  • Telescopic allows body parts to retract like a tortoise, Tape shoots durable tape from elbows, and Whole-Body Lens lets lenses sprout all over the body.

The My Hero Academia series portrays a superhero society where 99% of the population now has a kind of superpower (quirk). With so many characters, the diversity of quirks portrayed in the series has a mix of grandeur, creativity, and downright questionability.

Many characters in the series have abilities outside the standard range of invisibility, shapeshifting, and elemental control. Some of the portrayed abilities are as unusual as they seem. Abilities such as Emi Fukukado’s Outburst and Seiji Shishikura’s Meatball are, without a doubt, quirky. However, even the quickest, doofiest of quirks in My Hero Academia can have incredible uses that commonplace quirks cannot compare to.

8 Comic

Manga Fukidashi

Manga Fukidashi’s quirk, Comic, allows him to materialize giant words of onomatopoeia simply by speaking them. Any word that manifests often has a corresponding effect. When Manga Fukidashi says “BANG!” a giant, sturdy BANG drops in the area. If he says “BOING,” a giant “Boing” would manifest as letters capable of bouncing things.

Fukidashi’s quirk is not only quirky as it exemplifies the sound effects of a comic or a manga, but also because it gives its user a head made of comic or manga speech bubbles that changes depending on what he’s doing. While his quirk is incredibly creative and versatile, its effects are unusual.

7 Meatball

Seiji Shishikura

When Seiji Shishikura uses his quirk to manipulate flesh, the effects look all kinds of bizarre. Seiji’s quirk, Meatball, allows him to control all kinds of flesh, including his own. As shown during the Provisional Hero License Exam, Seiji’s signature move is turning his opponents into gross blobs of flesh. Interestingly, his adversaries still maintain all their senses even when they’re nothing more than a blob of flesh with dispaced eyes.

Apart from immobilizing his opponents by turning them into blobs, Seiji also controls his skin as projectiles, using them to attack his enemies or block their attacks. Disregarding his heroic aspirations, Seiji’s ability would make him perfect for a distressing villain.

6 Outburst

Emi Fukukado

Laughter is the best medicine, but in the My Hero Academia series, it’s more than just medicine; it manifests as a quirk that allows Emi Fukukado to arrest villains that bring chaos to society. Emi Fukukado’s quirk, Outburst, causes her enemies to begin laughing uncontrollably. This dulls their senses and makes them easy targets for the pro hero.

As a quirk used by a pro hero, Outburst is all layers of weird. Some would wonder how pro-hero Emi Fukukado was able to pass the layers of tests the current class 1-A students faced to get their provisional hero licenses. As a quirk, various details, such as the severity of the laughter or the conditions for its activation, remain unknown.

5 Bladetooth

Moonfish

For a quirk that only allows its user to turn their teeth into sharp blades, Moonfish uses his quirk as effectively as possible. However, with his quirk, after his teeth, the rest of his body parts have been shown to have minimal use.

Moonfish’s Bladetooth allows him to use his teeth for offense, defense, and even movement. As his teeth turn into sharp blades that can stretch, Moonfish is able to attack his enemies from afar, or in his case, from above. While his quirk is indeed impressive, knowing that the blades originate from his teeth and that he is inherently attracted to flesh raises a number of questions.

4 Telescopic

Tatami Nakagame

For a quirk that excels at dodging enemy attacks, one would think Telescopic is quite a cool ability. Unfortunately, that’s not how it is. If the quirk offered a special kind of vision like in a telescope, it wouldn’t be so quirky; however, Telescopic is in essence a quirk that mirrors the body of a telescope by allowing its user to collapse their body parts like a tortoise or turtle.

The retraction of body parts happens in a jiffy, but the reverse on the body doesn’t happen as instantaneously. The user of the telescopic quirk is Tatami Nakagame, and when her quirk is used with her head in her midsection, the quirk is all the more questionable.

3 Whole-Body Lens

Taneo Tokuda

One important thing to note in the My Hero Academia series is that the quirk a person has from birth plays a huge role in how they can excel in a particular field. For the anime-only journalist, Taneo Tokuda, his quirk, Whole-Body Lens, allows him to make lenses all over his body. Moreover, apart from taking pictures with the lenses he produces from his body, he can also print them.

If he ever decided to become a hero, Taneo would’ve been limited to espionage and information gathering; however, his quirk fits his work as a journalist just fine. However, that doesn’t mean it’s any less quirky to have lenses sprout all over one’s body.

2 Whiteline

Ending

Any driver or pedestrian knows that white lines on roads are incredibly important, as they help communicate information and provide guidelines to all road users. The creator of the My Hero Academia series turned that incredibly minute but important detail into a quirk.

The minor villain Ending was portrayed as having the ability to manipulate all white lines on roads. With his quirk, ending, he is able to control the white lines either to bind targets or flip objects through the air. While his ability would function well in urban areas, in villages without tarred and painted roads, he would be no more than the average human. Moreover, what could happen if roads were painted with yellow lines instead?

1 Tape

Hanta Sero

images/news/2024/6/10/my-hero-academia-quirkiest-quirks-what-they-do_8.jpg

Hanta Sero’s quirk, Tape, allows him to shoot tape from his elbows. Surprisingly, the tapes he produces are durable enough to hold large buildings together, support his weight, and even allow him to restrain his adversaries. Moreover, despite his unconventional ability, Sero’s quirk is quite versatile, as it can be used for attack, maneuverability, support, and even defense, even if it’s relatively weak in terms of defense.

In terms of usage, Sero’s quirk bears semblance to Spider-Man’s powers, which many find cool; however, the fact that Sero can only shoot tape from openings in his elbows makes his quirk ‘Tape’ all the more quirky.
