Highlights
- U.A. High is not the only top hero academy in Japan, with other schools like Shiketsu, Seiai, and Ketsubutsu High showcasing their strength through top students.
- Students from various hero schools, such as Saiko Intelli from Seiai Academy, Habuko Mongoose from Isamu Academy, Inasa Yoarashi from Shiketsu High, and Yo Shindo from Ketsubutsu Academy, have proven their prowess and strength.
- Izuku Midoriya, known as Deku, from U.A. High has become the strongest hero of his generation, surpassing his predecessors with the powerful quirk, One For All.
With U.A. High being the primary backdrop for My Hero Academia’s narrative, fans often conflate the school as Japan’s top hero academy. However, U.A. High is rivaled by a number of other hero schools, both in prestige and power. The Provisional Hero License Exam Arc introduced some of these hero schools, accompanied by a roster of new hero students.
Despite receiving limited exposition during My Hero Academia’s run, schools such as Shiketsu, Seiai, and Ketsubutsu High were able to showcase their strength through their top students, some that even rivaled U.A. High’s strongest. Several students were able to cement themselves as their respective school’s strongest hero, proving that the rest of Japan’s hero academies won’t let U.A. outshine them.
Saiko Intelli
Seiai Academy’s Second-Year Student
First Appearance |
Episode 55 “Class 1-A” |
Quirk |
IQ |
Debut Date |
August 4, 2018 |
Hailing from Seiai Academy, Saiko Intelli is a second-year student known for her impressive wits and IQ. In the hero licensing exam, she assumes leadership and devises a plan to outsmart Class 1-A’s approaching heroes, and while she seems to be well-respected by her classmates, Saiko Intelli appears to be rather arrogant and egoistic.
My formula of success is already decided.
Even with her impressive IQ and a rational plan, she was unable to predict Momo’s actions, a flaw that stems from her lack of emotional intelligence. Despite suffering defeat at the hands of Class 1-A’s ancillary characters, Saiko Intelli has proven herself to be Seiai Academy’s strongest hero student.
Saiko Intelli’s Quirk: IQ
The quirk “IQ” is quite straightforward, boosting Intelli’s intelligence significantly after she drinks tea. With an already impressive IQ of 150, Intelli’s quirk pushes her intelligence beyond the category of ‘genius.’ However, the quirk has a major flaw, as Intelli cannot predict emotion-driven responses and actions.
Habuko Mongoose
Isamu Academy High School’s First-Year Student
First Appearance |
“Training of the Dead” OVA |
Quirk |
Paralysis |
Debut Date |
June 2, 2017 |
Habuko Mongoose belongs to Isamu Academy, the only hero school to be revealed outside the hero licensing exams. Habuko was introduced in My Hero Academia’s OVA, which featured a joint training session between U.A. High and students of Isamu Academy.
Even with an emitter-type quirk, Habuko bears a heteromorphic appearance, leading to a few Class 1-A students fearing her. Habuko is rather shy, though she was still able to become friends with Tsuyu in middle school. From the current roster of Isamu Academy students, Habuko is the strongest student from her school, owing to her lethal paralysis power.
Habuko’s Quirk: Paralysis
By making eye contact with her opponents, Habuko can paralyze them for three seconds. The victims remain conscious, but they can’t move for the entire duration. With her snake-head, Habuko’s quirk seems to be a nod to Medusa, a Gorgon from Greek Mythology.
Inasa Yoarashi
Shiketsu High’s First-Year Student
First Appearance |
Episode 52 “Create Those Ultimate Moves” |
Quirk |
Whirlwind |
Debut Date |
July 14, 2018 |
During the provisional hero licensing exams, Inasa Yoarashi was the only first-year student participating from Shiketsu High, a feat that speaks to his exceptional prowess. With a tall, bulky build and an overwhelming enthusiasm, Inasa has a demanding presence. Despite his excessive politeness, Inasa despises those driven by hatred, which led to him abhorring both Endeavor and Shoto.
To me, heroes are passionate!
It was revealed that Inasa scored the highest points in U.A. High’s entrance exam, though he retracted his application and opted to join Shiketsu, a fact that showcases his unrivaled potential. Despite being a mere freshman, Inasa has precise control over his quirk “Whirlwind,” even overshadowing his second-year teammates.
Inasa’s Quirk: Whirlwind
In essence, Whirlwind grants Inasa the power to control the element of wind, with his range of control expanding to a wide area around him. This lets him create torrential gusts of wind powerful enough to shatter ice.
Manipulating wind also lends Inasa the ability to fly, albeit with some help from his hero costume. Whirlwind is extremely versatile, with its usefulness extending to rescue missions and large-scale offenses.
Yo Shindo
Ketsubutsu Academy High’s Third-Year Student
First Appearance |
Episode 53 “Test” |
Quirk |
Vibrate |
Debut Date |
July 21, 2018 |
As a third-year student, Yo Shindo is naturally a seasoned hero student, with his skills shining through during the hero licensing exam. While he initially appears to be a welcoming person, his true disposition becomes apparent on the battlefield, revealing his cunning nature. He has no qualms with exploiting others’ weaknesses to gain the upper hand, though he still acts with tact.
If there’s anything heroes oughta have at this point… it’s a rock-hard spirit that refuses to bend or break.
Despite his sneaky personality, Yo Shindo truly bears the heart of a hero, with an unbreakable resolve to never bow down to villains. He was able to stop Muscular in his tracks and buy enough time for Deku to defeat the villain, saving civilians in a true act of heroism.
Yo Shindo’s Quirk: Vibrate
As the name suggests, Yo’s quirk “Vibrate” allows him to induce violent vibrations into anything he comes into contact with. While his vibrations can be strong enough to shatter the ground, his body faces a few repercussions as well, rendering him paralyzed for a certain duration.
Izuku Midoriya
U.A. High’s First-Year Student
First Appearance |
Episode 1 “Izuku Midoriya: Origin” |
Quirk |
One For All |
Debut Date |
April 3, 2016 |
Izuku Midoriya, otherwise known as Deku, needs no introduction, as My Hero Academia’s titular character has already cemented himself as a top hero in Japan’s hero landscape. With One For All and its former users’ quirks under his belt, Deku has become the strongest hero of his generation, even surpassing his predecessors.
While the outcome of All For One and Shigaraki’s carnage remains unclear, it’s apparent that Deku is Japan’s last line of defense. With such a power and role placed upon his shoulders, it’s safe to say that Deku is U.A. High’s strongest student.
Izuku Midoriya’s Quirk: One For All
One For All is an accumulation-type quirk that lends the user unfathomable power that can even harm the user’s own body. As a transferable quirk, One For All is accompanied by the quirks of its previous users, all of which have manifested inside Deku.
After learning how to control One For All’s power, Deku has become proficient in utilizing the quirk in conjunction with the previous users’ powers. The result is Deku turning into the world’s strongest hero, capable of taking down any foe.
My Hero Academia is available to stream on Prime Video.
