So it’s no wonder why UA has become the most desirable school for every young mind in Japan who wants to be great heroes just like their idols.

What most people may not realize, however, is the fact that there’s more to UA than just their Heroes Department. So let’s use this chance to delve deeper into the different departments in this school, the subjects that each department focuses on, and some of the students from each department who have appeared in the series.

Department of Heroes

Developing the Nation's New Era of Superheroes

The Department of Heroes is the pride and joy of UA High School. This is the one that makes them known throughout the nation. There are other Schools that offer similar programs, but none of them have the same stellar results as UA High. When it comes to the knowledge, skill, tools, support, and experience needed to become a world-class hero, UA High School is undoubtedly the best.

Apart from the compulsory subjects that are taught in every department, such as Math, Science, Foreign Languages, and several others, the Department of Heroes focuses on everything that a student needs to be a professional hero. This includes combat training, crowd control, search and rescue, quirk mastery, and everything else that heroes need to do their job properly.

Since this is the top hero program in the country, only the best of the best can enroll in UA High’s Department of Heroes. As such, there are only a handful of students who can get into this department every year, which is why there are only two classes on this course. The top hero candidates are in Class 1-A (Deku, Bakugo, and friends), and the next best candidates are in Class 1-B (Komori, Monoma, and friends).

Department of General Education

The Students Who Didn't Quite Make the Cut

Those who want to enter the Department of Heroes, and have the ability to do so, but somehow couldn’t make the cut will be put into the Department of General Education. In any other school, everybody in this department will be considered an excellent student. But at UA High, being excellent is not enough, they have to be extraordinary.

Compared to the students in the Department of Heroes who are prepared to be professional heroes, the students in the Department of General Education have much broader options for their future. They can pursue higher education at top universities, and find career opportunities in various professional fields, and they can even turn into professional heroes if they want. After all, those who display exceptional abilities in this department will get the chance to transfer to the Department of Heroes.

There are more students in the Department of General Education than in the Department of Heroes. In total, there are three classes in this department. Class C, D, and E. Unlike the Department of Heroes, there are not many differences between each class in the Department of General Education, both in terms of grades and skills. The most notable student from this department is Hitoshi Sinsho. He was a student in 1-C before he eventually transferred to the Department of Heroes.

Department of Support

Working Behind the Scenes to Keep Things Running

If students in Class 1-A and 1-B are on a fast track to becoming professional heroes and students in Class 1-C to 1-E can choose whatever path they want for their future, the students in the Department of Support are educated and trained to support the professional heroes. The students in this department are taught to create tools, gadgets, or even costumes that can boost a hero’s quirk and make them even more effective and efficient on the field. In a way, they are on the way to becoming the top designers, engineers, and inventors.

The students in the Department of Support can enjoy state-of-the-art workshops that are equipped with sophisticated tools and advanced machinery. Every student in this department is encouraged to conduct experiments and create all kinds of tools that can be used either by a wide range of heroes or tailored specifically to help certain heroes.

The Department of Support consists of three classes. Class F, G, and H. The most stand-out students from this course have to be the eccentric Mei Hatsume of class 1-H. One month into school she had already created countless strange gadgets with various functionalities. Throughout the story, Mei has created various gears and gadgets for Deku, such as the Air Force Gloves and the Iron Soles. She even helped design UA’s defense system.

Department of Management

Even Superheroes Need Good PR

Last but not least is the Department of Management. Being a hero is not only about combat and costume, but it is also about business, marketing, and management. Those are the kinds of things that are taught to the students in this department. After all, almost every professional hero belongs to an agency that specializes in dealing with the business side of this profession, so it makes sense for a prestigious school like UA to teach about this field as well.

The students from the Department of Management rarely engage in combat. Therefore, there’s no need for them to participate in combat training or any combat-related activities. That’s why the students from this department hardly appear in the story. The Department of Management has three classes. Class I, J, and K. There’s nobody that particularly stands out from this department, but some of them do appear during the UA Sports Festival, analyzing and discussing the performance of the students from the other departments.

UA High School may be famous for its Department of Heroes in Japan, but as discussed in this article, there is more to this school than just training hero candidates. Be it drilling crucial knowledge and skills to future heroes, teaching gifted students so that they can contribute to different fields in the future, crafting tools and gadgets for active heroes, and even educating intelligent students on the business side of this unique profession, UA High School covers every aspect of the hero industry. That’s why every aspiring hero wants to learn at this prestigious school.
