Naruto: Is Boruto Uzumaki Stronger Than Naruto?

Highlights

  • Naruto Uzumaki’s strength peaked with Sage Mode and Six Paths Sage Mode, overwhelming even Madara and Kaguya.
  • Boruto Uzumaki, a prodigy ninja, gains Momoshiki’s powers through Karma, making him overpowered in the series.
  • In a battle between Boruto and Naruto without Baryon Mode, Boruto may have the upper hand due to his growth and unique abilities.

Naruto Uzumaki is one of the most iconic characters in anime in general, and within the Naruto series itself, he is quite easily the most popular character of all time. Naruto defined a generation and inspired millions of people all over the world, and this was down to not just his lovable personality, but also, at the same time, his tremendous strength.

When it comes to strength, Naruto is certainly one of the strongest individuals in the entire franchise, however, there are many other individuals who have, over the years, come close. Naruto’s very own son, Boruto Uzumaki, is believed to be one such individual and, at the moment, in Two Blue Vortex, Boruto appears to be unbeatable. The question is, however, how does he compare to his father?

At the peak of his abilities, Naruto Uzumaki was absolutely unstoppable in battle. Naruto acquired tremendous powers throughout the Naruto series. The main source of his abilities was always Kurama, his Tailed Beast. Naruto did not have any control over Kurama at the beginning of the story, however, as time passed, his control over Kurama increased, as did his general level of strength. Naruto learned about nature transformations, created his own Jutsu, and of course, even learned Sage Mode, which became a massive asset to him. By the time of the Fourth Great Ninja War, Naruto was an accomplished ninja even without utilizing the power of Kurama. Eventually, however, Naruto won over Kurama’s heart, and the two became the best of friends. That is precisely when Naruto was able to tap into his true power and access an unlimited pool of chakra.

Yeah, I can feel it. Now, I feel like I can change everything!! – Naruto Uzumaki after awakening Six Paths powers.

Naruto went on to master the abilities Of Kurama during the war, and he did so flawlessly. While that in itself made Naruto one of the strongest ninjas to ever live, he did not stop there. Naruto was able to combine the powers of Sage Mode and Kurama, resulting in a heightened state where he could even fight back against the likes of Ten Tails Obito. That said, this level of strength was not enough for him to go up against Madara. That required Naruto to gain an entirely different power from the Sage of Six Paths, and that was the Six Paths Sage Mode. Receiving half of the chakra of the Sage, Naruto gained enough power to overwhelm even the likes of Madara in combat, and hold his own against the likes of Kaguya.

In the years to come, Naruto’s strength increased tremendously and this was largely down to the fact that he received the second half of Kurama as well. If that wasn’t enough, then, fans should also consider the fact that Naruto could fight back and overwhelm Momoshiki Otsutsuki at half of his strength. Of course, Naruto struggled greatly against Isshiki, however, eventually, he tapped into the power of Baryon Mode, which put him on a level far beyond Isshiki and made him Boruto’s strongest character to date. This power level has not been seen in the story as of yet, However, the only downside of this ability is that it was temporary and resulted in the loss of Kurama, which permanently weakened Naruto greatly for the foreseeable future.

Boruto Uzumaki Keeps Going From Strength To Strength

Boruto Uzumaki, unlike Naruto, was a genius right from childhood. Boruto was considered to be a prodigy by many, and he had even learned multiple nature transformations while he was in the Academy. This was a clear sign of the fact that Boruto was quite different from his father. However, at his core, he still held the spirit of the ninjas, just like Naruto himself. Trained by Sasuke, Boruto was able to reach great heights as a rookie ninja. Of course, much of his power comes from the Karma that was bestowed upon him by none other than Momoshiki Otsutsuki. Essentially, the Karma is the encrypted backup file of an Otsutsuki that they engrave on an individual. Slowly, the genetic data of the Otsutsuki gets extracted, and starts taking over the vessels. Eventually, the Otsutsuki is reborn.

In the case of Boruto, Momoshiki cannot fully be reborn, and Boruto is essentially an Otsutsuki himself. He has access to all of Momoshiki’s powers, and can access them at will. This makes Boruto Uzumaki quite an overpowered individual.

That certainly isn’t all. Boruto is also known to have had ties to the Otsutsuki right from the get-go, and this was mentioned by Toneri Otsutsuki. If that wasn’t enough, then fans should also consider the fact that Boruto has, at times, wielded an eye similar to the Byakugan, and in other instances, this eye has been called the Jougan, at least in the anime. The powers remain unknown to this day. However, fans will most likely find out more about it later down the line.

In the timeskip of Boruto, he is known to have trained with Sasuke Uchiha, learning every single ability that Sasuke possessed. Still, that does not place him on the same level as Sasuke as Boruto has only learned the basic levels of these techniques. He still needs to master them. Other than that, Boruto has also learned other incredible techniques, such as Uzuhiko, and of course, his overall level of strength is great enough for him to clash against even Otsutsuki level ninjas, and overpower the likes of Code easily.

A Rasengan that incorportaes the planet’s rotation into its chakra – that’s what Uzuhiko is.

Boruto has advanced greatly in terms of strength, and he has managed to reach a level where he doesn’t even need to rely on the Karma to defeat individuals such as Code in battle. This places Boruto quite high up the pecking order in terms of strength.

Is Boruto Stronger Than Naruto Uzumaki?

Boruto Uzumaki Is Closing In On Naruto

At the moment, Boruto Uzumaki is easily one of the strongest individuals that has appeared in the Naruto franchise. However, when compared to Naruto Uzumaki, he should still be weaker than the Baryon Mode version of Hokage that the fans saw. The Baryon Mode version of Naruto Uzumaki was absolutely unstoppable and could essentially have ended Boruto within a few punches, since he could shave his chakra and reduce his lifespan effectively. In just about every aspect of battle, Naruto Uzumaki excels when it comes to him in Baryon Mode. However, without Baryon Mode, it is highly likely for a battle between Boruto and Naruto to be extremely even. In fact, it might not even be a stretch to say that Boruto Uzumaki would be able to win against him in battle if Naruto does not utilize Baryon Mode. That is, unless there is a retcon in the series that upscales Naruto Uzumaki further.

Regardless, what fans know is that both of these individuals are incredibly overpowered, and that Naruto himself would be proud of the growth that Boruto has showcased over the years. The next generation of ninjas almost always surpasses the previous one, and for Boruto to surpass his father should not come as a surprise to the fans.

Boruto is available to read via Viz Media. The series can be read by the fans officially and for free on the Shonen Jump and the Manga Plus app. The release date for the next chapter of Boruto, Boruto: Two Blue Vortex chapter 9, is set to be April 18, 2024.
