ONE PIECE FILM RED was announced last month, and we now have the first character designs the movie! It’s the next movie of the ONE PIECE franchise, with the release date set for August 6, 2022. With the Straw Hats confirmed to appear in the movie, it can’t be a prequel for Shanks. However, he’s still likely to appear, judging by the first announcement trailer (and the movie’s name). The director for the movie, Goro Taniguchi, also directed the ONE PIECE OVA episode, One Piece: Defeat Him! The Pirate Ganzack!, which was produced by Production I.G for the 1998 Jump Super Anime Tour. It was the very first animation for the series, so he was technically the first person in the world to animate Luffy.
There’s a little over 7 months for ONE PIECE FILM RED, so let’s look forward to seeing Shanks again! Oda confirmed that he will have many scenes in the movie, and teased whether he’d meet Luffy.
