After being cast out by his family because of his peculiar appearance in the One Piece anime franchise, Chopper is taken in by Hiruluk, who cares for him and mentors him into becoming a doctor. The reindeer in his normal form is small and cute. However, that can quickly change into a massive creature because of the effects of the Hito Hito no Mi demon fruit. After Hiruluk’s painful demise, Chopper continues training with Kureha, becoming a brilliant doctor with great potential.
Following his encounter with the Straw Hat Pirates in the One Piece anime franchise, Chopper agrees to join the crew, becoming their doctor. Despite the young reindeer’s timidity, he goes on dangerous missions with the pirates, keeping old friends in his heart while forming new ones.
One Piece: Brook’s Best Friends, Ranked
The Straw Hat’s musician has developed the closest bond with these individuals.
7 Robin
Chopper’s Reading Mate
Robin is one of the main characters and a member of the Straw Hat Pirates in the One Piece anime series. Despite her initial antagonistic encounter with the crew, her relationship with them improves when Luffy saves her from dying and accepts her as a member of the crew. Robin is a very calm and reserved character who is also credited with wisdom and patience.
Despite Chopper’s initial wariness of her because she is an assassin, they become good friends because the two characters share a love for reading and knowledge. Robin is very affectionate towards the young reindeer and accords him with maternal care.
6 Nami
Chopper’s ‘Big Sister’
Nami’s relationship with the Straw Hat pirates was initially strained because of her resentment towards pirates. She suffered a great deal at the hands of pirates who ambushed her village and killed her adoptive mother. Her attitude only changes when, despite betraying Luffy, he defends her against her oppressors and saves her village. Nami might not be the strongest physical asset against enemies, but her role as a navigator on the ship makes her an essential member of the Straw Hat Pirates.
When Nami fell ill and was on the verge of death, Chopper nursed her to health. Despite her occasional angry outbursts, she is affectionate towards the reindeer and sees him as a younger brother. When things get reckless or cold, Nami would snuggle Chopper’s fur for comfort. Like most other crew members, Nami protects Chopper and would not let anyone hurt him.
5 Zoro
Chopper’s ‘Big Brother’
Zoro is one of the main characters in One Piece and is a member of the Straw Hat Pirates. To the young and timid reindeer, Zoro’s courage and strength are both impressive and inspirational. Despite his apathetic and stoic demeanor toward the crew, he is close to a few of them, including Chopper.
One Piece: Zoro’s Best Friends, Ranked
The one-eyed swordsman in One Piece holds these individuals closest to his heart.
Chopper is easily frightened and often relies on Zoro for protection; when the latter sustains injuries from battle, the young doctor tends to his wounds. Zoro is not sentimental but allows his small friend to sit on his shoulders, showing his care and closeness to him.
4 Luffy
Chopper’s Captain
When Nami and Sanji become gravely ill, Luffy takes them to Chopper’s village, despite the harsh conditions of the trip. This and several other courageous and selfless feats shown by Luffy encourage the young doctor to join the Straw Hat Pirates. Luffy is not at all bothered by Chopper’s transformations; if anything, he is fascinated by the reindeer’s abilities and invites him to become a member of his crew.
Despite Luffy being older than Chopper, they share childlike antics and goof around at anything that piques their interest. Given how much Chopper respects and looks up to his captain, they have a strong bond of trust and care. Although Chopper would rather avoid dangerous and reckless feats, he still puts himself in danger for Luffy and accompanies him on such feats.
3 Usopp
Chopper’s Comedy Partner
Usopp is one of the main supporting characters in One Piece. Additionally, he was one of the earliest members of the Straw Hat Pirates. Usopp met the crew on the premise of pretense, but his courage and determination to save his village from enemy pirates proved him worthy of being an addition to the crew.
One Piece: 7 Devil Fruits Perfect For Usopp
Usopp would make great use of these Devil Fruits.
Although cowardly and deceitful, Usopp is a remarkable sniper and toughens up to people who are in danger. On meeting Chopper for the first time, Usopp is frightened by the reindeer’s appearance, but as they get closer, they become good friends, sharing a sibling-like relationship. Chopper adores Usopp and is impressed by his tales, albeit untrue. Despite not being as strong as most of the crew, both characters make a great team when fighting enemies.
2 Kureha
Chopper’s ‘Mom’
Although Kureha is initially unwilling to train Chopper, she eventually agrees, as it is Hiriluk’s dying wish. Under her training, Chopper further develops his medical skills, which have promising potential. Kureha is not very expressive of her affection for the young reindeer, but the older woman is very fond of him and thinks of him as her son.
Chopper becomes a brilliant doctor and shows remarkable skill when he cures Kureha of a deadly illness, making her proud. Even though they are seas apart, she still wishes him well and is always happy that Chopper is finding his footing as a doctor in the world of pirates.
1 Hiriluk
Chopper’s ‘Dad’
When Chopper’s herd casts him out, leaving the young reindeer out in the cold with nowhere to go, Hiriluk takes him in and cares for him like a son. Hiriluk took the young reindeer under his wings and trained him to be a doctor. Despite their occasional bickering, it is clear that both characters care deeply for one another.
As they travel together, treating clients and sometimes causing trouble, the teacher and student create memories they cherish dearly. When Hiriluk becomes fatally ill, Chopper is unable to cure him despite his unwavering efforts. All of this effort come to naught because his older friend eventually passes away. Chopper still remembers his teacher fondly and carries on his dream to cure all the diseases in the world.
