One Piece chapter 1096 gave fans their first look into the majestic God Valley Incident that took place in the West Blue, 38 years ago. This incident was absolutely massive and saw the greatest of all pirates arrive on the island known as God Valley to fight there. The Marines, led by Garp, were also present on this island, as were some members of the World Government, such as Saint Garling Figarland and Saint Saturn.

The God Valley Incident was a war of massive proportions, however, this isn’t the only war that the Rocks Pirates and the Roger Pirates have fought. In fact, in One Piece after 1096, it was made quite clear that Roger and Rocks actually fought a year prior to that battle at some place in the One Piece world.

The God Valley Incident

The God Valley Incident was incredibly massive and, as the name suggests, it took place on the island of God Valley. There, the Celestial Dragons were responsible for committing an atrocious crime, called the Native Hunting Games. From what the fans are told, the Celestial Dragons conduct these games every 3 years and with that, an island unaffiliated with the World Government would be chosen as the battleground. Their population would then be completely cleansed and the entire thing would then be turned into a game. The hunted population would have points assigned to them and whoever would kill the most would be declared as the winner and gain appropriate rewards.

38 years ago, this competition was held in God Valley and information about it leaked to the outside world, thanks to one of the slaves, Ginny. This led the Rocks Pirates to come to God Valley as well and, knowing that the Rocks Pirates would be there, the Roger Pirates followed as well, as did some other major pirate crews. Knowing that Roger would be on the island, Garp then went to God Valley as well, leading a Navy unit of his own. Further, the island already had some powerful Celestial Dragons, such as Saint Garling Figarland and, at the same time, Saint Saturn as well. These major forces collided on God Valley and this incident was etched in history as a cataclysmic event, the aftereffects of which were so great that the Government decided to erase God Valley in its entirety.

Rocks Pirates Vs Roger Pirates 1 Year Before God Valley

While the God Valley Incident was the focus of One Piece chapter 1096, there are some interesting bits of information that give fans an idea about what was happening prior to this event. One particular instance that only a handful of fans would have noticed is the fact that when Roger arrives in God Valley, he mentioned that he has been feeling awful for an entire year since “that” happened. What exactly he means by that is not clear in the manga, however, given the context of the situation, it’s quite easy to put two and two together and come to the conclusion that Roger had fought against Rocks one year prior to this incident.

Coincidentally, this would also be the year that Roger reached Lodestar Island, completing the entire journey in both Paradise as well as the New World. What fans do know is that towards the end of his journey, Roger Pirates came head to head with the Rocks Pirates and they collided somewhere in the Grand Line. This collision was of massive proportions and, by the looks of it, it appears to have been an all-out war.

Furthermore, fans have confirmation that Roger was the one who fought against Captain Rocks. This was given to the fans by Gaban, who mentioned that Roger claimed the pirate captain for himself the last time. This time around, however, Gaban wanted a piece of Rocks too and, thus, prevented Roger from claiming Rocks as his own enemy like the last time.

Kaido’s Defeat To Roger

Roger is certainly not the only one who implies that one year prior to the God Valley Incident, these pirate crews fought. Kaido is another one of the pirates who suggested that these two forces met at some point in the Grand Line before God Valley as well. Kaido seems to be carrying quite a lot of resentment and he wants to be the one to defeat Roger. In fact, he wants to beat Roger desperately and the way he speaks makes it seem like Roger defeated Kaido when these two Pirate crews fought previously. Of course, Kaido was still an apprentice on the Rocks Pirates ship and it should not have been expected of him to defeat Roger at all.

It is quite clear to see that Kaido, despite being strong, lost a battle to Roger. This could have been very similar to how Roger dealt with Oden when he saw him for the very first time. During that fight, Roger truly ended up fighting against Whitebeard while Oden was swept aside. Similarly, in the battle that took place one year before the God Valley Incident, Kaido most likely was brushed aside by Roger, and the real battle was fought between Roger and Rocks.

Roger’s Defeat To Rocks

The result of the battle that took place one year ago isn’t exactly clear. However, fans can assume that Roger ended up losing to Rocks simply because fans were told that Roger had been feeling awful for one year. While this isn’t necessarily a confirmation and fans can never be sure if he truly lost this battle or not, the fact that he needed a team up with Garp later on to bring down Rocks would suggest that the latter would have been the stronger one of the two when they fought previously and, thus, emerged as the victor. This battle was likely won by the Rocks Pirates, however, there is enough to suggest that a true victor of this battle was not declared, even if Rocks was the superior power.

This comes directly from Gloriosa, who, on God Valley, suggested that day is the day they would settle the score for good. It seems that both sides were carrying grudges against each other, which means some fights were won by the members of the Roger Pirates, while some others were won by the members of the Rocks Pirates. However, when it comes to the fight between Roger and Rocks, it is highly likely that Rocks was the one who ended up winning. This would also then explain why Rocks was the greatest enemy that Roger ever had. Their rivalry seems to run deep and, hopefully, Oda will explore that in the future of One Piece at some point. For now, fans have only received a tease about this incredible fight and it won’t be long before more information is given to the fans about this major battle as well.
