My Hero Academia: 10 Best Sidekicks, Ranked

In the world of My Hero Academia, Pro Heroes come in many shapes and sizes, but only those who get assistance from efficient sidekicks working in their Hero Agencies can become the very best. Teamwork is a crucial part of being a professional hero, and the most powerful characters in this series know this.

While many sidekicks of My Hero Academia are ignored by most fans, they have always been there, helping their heroes however they can. Some are so good at their job that they managed to become Pro Heroes with agencies of their own. The only question is, who are the best sidekicks in the series?

  • First Manga Appearance: Chapter 110
  • First Anime Appearance: Episode 57

Kugo Sakamata, aka Gang Orca, is a strong hero with an intimidating mafia boss aesthetic. He works with a group of sidekicks with striking designs, reminiscent of the goons that would usually fight alongside a villain. But they shouldn’t be underestimated, as they are surprisingly loyal to the Pro Hero.

Gang Orca’s sidekicks were involved in the Sky Egg Attack, the Humarise Terrorist Attacks, and even the Paranormal Liberation War. They also helped him during the Provisional Hero License Exam, where they acted as villains for the aspiring heroes to defeat, alongside Gang Orca himself.

9 Enigma

Worked With Ingenium

  • First Appearance: Vigilantes Manga, Chapter 7.5

Back when he was working as the Pro Hero Ingenium, Tensei Iida worked in the Team Idaten agency alongside a group of efficient sidekicks. But, out of all of them, Enigma stands out the most because of her design, powers, and involvement in the story.

Despite her small size, Enigma can use her Quirk to transform into an enormous mass that could be confused for a villain. But she doesn’t let this stop her from doing the right thing, as she’s eager to help out civilians during several villain attacks. It is unknown what happened to Enigma after Tensei was forced to retire, but most likely, she’s still working as a hero somewhere.

8 Kido

Worked With Endeavor

  • First Manga Appearance: Chapter 56
  • First Anime Appearance: Episode 31

The Flaming Sidekickers are arguably the most iconic group of sidekicks in My Hero Academia. Endeavor is a powerful and intimidating hero, so he needs trustworthy sidekicks by his side. One of the most notorious ones Kido. As expected, most of Endeavor’s sidekicks have quirks that let them resist the incredible heat that the hero emanates from his flames.

Kido, though, is an exception. His quirk allows him to manipulate different trajectories with his bandages. He never left Endeavor’s side, and has proven an extremely useful ally. Kido claims to have adapted to high temperatures after years of working with Endeavor, and he was even able to help Shoto Todoroki in his fierce battle against Dabi.

7 Sirius

Works With Selkie

  • First Anime Appearance: Episode 27
  • First Manga Appearance: Chapter 347

Though he’s both strong and respected, Selkie wouldn’t be the mighty Pro Hero of the seas if not for his sidekicks. Among them, Sirius is the most important, and the brains of the operation. For starters, her Good Ear quirk allows her to locate people and even communicate with Selkie when he’s underwater.

Sirius’ responsible personality is also a key element to Selkie’s success, seeing as she works as the Vice Captain of the Oki Mariner ship. The dynamic she has with her boss is quite funny, since he’s always trying to look cute, even though she finds it weird and annoying.

  • First Manga Appearance: Chapter 124
  • First Anime Appearance: Episode 63

Having worked for one of the best heroes in the world, Sir Nighteye has a good eye for his own worthwhile sidekicks, and Bubble Girl is no exception. Alongside her friendly appearance and bubbly personality, Kaoruko Awata has proven to be an efficient member of the Nighteye Agency, especially during the raid on the Shie Hassaikai hideout.

Sir Nighteye was strict with Bubble Girl and reprimanded her often, but she grew to respect her former boss, and she learned a lot from him. That’s why she was so heartbroken when she heard of his passing, and was inspired to keep working in the Nighteye Agency afterward.

