6 Inspired By A Real Pirate
Based On Anne Bonny
It is a well-known fact that Eiichiro Oda has taken inspiration from real-life individuals for several of his characters. Jewelry Bonney falls in this category. She is based on Anne Bonny, an Irish pirate who operated in the Caribbean. She was a famous pirate, but very little is known about her life.
Like Anne, Jewelry Bonney was not originally a pirate but became one later. Many fans have presumed that Jewelry Bonney took up pirating after Kuma was turned into a mindless cyborg, but it has yet to be confirmed. For now, this aspect of Bonney’s life remains unknown. Although it will possibly be revealed before the conclusion of the Egghead arc.
5 Her Devil Fruit
Age Altering Power Makes It Valuable
Jewelry Bonney showed off her Devil Fruit powers in the Sabaody Archipelago arc, where she used them to turn the Marines into young kids and old men. It was clear that Bonney’s Devil Fruit allowed her to manipulate people’s ages. The aging qualities of the Toshi Toshi no Mi can also affect non-living things, which can prove helpful in tricky situations. Bonney can also tap into alternate futures and buff herself. This particular ability helped her in the Egghead arc, where she had to fight dangerous enemies.
The name of Bonney’s Devil Fruit also remained a mystery for the majority of the series. It was recently revealed in SBS 107, in which Oda confirmed that it is called the Toshi Toshi no Mi and belongs to the Paramecia class. Given its nature, there is a strong chance that Bonney might awaken it in the future.
4 Only Female Among The Worst Generation
Member Of An Illustrious Group
Jewelry Bonney made her debut in the Sabaody Archipelago arc. She came to the island with her crew as they planned to enter the New World. Aside from Bonney, there were other notable pirates who had made their way to the island to enter the most dangerous part of the Grand Line.
In total, there were eleven different pirates who stood out from the rest. They were called the Worst Generation, and all of them had bounties above 100 million berries. Out of the entire group, Bonney was the only female. This was a great testament to Bonney’s strength, and it showed how much the World Government feared her.
3 Favorite Hobbies
Bonney Is A Fan of Pizza
Eiichiro Oda answers questions from fans in the SBS, and they are mostly related to characters who are shrouded in mysteries. On many occasions, the author of One Piece has revealed new information about Bonney and her life. For instance, Bonney’s favorite hobbies are eating food and playing Jenga. She shares the eating habit with her late mother and fellow Worst Generation member, Luffy.
Bonney’s birthday falls on September 1, which makes her a Virgo. Her favorite food is Margherita Pizza, while her least favorite is carrots. According to Oda, if One Piece was set in the real world, Bonney would be Australian. Oda also said that out of all the flowers, Bonney resembles Freesia the most. Also, if she were not a pirate, Bonney would be a pizza shop owner, which makes sense given her fondness for it.
2 Youngest Pirate
The Youngest Buccaneer
Jewelry Bonney’s age has been one of the biggest mysteries in One Piece. Her Toshi Toshi no Mi made it extremely difficult to figure out whether she was a child or an adult. This lingering question was answered in the Egghead arc, and it was confirmed that Bonney was born 12 years prior to the current timeline. This makes her the youngest known pirate in One Piece.
Before this reveal, many characters, including Vegapunk, had called her a child. Bonney also has the tendency to be reckless at times and get overwhelmed by her emotions, which is understandable as she is so young. Given her age, it is incredible that she has managed to survive for so long in such a horrific and unforgiving world.
1 A Princess and A Celestial Dragon
Hailing From Royalty
Bonney’s mother was kidnapped by a Celestial Dragon who wanted to wed her. Ginny was pregnant with Bonney when she was still the wife of the Celestial Dragon. So, it means that Bonney is a Celestial Dragon, and the identity of her real father remains unknown.
Jewelry Bonney was adopted by Bartholomew Kuma after Ginny’s death. Kuma took care of the baby and raised her the best he could. At some point, Kuma became the king of the Sorbet Kingdom, so naturally, Bonney became a princess. Kuma was overthrown by the people because of his tyrannical nature. It is likely that this bit of information was fabricated by the World Government. However, Kuma probably took the fall to protect the people and his daughter from the malevolent World Government.
