The world of One Piece is cruel and unfair. Only those who have enough strength can protect themselves and their loved ones. The lack of strength led to the journey of many pirate crews being cut short, and they were left with no other option but to give up.
The Roger Pirates are an exception. The crew was founded by Gol D. Roger, and together, they managed to achieve many great things. The Roger Pirates were hounded by the World Government, but the organization was unable to capture them. Ultimately, the crew disbanded after Roger turned himself in to the Marines. Needless to say, the Roger Pirates would have accomplished much more if they had stayed active.
6 Winning The Edd War
Getting The Better Of Shiki’s Armada
The reputation of the Roger Pirates preceded them. Everywhere they went, people knew who they were. Most of the credit for their success went to their captain, Gol D. Roger. He was a fearless man who never ran away from any kind of battle, even if the odds were stacked against him. The story behind the Edd War highlighted his unwavering resolve.
Roger was confronted by Shiki, who wanted them to team up and take over the world. However, Roger refused Shiki’s offer, as he valued freedom over everything else. Shiki was unhappy with Roger’s response and decided to take him down. Roger was alone with his crew, while Shiki had an entire armada to back him up. Any logical person would bet on Shiki to win. However, the Roger Pirates had an indomitable spirit, so they gave it their best shot. With some help from the weather, the Roger Pirates emerged victorious. Meanwhile, Shiki and his armada suffered many losses.
5 Fighting The Whitebeard Pirates
Not Losing To The Strongest Man In The World
The Whitebeard Pirates were captained by Edward Newgate, who formerly served on the crew of Rocks D. Xebec. After starting his own crew, Whitebeard’s name became famous throughout the world. He was armed with the Gura Gura no Mi, a Devil Fruit so strong that it was said to have the power to destroy the entire world.
The other members of his crew were no slouches either. So, it was a massive challenge for the Roger Pirates to try and fight them. Surprisingly, they were able to hold their own against Whitebeard’s crew. This was a big achievement for the Roger Pirates.
4 Beating The Rocks Pirates
Ridding The World Of A Big Evil
The Rocks Pirates were one of the most dangerous crews in One Piece. They were led by Rocks D. Xebec, a man who wanted to conquer the entire world. The Rocks Pirates had some great fighters in their ranks. So, they were very confident, even when they were going up against big names.
In God Valley, the Rocks Pirates got into an altercation with the Celestial Dragons. Rocks and his compatriots would have won easily, but fate had other plans. The Roger Pirates and the Marines decided to cooperate to bring down a common enemy. While all the details of the fight were not revealed, it was confirmed that the Rocks Pirates lost. Furthermore, Rocks D. Xebec died in the battle.
3 Completing Two Voyages Without Being Caught
Elusive Beyond Measure
The Roger Pirates were the personifications of freedom and free will. They were not bound by the desire to rule over the world. They enjoyed the journey that they were on. The Roger Pirates managed to complete the voyage around the Grand Line not once but twice.
The first time that they did it, they could not find the One Piece. So Roger begged Whitebeard to borrow Oden for some time. Whitebeard was not ready to accept, but after seeing Oden’s eagerness to join Roger, he didn’t stop him. After Oden joined the crew, the Roger Pirates could finally learn what was written on the Poneglyphs. This enabled them to reach Laugh Tale on the second attempt. Throughout their two attempts, no power in the world could stop the Roger Pirates. Neither the Marines nor any other pirate group could muster up the strength to bring an end to Roger’s journey.
2 Claiming The One Piece
Finding The Greatest Treasure
Gol D. Roger and his crew were unsuccessful in their first attempt to find Laugh Tale. But they managed to complete their objective in their subsequent attempt. With Oden’s ability to read Poneglyphs, the Roger Pirates finally reached their destination.
Every single person on the crew was overjoyed to reach Laugh Tale and learn about the treasure. However, Gol D. Roger decided against claiming the treasure. He left the One Piece on the island and sailed back. Shortly afterward, Roger left, and the crew disbanded. Roger turned himself in, and before his execution, he told the entire world about the treasure’s existence.
1 Learning The Truth
Uncovering The Biggest Mystery
The Roger Pirates were highly devoted to finding the final island. When they finally reached it on the second attempt, they were overjoyed. The crew found the One Piece, which would become an object of desire for every pirate in the world. Aside from the One Piece, the Roger Pirates also learned about the true history of the world. This was confirmed by Silvers Rayleigh on the Saboady Archipelago.
The crew likely found out about the origins of the World Government and how the organization maintained power by committing all kinds of atrocities. They must have also found out about the Ancient Kingdom, which was eradicated by the World Government. The information that they got made them enemies of the World Government, which is why the Roger Pirates were hunted even years after their dissolution.