  • First Manga Appearance: Chapter 134
  • First Anime Appearance: Episode 69

The other prominent sidekick of the Nighteye Agency was Juzo Moashi, better known as Centipeder. Because of his centipede Quirk, Juzo has a bizarre appearance, but he never lets this stop him from being a true gentleman.

Centipeder used his centipede abilities to their full extent during the raid on the Yakuza’s hideout. He was so good at his job that he officially became Sir Nighteye’s successor after the hero’s tragic death. Though not much is known about their relationship, this means that Sir Nighteye trusted Centipeder more than anybody else on his team.

Worked With All Might

  • First Anime Appearance: Two Heroes (movie)
  • First Manga Appearance: Team-Up Missions Manga (Chapter 3.3)

When All Might traveled to the United States to become a better hero, he met a young man named David Shield. Despite his weak quirk, David became a crucial part of Toshinori’s career, building support items and costumes for him.

All Might quickly became one of the most beloved Pro Heroes of the United States, and none of that would have been possible without David’s assistance. He didn’t need to fight in the middle of the battlefield to be a good sidekick. All Might didn’t need extra help on that front. But David’s inventions and costumes were of great help, and that All Might would never would have been able to make on his own.

3 The Skycrawler

Works With Captain Celebrity

  • First Appearance: Vigilantes Manga (Chapter 1)

The protagonist of My Hero Academia: Vigilantes, Koichi Haimawari, originally didn’t have the best relationship with the iconic American hero, Captain Celebrity. Koichi saw him as an obnoxious person who was only doing heroic deeds for fame and attention. However, Captain Celebrity’s attitude slowly changed, and both of them managed to foster an amicable relationship.

Captain Celebrity became the honorable hero he always swore that he was. Koichi trained his quirk so much that he managed to defeat the mighty villain Number 6 during the events of the Naruhata Lockdown Arc. Afterward, Koichi flees to the United States. Captain Celebrity accepts him as his sidekick, with the new name The Skycrawler. Not much is known about their careers since, but seeing as Koichi was seen helping Japanese civilians after the Final War, it can be assumed that they’ve kept working together.

2 Burnin

Worked With Endeavor

images/news/2024/7/8/my-hero-academia-best-sidekicks-ranked_9.jpg

  • First Manga Appearance: Chapter 245
  • First Anime Appearance: Episode 102

Burnin (real name: Moe Kamiji) is not only the most recognizable member of the Flaming Sidekickers. She’s possibly the most iconic sidekick My Hero Academia due to her impeccable character design, unique fiery Quirk, and explosive personality. These elements align perfectly with Endeavor’s aesthetic and fighting style.

Burnin has been working for the Endeavor Agency for years. Her abilities have been of great help on several occasions, like in the Paranormal Liberation War or in the encounter against Dabi during the Final War. She has never left the Flame Hero’s side, not even after the truth about his son, Toya Todoroki, came to light. Burnin is the pinnacle of a true and loyal sidekick. She could easily become a Pro Hero of her own (or the leader of her current agency) after Endeavor’s retirement.

1 Sir Nighteye

Worked With All Might

images/news/2024/7/8/my-hero-academia-best-sidekicks-ranked_10.jpg

  • First Manga Appearance: Chapter 124
  • First Anime Appearance: Episode 63

Mirai Sasaki used to work for All Might himself. The #1 Pro Hero of Japan needed a worthwhile sidekick, and Sir Nighteye fulfilled this role. As powerful and kind as he has always been, All Might is not fit for running a professional agency, so Sir Nighteye was in charge of doing the busy paperwork. Still, he has also been shown to be quite proficient in battle, so it’s likely he helped on the battlefield as well.

It’s because of useful sidekicks and allies like Sir Nighteye that All Might managed to become the #1 Pro Hero. It’s a shame that they had a falling out caused by Sasaki’s worry about the prospect of his partner dying in battle. Nighteye eventually moved on to become a Pro Hero of his own, founding his own agency with his own sidekicks. But he never forgot the influence All Might had on him. Luckily, the two managed to make amends just before Sir Nighteye died.
