In One Piece chapter 1097, fans finally get to see Dragon make his move. Dragon has rarely appeared in the story and his appearances before the creation of the Revolutionary Army are even more rare. However, as Kuma continues to build his life in the sorbet kingdom, it is revealed the Dragon is making his own moves and starting an organization of his own that he wants to use to take down the Celestial Dragons and reshape the world into an ideal one. Dragon created what is known as Freedom Fighters at the time. It is revealed that the Freedom Fighters were created by the collaboration of Dragon and Ivankov together. These two are the core of the Freedom Fighters, which would later go on to become the Revolutionary Army.

This also means that Ivankov is essentially the right-hand man of Dragon and the person who first joined him on his journey. Eventually, Dragon and Ivankov end up in the Sorbet Kingdom and they end up saving Kuma, Ginny, and the other prisoners. Kuma And Ginny are then made to join the Freedom Fighters and, from there onwards, the organization changes its name and grows into the Revolutionary Army. Kuma becomes one of the main members of this organization while Guinea takes up a very important position as well, being made the commander of the East Army, which is the same position that Belo Betty currently possesses.

One Piece chapter 1097 also reveals a bit of Dragon’s past to the fans. Fans know for a fact the Dragon is an extremely important character in the story, and for that reason, Oda has kept his past obscured until it is time to properly reveal his entire life to the fans. Undoubtedly, a Dragon flashback is going to come fans’s way eventually, however, for now, fans will have to make do with bits that are revealed about him. Kuma’s flashback was surely going to take fans on a journey where big characters such as Dragon were also revealed. This isn’t all that much of a surprise to the fans. A lot of the fans believe the Dragon was going to be a past Marine and the reason why this is predictable is because Dragon is Garp’s own son. Garp wanted Luffy to become a marine to make sure that he doesn’t meet the same fate as many other cruel pirates on the seas. It is likely that Garp wanted Dragon to do the same and he made him join the Marines at a very young age. Dragon likely grew in this organization and reached an admirable level of strength.

Was Dragon An Admiral?

Given that Dragon appears to have been a member of the Navy for quite a significant period of time, one can even assume that Dragon was an Admiral of the Marines. At the very least, he should have been a Vice Admiral, just like his father. All this depends on how long Dragon actually spent in this organization, and sadly, fans do not know that for sure just yet. However, one should assume him to be at least stronger than the average Vice Admirals in the Navy even back when he was a member of this organization.

Given that Dragon is very well known by the likes of Sakazuki, one can assume that they were comrades together in the Navy at one point. In fact, Sakazuki even refers to Luffy as Dragon’s son, which, once again, goes to show that these two characters share a very personal connection and Sakazuki might actually hold some sort of grudge against Dragon. While Sakazuki was an Admiral before the timeskip, nearly 20 years ago, he was still a Vice Admiral in the Navy, as seen when the Ohara Incident happened. By this point, Dragon had already left the Marines and this would then go on to suggest that he too was just a Vice Admiral in the Marines at this point in time. This means Dragon left the organization long before his powers fully peaked and he continued to develop himself as a member of the Freedom Fighters later down the line.

Why Dragon Left The Marines

The reason why Dragon left the Marines is simple. He eventually realized that there was no justice to be found in the Marines. Every single Marine officer has their own sense of justice. For instance, all Admirals have their justices while Garp, who was a Vice Admiral and the most significant part of the Navy, has his own sense of justice as well. Dragon most likely had his own as well and the Marines could not do enough for him to serve his sense of justice. Dragon realized that the Marines were corrupt and that there, he would directly serve the Celestial Dragons in more ways than one. He started to grow disillusioned with this organization and, eventually, decided to leave it behind and start his own.

Dragon decided that he would create an organization that overthrows the World Government and the corrupt Celestial Dragons. He simply wants to create a just world order where the weak and the poor are not stepped upon by the rich and the powerful. Dragon leads one of the most admirable causes in the entirety of One Piece and fans absolutely cannot wait to see more of him as his story develops. For now, fans have only gotten confirmation that he started to grow disillusioned with the Navy and decided to leave this organization. Later down the line, at some point, he came across Ivankov and, together, the two created the Freedom Fighters. With the addition of Kuma, they then became the Revolutionary Army and decided to expand. Fans will now likely see more about the Revolutionary Army and how it came to be in the upcoming chapters of One Piece and that is certainly very exciting, to say the least.

One Piece is available to read via Viz Media. The series can be read by the fans officially and for free on the Shonen Jump and the Manga Plus app. The release date for the next chapter of One Piece, One Piece 1097, is set to be November 5, 2023.
