One Piece: 6 Best Blackbeard Quotes

Highlights

  • Blackbeard, a formidable opponent, is a knowledgeable and powerful pirate with iconic quotes in One Piece lore.
  • Blackbeard revels in chaos, showing his cunning and cruelty in his actions, especially with Devil Fruits.
  • Blackbeard’s belief in destiny and dreams drives his actions, instilling fear and showcasing immense power in One Piece.

Blackbeard is one of the most dangerous and infamous pirates in the world of One Piece, with his multiple Devil Fruits and terrifying crew making him a truly formidable opponent to Luffy and the Straw Hats, who no doubt will be one of the final enemies that they must somehow overcome in the story. However, while Blackbeard can admittedly sometimes come across as a little clumsy and aloof, it’s clear that behind his more jovial and upbeat exterior, he’s very knowledgeable about the world and its inhabitants, as would be expected from someone who once sailed the seas alongside the legendary Whitebeard.

Though he only shows up now and again throughout the story, Blackbeard always manages to make an impression whenever he makes an appearance, often making big and grand speeches that are always packed full of quotables. Even to this day, Blackbeard still has some of the most iconic quotes in the entire series, which is a testament to just how great of a speaker he is, despite not seeming like it on the surface.

1 “Fate Has Chosen Me To Conquer This World”

Episode: 486

  • Blackbeard Proudly Proclaimed That He Is The One Destined To Be The Ruler Of The World

Blackbeard may enjoy the sound of his voice, but one thing that has been made clear is that he will never say something that he doesn’t truly believe, so when he testifies that “Fate” has chosen him to be the ruler of the world, this is an idea that he’s probably had for quite some time. What makes this quote so chilling is the fact that it’s not exactly beyond the realm of possibility, given how absurdly powerful Blackbeard is thanks to his two devastating Devil Fruits.

This line also references Blackbeard’s belief that there isn’t any inherent good or evil in the world, and that fate and dreams are the only things that guide people to act the way they do. In the case of Blackbeard himself, he sees nothing wrong with wiping out entire islands and betraying his closest friends, since this is ultimately his own personal “Fate,” which is certainly one way to justify his heinous actions.

2 “With Big Mom And Kaido Gone, The World’s Gonna Turn On Its Head. Sounds Fun, Huh?”

Episode: 1093

  • The Idea Of A World Being Plunged Into Chaos Sounds Pretty Exciting To Someone As Evil As Blackbeard

While the marines are constantly trying to apprehend smaller pirate crews in an attempt to enact their form of justice onto the world, they aren’t exactly in a hurry to take down the Yonko, primarily because it would take an extreme amount of lives and resources to even begin trying to arrest them. As a result, so long as the Yonko don’t start another war with one another, they are seemingly left alone to their own devices, but when Luffy and the gang manage to take down both Kaido and Big Mom during the Wano arc, it creates a massive shift of power as the two biggest pirates in the world are removed from the equation.

Rather than being distressed or anxious about this revelation, Blackbeard revels in the idea of Big Mom and Kaido being gone for good, even though it insinuates that Luffy himself has grown incredibly strong, maybe even rivaling Blackbeard himself in strength. It just goes to show how Blackbeard loves nothing more than chaos, and when the world is turned upside down, he’s always there watching from the sidelines with a gigantic smile on his face.

3 “This Is A Real Head-Scratcher…But I Guess I Gotta Kill Ya”

Episode: 1087

  • During His Encounter With Hancock, Blackbeard Proves That He Knows More Than He Lets On About The Devil Fruits

When it was announced that the Shichibukai were finally going to be disbanded, Blackbeard took it upon himself to apprehend these powerful pirates before the marines could get to them, in an attempt to steal their Devil Fruits for him and his crew. His first target, Boa Hancock, didn’t stand a chance against Blackbeard’s relentless onslaught, but as he held her up in a chokehold, he began pondering Hancock’s abilities, before flippantly stating that he’s got no choice but to kill her.

Not only does this quote show just how cruel and vindictive Blackbeard is, but it also demonstrates just how much he knows about the Devil Fruits and their powers. Blackbeard was fully aware that if he let Hancock go, she would be able to turn him and his crew to stone, and it’s because of this knowledge that he was able to avoid being killed outright, highlighting that he’s a deceivingly smart and very calculated individual behind all the jokes and laughs.

4 “You’re Looking More Handsome Than Ever, Red Hair? That Scar Suits You Nicely”

Episode: 489

images/news/2024/3/18/one-piece-best-blackbeard-quotes_4.jpg

  • Blackbeard Shows No Regrets About Betraying The People Who Once Saw Him As Family

Whitebeard shared a very close bond with all of his crewmates, seeing all of them as his own “Sons” whom he would come to raise and care for throughout his entire life. As a result, this familial relationship shared between the crew made Blackbeard’s betrayal all the more painful, and though he did manage to escape with a brand new Devil Fruit in his possession, he also landed one final attack on Shanks a short while before the betrayal took place, which left a permanent scar over the Yonko’s left eye.

Once Shanks shows back up during the Marineford arc and comes face to face with Blackbeard, it’s clear that he still has a seething hatred for the man who turned his back on his family, but Blackbeard on the other hand couldn’t care less about his past sins, as shown with this damning quote. The fact that he openly mocks Shanks showcases just how dark Blackbeard’s heart is, having absolutely no remorse for the ones who used to be his close friends, and instead, reveling in the fact that he tore them apart.

5 “A Hand Of Darkness To Call Forth The Void. A Hand Of Light To Shake The Heavens And Bend The Earth”

Episode: 486

images/news/2024/3/18/one-piece-best-blackbeard-quotes_5.jpg

  • This Truly Chilling Quote Perfectly Sums Up The Immense Amount Of Power That Blackbeard Possesses

Devil Fruit users in the world of One Piece are known for being incredibly strong and formidable individuals, but this goes double for Blackbeard, who somehow can possess two Devil Fruits at the same time. Not only that, he managed to get his hands on two of the most destructive Devil Fruits in the entire world, these being the Dark-Dark Fruit and the Termor-Termor Fruit, the latter of which was in possession of the mighty Whitebeard until he was killed.

Considering that Whitebeard’s fruit was able to cause earthquakes, it’s a truly frightening sight when Blackbeard can be shown extracting it during the Marineford arc after killing his former captain. With this single quote, Blackbeard perfectly sums up why he deserves to be so feared among his fellow pirates and marines, cementing himself as quite possibly the strongest being in all of One Piece as a result.

6 “People’s Dreams…Have No End”

Episode: 146

  • One Of The Most Inspirational And Important Quotes In The Series Came From Blackbeard During His First Appearance

The first time Blackbeard shows up in the series is during the Jaya arc where he actually can be seen enjoying an apple pie alongside Luffy who, at that point, has no idea about the true identity of the man sitting next to him. After a fight breaks out and Luffy is kicked out of the bar, Blackbeard decides to share some of his own opinions on the “New Age” and the rumors of a Sky Island by proclaiming, in quite poetic fashion, that no matter how much doubt is thrown towards pirates, “People’s Dreams…Have No End.”

This quote is incredibly ironic as it lights a fire in Luffy, who up to that point had been endlessly ridiculed and made fun of for following his dreams, but thanks to the wise words of his soon-to-be arch-nemesis, he regained his confidence and carried on with his journey. At the same time, this line provided a small glimpse into just how driven Blackbeard also was as a pirate, and how he’s more than willing to do anything necessary to achieve his dream of becoming the king of the pirates.
