One Piece: 7 Characters Who Hate Zoro The Most

Highlights

  • Zoro, the ambitious Pirate Hunter of the Straw Hat Pirates, has made many enemies due to his dream of becoming the world’s greatest swordsman.
  • Cabaji holds a grudge against Zoro for defeating him, with added backstory in the Netflix adaptation making his hatred even stronger.
  • Zoro’s battles against fierce opponents like Scratchmen Apoo, Morgan, Kaido, Rob Lucci, Pica, and King showcase his strength and determination.

Led by Monkey D. Luffy, the Straw Hat Pirates are the most infamous crew in the entire world of One Piece. They have defeated countless enemies and even taken down evil monarchs, so they have naturally made a lot of enemies from all over the seas. And as a result, Luffy’s most loyal companion shares this hatred: The Pirate Hunter, Roronoa Zoro.

Zoro is not only one of the most notorious members of the Straw Hat Pirates, but he’s also determined on becoming the world’s greatest swordsman. This ambitious dream has forced him to confront and defeat countless enemies all over the world. A lot of people truly despise Zoro, but who hates him more than anybody else? Just a heads-up: Despite their hilarious, long-running rivalry, Sanji is not on the list because he doesn’t actually hate him.

7 Cabaji

Still Holds A Big Grudge Against Zoro

When the Straw Hat Pirates faced the Buggy Pirates, their chief of staff, Cabaji, was challenged by Zero since they both are skilled swordsmen. But despite his arrogance and his tricky unicycle maneuvers, the Pirate Hunter took him down, proving that he’s a strong combatant worthy of being part of Luffy’s crew.

This battle was one of the first victories that Zoro achieved in the entire series, and Cabaji has shown great resentment over him ever since, just like his captain Buggy resents Luffy. What’s interesting is that Netflix’s Live Action adaptation added a brand-new backstory to Cabaji, who wants to take revenge on the Pirate Hunter because he killed his older brother. So, this version of the character hates Zoro even more.

6 Scratchmen Apoo

A Traitorous Pirate That Was Swiftly Taken Care Of

Scratchmen Apoo is one of the infamous members of the Worst Generation, since he didn’t hesitate to betray his fellow pirates because he was working for Kaido. When Luffy and Zoro first encountered him during the Raid on Onigashima, Apoo began attacking them relentlessly, causing some true bad blood to arise between them.

But when Queen spread the Oni Plague on the battlefield, and forced the antidote on Apoo, the musical pirate became the target of many people, of which the only one who succeeded in stopping him was Zoro. With just one powerful attack, the Pirate Hunter completely incapacitated Apoo, not only damaging him in the process, but also exposing how useless he actually was to the Beast Pirates.

5 Morgan

Didn’t Hesitate To Publicly Punish The Bounty Hunter

Morgan is one of the very first corrupt marines introduced in One Piece and this is immediately evident in the way he tyranically ruled over Shells Town. When Zoro killed Helmeppo’s dangerous pet wolf, Morgan arrested the bounty hunter and publicly starved him for over a month. Not to mention that he also confiscated his three swords.

But as fate would dictate, this ruthless punishment would lead to the meeting between Zoro and Monkey D. Luffy. Even though Morgan saw these commoners as inferior to him, they both managed to swiftly defeat him, and Zoro even dealt the devastating final blow. Morgan would later be convicted for his actions and lose everything he had, mostly because of Zoro’s actions.

4 Kaido

Reminded Him Of Kozuki Oden

Despite his impressive size and power, Kaido is a strong warrior who usually respects his opponents. But there’s someone he resents more than anybody else, and that is his former rival and enemy, Kozuki Oden. So, when Zoro joined the showdown on the roof of Onigashima while wielding Oden’s sword, Enma, he immediately caught Kaido’s attention.

Kaido could sense Oden’s Haki emanating from the sword, which brought back some awful memories for him. But things got even worse when Zoro performed his destructive Ashura attack on him, and thus became one of the few people who could permanently scar the world’s strongest creature. At that moment, Roronoa Zoro looked like an incarnation of Kozuki Oden, and this made Kaido really mad.

3 Rob Lucci

Hates Zoro As Much As Luffy

Even though Kaku was Zoro’s CP9 opponent during the Enies Lobby Arc, it seemed that there was no bad blood between them, and they even somewhat respected each other. But the same can’t be said about Kaku’s leader, Rob Lucci, who despises Luffy and, as a result, equally hates every member of his crew.

Rob Lucci interacted with Zoro during the Egghead Island Arc, where CP0 and the Straw Hat Pirates temporarily teamed up in order to fight against the Seraphim. But Lucci betrayed them afterward, which led to a one-on-one battle against Zoro. As they clashed against each other, Rob Lucci kept insulting the Pirate Hunter, claiming that killing him would be as pleasant as killing his captain. Zoro eventually came out victorious with by dealing a powerful final blow, before escaping alongside Jinbe, which completely humiliated Rob Lucci.

2 Pica

Zoro’s Angriest Opponent

images/news/2024/6/11/one-piece-characters-who-hate-zoro-the-most_6.jpg

Because of his samurai-like personality, most of Zoro’s defeated opponents seem to hold some level of respect towards him. But, as it can be seen throughout this very same list, there are some villains who can’t help but hold a big grudge. And one of the most notorious examples is Pica, one of the strongest officers from the Donquixote Family.

They got off to a bad start when Zoro laughed at and mocked Pica’s high-pitched voice alongside Luffy, something that greatly angered him. They eventually engaged in battle and, despite his enormous arrogance and practical Devil Fruit, Pica recognized that the Pirate Hunter was way stronger than him. This culminated in a final showdown where Pica covered his entire body with Haki, which he was confident Zoro could never cut through. Of course, he was wrong, and he was efficiently defeated by the green-haired swordsman.

1 King

His Dreams Were Completely Crushed By Zoro

images/news/2024/6/11/one-piece-characters-who-hate-zoro-the-most_7.jpg

Zoro vs. King is arguably one of the most intense battles in all of One Piece. At first, this seemed like a regular – almost mandatory – encounter because they are both the second-in-command of their respective crews. Zoro even managed to get on King’s bad side by damaging the mask that he uses to hide his identity. But they found out more about each other as they kept fighting.

Zoro and King mirror each other, as they were both saved from the World Government by their respective captains and became the first members of their crews. Zoro fights fiercely because he believes Luffy will become the Pirate King and Alber fights fiercely because he believes Kaido will become the Pirate King. Their battle became more personal because of these newfound feelings, and King was truly dumbfounded when Zoro managed to defeat him. Everything he believed in and fought for was gone in seconds, all due to this powerful swordsman from the East Blue.
