My Hero Academia Chapter 429: Deku And Ochaco

Highlights

  • The mysterious man in My Hero Academia Chapter 429 is not Tenko Shimura, crushing fans’ hopes in a tragic reveal.
  • Ochaco unburdens herself to Deku, bonding over their guilt and shared desire to save others, in an emotionally charged moment.
  • A new Hero Society is forming, where not just Pro Heroes but regular civilians are recognized for their contributions to the Final War.

My Hero Academia Chapter 429 dropped earlier today and this week’s chapter was, once again, an incredibly exciting one in many ways. However, at the same time, fans do have their set of complaints from this chapter, as has been the case with the vast majority of the epilogue of the series. Originally, Horikoshi had intended to flesh out his epilogue and not end his story abruptly. However, as things have panned out, perhaps, five chapters were not enough to tie all loose ends together, and deliver a proper conclusion, as was evident in this week’s chapter.

Either way, My Hero Academia is now one step away from its finale, and fans absolutely cannot wait to see what is next for the author once he does finish this story completely. For now, there is one more chapter to go, so readers should brace themselves.

The Mysterious Man Is Revealed

The Mysterious Man Was Surprisingly Not Tenko Shimura

My Hero Academia chapter 429 began with the focus being thrown on the mystery man. This was a plot point that fans knew would be brought up at some point in the story. This mystery man was giving a lot of the fans hope, specifically those who had expected for Tenko Shimura to be alive. Fans know that Shigaraki met a very cruel end at the hands of Deku, and this happened after he delivered an incredibly powerful blow to his body, eliminating All For One and Shigaraki at the same time.

Before he could pass away, he asked Deku to deliver a message to Spinner, saying that he fought until the end to destroy, and this was a very moving message. Shigaraki stuck to his ideals right until the very end, but fans knew that this was a tragic end for him. This end was actually made even more tragic after his entire past was revealed when Deku tried to explore his memories. Fans found out that Shigaraki was actually a victim even before being born, and that his entire life was within the grasp of All For One. Shigaraki even died with All For One and any hope fans had of seeing him being saved and given a true future vanished when Deku killed him. This was one character that fans had hoped would be alive, especially with the mysterious man looking exactly like him. However, My Hero Academia chapter 429 crushed the hopes of the fans in the cruelest of ways when it was revealed that the mysterious man was actually not Tenko at all.

This mysterious man was just a regular boy who Horikoshi chose specifically to model after Tenko. The idea here was that this boy faced a similar fate at the hands of his own family. One day, he awoke with a unique ability that was said to be an anomaly and, because of that, everyone’s behavior towards him changed. He was soon locked in a basement, and even had his mouth sewn shut. From that day onwards, until the day that his family was all eliminated in the final war, he was a prisoner. The war gave him a moment respite as he was able to escape, but when he did, he realized that nobody cared about him. This was somewhat similar to Tenko Shimura, who was all by himself in the streets after his family had been eliminated. This mysterious man had resentment in his heart and wondered why society was allowed to live like that when he suffered alone.

Deku And Ochaco Connect

Ochaco Unburdened Her Soul To Deku

Fans expected My Hero Academia chapter 429 to focus heavily on Deku and Ochaco, and that is precisely what happened. It can be said that this part of the chapter was somewhat satisfactory, but, at the same time, it wasn’t perfect in any way. Fans do have their complaints from this chapter as well, just as they have had with many other chapters. For one, fans had hoped for this chapter to be one where Deku and Ochaco confess their feelings to each other. In a way, that did happen, but readers didn’t actually get to see them say the words explicitly. Still, fans could see Ochaco unburden herself to Deku, and it was revealed clearly that the fact that Toga died for her was bothering her.

She did not want Toga to die, and she did not want society to simply forget her as well. Toga sacrificed her life for Ochaco, because she was the only one who acknowledged her truly beautiful smile, and Ochaco was distraught at not being able to do anything to save her.

You’re my Hero! – Deku to Ochaco Uraraka

This is something that Deku and Ochaco bonded over. He was not able to save Tenko while Ochaco was not able to save Toga. They will both go on to carry this guilt for their entire life, but they simply cannot give up. This is the message that Deku delivered to her, as he extended a helping hand to her. Deku told her that she has always cared more about other people, which is absolutely spot-on. Among all the Heroes that fans have seen, Ochaco is one of the most selfless ones, if not the most selfless of all time. She always puts herself last, and gives priority to saving the lives, and even the smiles of other people. Ochaco is a kind-hearted individual, and she has been one even to Deku. That is why Deku proclaimed her to be his hero in My Hero Academia chapter 429, as the two bonded over this very emotionally charged moment, and Deku held her hand to give her support.

At the same time, the other Heroes poured in as well, and offered their support to Ochaco, which meant that things were finally sorted out between the two. Of course, Deku will carry the guilt of killing Shigaraki forever, and Ochaco will never feel at ease knowing that Toga died for her and she could do nothing for her in return. But, that is how Heroes go on. They can only try their best to make the world a better place, and whenever the next person who needs help pops along, they will do their best to notice them in their pain, and extend a helping hand.

A New Hero Society

The Mysterious Man Is Saved

The message that Horikoshi tried to push in My Hero Academia chapter 429 was that of a new Hero Society. One where Heroes don’t have to work all the time, and not just the Pro Heroes are Heroes. There are people other than the Pro Heroes who helped win the Final War, and that is why All Might suggested that the scope of the hero billboard be expanded. Hawks then weighed in on this and suggested that not just Heroes but normal civilians be included in it as well, and this is precisely where fans saw the chapter go back to the mysterious man, who was shown at the beginning of the story.

There is no need to worry, because Granny is here!

Horikoshi Juxtaposed this scenario with that of Tenko Shimura, and whereas did not receive a helping hand from the old lady back then and was manipulated by All For One into becoming a destructive individual who eventually met a very tragic end, the same lady offered a helping hand to this individual. Being inspired by Izuku, she exclaimed that granny was here for the boy and that there was nothing to worry about anymore. This is the new Hero Society and while it is certainly not perfect, it is going to continue to evolve and get better.

My Hero Academia is available to read via Viz Media. The series can be read by the fans officially and for free on the Shonen Jump and the Manga Plus app. The release date for the final chapter of My Hero Academia, My Hero Academia chapter 430, is set to be August 4, 2024.
