  • Rumors suggest there may be a time jump to introduce Sidney’s teenage daughters to face Ghostface.
  • Fans speculate on the possibility of Sidney mentoring a new final girl in the upcoming sequel.

Sidney Prescott will be back for Scream 7 after Neve Campbell sorted out her pay dispute with Spyglass Media. This means, of course, that Ghostface will once again target the iconic final girl. Fans are speculating over whether Sidney could interact with a new final girl in the upcoming sequel, after the departures of Melissa Barrera and Jenna Ortega as the latest Scream queens, Sam and Tara Carpenter.

There has also been speculation over the possible introduction of Sidney Prescott’s family. Patrick Dempsey’s storyline is rumored to feature in Scream 7, as the actor weighs reprising the role of Sidney’s husband, Mark Kincaid. It was revealed in Scream 2022 that Sidney and Mark have three daughters together. Rumor has it that there will be a significant time jump in Scream 7 to age two of these children to their teenage years, so they can play a role as Ghostface goes on his murder spree. This means that one or more of Sidney’s daughters could potentially be new final girls for Sidney to mentor.

What Is Known About Scream 7 So Far?

The initial plan for Scream 7 was to complete the Sam and Tara Carpenter story. However, this plan hit a stumbling block when Spyglass Media fired Melissa Barrera, and Jenna Ortega left the project due to scheduling issues. Guy Busick rewrote the script, and Neve Campbell signed on to play Sidney Prescott in the lead role once again. Now, the upcoming sequel is rumored to take place five years after the events of Scream 6.

This time jump is supposedly to introduce Sidney’s two older daughters into the story as teenagers, who will face off against Ghostface. The Prescott/Kincaid family will reside in a new town, instead of Sidney returning to Woodsboro. Courteney Cox is rumored to return as news reporter Gale Weathers, but there are no plans for a Chad and Mindy return. It’s looking like Kirby Reed won’t be playing a part in Scream 7 either.

There is a rumor that Sidney and her family will face off against a cult of Ghostface in Scream 7, but this is unconfirmed. Plot details are under wraps until the movie comes out. Kevin Williamson will be directing Scream 7, after writing the screenplays for Scream, Scream 2 and Scream 4, and also being an executive producer on Scream 2022 and Scream 6.

When Sidney appeared in Scream (2022), she acted as a mentor to Sam and Tara in their quest to defeat the Ghostface killers. Her role was initially designed as a passing of the torch between her character and the Carpenter sisters, but after Sam and Tara’s exits from the franchise, the focus is back on Sidney Prescott. Now, there’s the possibility that she could act as a mentor to a new generation of final girls in Scream 7.

It would make sense that the new final girls of Scream 7 would be Sidney’s children, especially after aging her daughters to put them closer to Sidney’s age in the first Scream. Sidney would have a vested interest in making sure they were equipped for an attack from Ghostface, as they are her own flesh and blood.

It was revealed in Scream 2022 that Sidney wouldn’t appear in Scream 6 to help the Carpenter sisters fight Ghostface. Even though this plot point was because of Neve Campbell’s absence from Scream 6, it made sense that Sidney wouldn’t put herself in harm’s way again to assist with the Ghostface investigation in New York City. She cared about Sam and Tara, but they weren’t her family, which is why the stakes are significantly higher in Scream 7.

David Gordon Green’s Halloween reboot saw Laurie Strode acting as a mentor of sorts to her daughter, Karen, and even more so to her granddaughter, Allyson. It’s likely this will be the angle that Scream 7 will take with Sidney and her children. There is also talk of Scream 7 being the start of a brand-new trilogy, in the same vein as Green’s trilogy, so there is a chance that Sidney’s daughters will carry the Scream franchise into the next generation. However, they’ll need vital mentoring support from Sidney if they are to be ready for the battles with Ghostface.

Sidney was the main focus of the original Scream trilogy, with Ghostface targeting her specifically, but Scream 4 saw the focus shift onto a new generation of high school age teenagers, much like the original 1996 movie. It is likely Scream 7 will return to this set up with the inclusion of Sidney’s teenage daughters in the narrative, with Sidney acting as the mentor to them, and possibly to their friends as well.
