Ms. Marvel is Well Overdue for a Second Season on Disney+

Highlights

  • Ms. Marvel received critical acclaim, boasting a 98% Rotten Tomatoes rating for its first season.
  • Fans are eager for a second season of Ms. Marvel, given the success and potential storylines of the show.
  • A renewal for Ms. Marvel could help build excitement for a potential Young Avengers film and contribute to the MCU’s positive buzz.

Over the years, Marvel Television has brought fans plenty of television shows, from Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. to Daredevil. While those series were decently popular, with Daredevil even managing to secure a reboot from Marvel Studios, it wasn’t until Marvel launched its own television shows with WandaVision, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, and Loki that Marvel found true success on television. Even still, despite its shows proving popular with critics and fans alike, the studio has seldom given its shows more than one season, with Loki being the exception thus far. There is one other series deserving of a second season, though: Ms. Marvel.

Ms. Marvel debuted in June 2022. Although fans were originally skeptical of the series following reports of changes to Kamala’s powers, the series was quickly hailed one of Marvel Studios’ best, with fans clamoring for more of the young hero. She would go on to appear in The Marvels, with the end credits scene promising she’d be important to the Marvel Cinematic Universe going forward, but it remains unclear when she’ll next appear. With that in mind, if Loki can nab a second season, why can’t Ms. Marvel?

Like with many other comic book shows, there were plenty of rumors surrounding Ms. Marvel‘s first season long before it even debuted. From alleged villains, to power changes, and reports that Marvel was unhappy with the series, it seemed Ms. Marvel was doomed – or at least would repeat the mistakes of The Falcon and the Winter Soldier. Then the series finally debuted and, despite changes to Kamala’s power on screen, fans quickly fell in love with Kamala and her family. As it stands, the series has a 98% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, higher than WandaVision‘s 92% rating and Loki‘s 92% rating for its first season. Yet, both of those shows have received follow-ups on Disney+ with Agatha All Along and a second season of Loki.

The series has been called a fresh addition to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, offering a story that not only centered around family but a diverse culture. It did an excellent job at capturing the essence of the comics, even doing a pretty great job of adapting the hero’s costume from the comic book pages. With critics and fans calling the show one of Marvel’s best projects to date, it remains unclear why Marvel Studios is still debating a second season of the series. Even if Kamala helps bring together the Young Avengers in the future, as has been rumored for a long, long time now, there are still plenty of stories to explore with the young hero on the small screen. If there’s any Marvel Studios series that deserves a second season more than any of the others, it has to be Ms. Marvel.

Why Ms. Marvel Deserves a Second Season

As it stands, Marvel Studios has only given a second season renewal to Loki. It has ordered spinoffs of WandaVision, with Agatha All Along and Vision Quest, but those are separate stories. With reports suggesting Bob Iger and Marvel Studios will be carefully exploring future Disney+ projects, as well as Marvel films, it’s understandable that the studio is being cautious. After all, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier and Secret Invasion were not as successful as they hoped, but Ms. Marvel did find an audience and managed to create a star out of its leading lady – Iman Vellani. With multiple comic runs completed now, there is still plenty for Marvel to explore with Kamala on the small screen that doesn’t involve the addition of other heroes.

More importantly, though, a second season of Ms. Marvel can make fans excited about the prospect of a Young Avengers film. With a single season and her appearance in The Marvels, the latter of which bombed at the box office, building positive buzz for the MCU’s future would be a smart move and a second season of Ms. Marvel can do just that. It’s normal for heroes to have their own films/shows separate from the team-ups, allowing the audience to explore their stories and further develop the characters we’ve all come to know and love. With an already stellar first season in the books, a second season of Ms. Marvel can continue to explore Kamala’s life as she struggles to balance school, home and becoming a hero, much like the Spider-Man films. Ms. Marvel might be a newer addition to the Marvel Comics, having made her debut in August 2013, but in that short time, Kamala has already become a Marvel mainstay and deserves to shine rather than sit on the sidelines.

While fans wait to see when Kamala pops up next, they can rewatch the entire first season of Ms. Marvel which is exclusively streaming now on Disney+. Or if they prefer, they can watch Kamala as she teams up with her idol, Captain Marvel, and Monica Rambeau in Marvel Studios’ The Marvels.
