Highlights
- Caribou, a morally questionable character, knows the location of two ancient weapons, making him a dangerous threat in the wrong hands.
- Caribou acquired this knowledge by overhearing conversations and information from the Straw Hats during his encounters with them.
- There are various theories on who Caribou will share this information with, with possibilities including SWORD, Dragon of the Revolutionary Army, or even the Cross Guild. The knowledge of the ancient weapons could have significant implications for the race to find the One Piece.
When the post time skip Straw Hats returned to Sabaody, One Piece mangaka Eiichiro Oda introduced fans to a large cast of new characters. Many remember the fake Straw Hats as they have gone down in the One Piece community’s history as an inside joke, but that story-line also brought about the introduction of the evil brothers Coribou and Caribou.
Blood-Splatter Coribou hasn’t been seen since he was featured alongside his brother in a Dressrosa Arc cover story, however, Wet-Haired Caribou ended up saving Luffy on Wano and even reached Egghead Island as a stowaway upon the Thousand Sunny. Though he may not appear as the most important character, this morally questionable man now knows the location of two ancient weapons, information which has the potential to be extremely dangerous in the wrong hands.

What Are The Ancient Weapons?
The One Piece Ancient Weapons are three weapons of mass destruction that were presumably under the Ancient Kingdom’s control during the Void Century. Known as Pluton, Poseidon and Uranus, all knowledge of these weapons is strictly prohibited by the World Government, though this hasn’t prevented them from trying to discover their locations for themselves.
In canon One Piece material, two of the three have been revealed. Pluton was first mentioned in the Arabasta Poneglyph and then found on Wano, whilst Poseidon is Princess Shirahoshi’s power to communicate with and influence the Sea Beasts. As of the current chapter, not much is known about Uranus, but a popular theory believes the mother flame’s design may be an imitation of this weapon, implying the original weapon may be something akin to a nuclear bomb.
How Does Caribou Know Where Two Ancient Weapons Are?
In One Piece chapter 605, Caribou tries and fails to attack the Straw Hats, who then proceed to seal him in a barrel aboard the Thousand Sunny. However, the ship crashes into the bubble surrounding the island, and he manages to flee when some unsuspecting mermaids find the barrel and open it. He then proceeds to kidnap these mermaids, a fact the Straw Hats initially get blamed for, and while roaming Ryugu Palace in search for treasure, he just so happens to overhear the truth about Princess Shirahoshi being the Ancient Weapon Poseidon.
Similarly, during the celebrations on Wano after Kaidou’s defeat, Caribou overhears Robin tell the rest of the Strawhats that the Ancient Weapon Pluton is on Wano. Now he is on Egghead and since it is likely the Vegapunks possess knowledge on Uranus due to their discovery of the Ancient Power Source and subsequent creation of the Mother Flame, by the end of the arc Caribou could have knowledge on all three of these weapons of mass destruction.
What Will Caribou Do With This Knowledge?
When Caribou discovered the location of Pluton in One Piece chapter 1053, he instantly stated that he had to tell a “certain someone” about it. Oda is yet to reveal who this someone is, but this hasn’t stopped the community from theorizing as there are many plausible candidates for this role. A popular theory involves it being either SWORD or Dragon of the Revolutionary Army due to both organizations being featured in Caribou’s cover story. However, this is unlikely as though many forget due to it happening in 2012, the first mention of this “certain someone” was actually on Fishman Island.
As there are many elements that may imply a relationship between the two, it is certainly a possibility that Caribou may be working for the Cross Guild. In fact, Caribou seems to be thematically tied to the organization due to both his being known as a marine killer like Mihawk, and him being frequently used by Oda as a gag villain like Buggy. Caribou’s strong religious beliefs may even reference the cult of Buggy, providing an explanation for why he wants to collect treasure to curry favour with him. Also, given Crocodile’s initial quest to locate Pluton on Arabasta, it would bring the narrative full circle if Caribou were working as his informant.
Only time will tell who Caribou will reveal this crucial information to, but though the Cross Guild was late to join the race to find the One Piece, if Caribou is indeed working for them, this knowledge could easily help bridge the gap between them and other crews. As of chapter 1098 the focus of the story is on Bonney and Kuma’s backstory, but with Elbaf being the Straw Hats current destination, fans expect the next arc to bring the narrative back to the mysteries of the Ancient Weapons and Kingdom.
