

2 Laboon

Height: 1312′ 4″

The Straw Hats run into the giant lovable whale known as Laboon almost as soon as they enter the Grand Line. What is immediately recognizable about Laboon is his size, being so large, he makes most of the Sea Kings look like tadpoles in comparison. Sadly though, the front of Laboon’s face became completely covered in scars after he continuously attempted to break through the Reverse Mountain to see his crew who bid him farewell when he was still young.

Though they promised to see him again after their two to three-year escapade, fifty years went by without Laboon or his carer Crocus hearing a thing. This seemed to imply that they had left their old friend behind, but as revealed during Thriller Bark, the pirate crew Laboon grew close to had all died due to being poisoned, with Brook being the only survivor. As a result, Brook dreams of one day reuniting with his longtime friend, who is by far one of the biggest sea creatures ever seen in the series.

1 Zunesha

Height 114,840′

images/news/2024/4/6/one-piece-tallest-characters_7.jpg

The gigantic elephant known as Zunesha is without a doubt the biggest character ever seen in all of One Piece, to the point where the animal’s stature is big enough to have an entire country resting on its back. Though it is unknown why Zunesha is forced to carry Zau, what is known is that the animal once had a close relationship with Joy Boy several hundred years ago. As a result, Zunesha has been alive for an incredibly long time and has seemingly been wandering the ocean for much of his life, though the reason for this is also unclear.

Despite being depicted as a gentle giant, Zunesha isn’t afraid to use its enormous body to protect the citizens of Zou when the situation calls for it. This is shown when the elephant was able to completely annihilate Jack’s fleet with a single swing of its trunk, but in order to act this way, Zunesha requires guidance from someone who is able to communicate with it, which barely anyone is able to do. Zunesha is a character shrouded in mystery, but one thing is for sure; it’s highly unlikely there’s any being in all of One Piece that will ever be able to compare to him when it comes to sheer size.
