6 Things We Know About The MCU’s Daredevil: Born Again

Fans of the MCU were ecstatic when the company announced in July 2022 that Charlie Cox would be returning as Matt Murdock for a new Disney+ show, titled Daredevil: Born Again. This initial announcement also included details that the first season would have eighteen episodes and that it would be lighter in tone than the Netflix show, which ran for three seasons under the title, Daredevil. However, this version of the show was scrapped entirely in October 2023, and a new version of the series is now coming in 2025.

The huge reshuffle of Daredevil: Born Again has left a lot of fans confused about what is happening with the show. Charlie Cox is still returning as the main character, and there are a few more details about the show that have been released.

6 Born Again

The Show Is Set To Be Based On One Of The Most Famous Comic Runs

Although the full plot of this new show is yet to be revealed, the title the developers have picked for Daredevil: Born Again tells fans more than they need to know. Born Again is also the title of a 1986 Daredevilcomic series written by Frank Miller. In the story, Karen Page reveals to the Kingpin that Matt Murdock is Daredevil, and Fisk uses this information to ruin the blind lawyer’s reputation. Daredevil is forced to give up crime-fighting and ends up homeless.

While the MCU rarely follows the comic storylines exactly in their live-action projects, they would not have chosen this title for the show if they weren’t going to adapt some elements of the source material.

5 Foggy And Karen Are Returning

Matt’s Friends From The Netflix Show Are Back

Two of Daredevil’s biggest supporting players are Karen Page and Foggy Nelson. The pair was played by Deborah Ann-Woll and Elden Henson in the Netflix Daredevil show, but the pair were not included in the original version of Daredevil: Born Again which has been scrapped.

Fortunately for fans of these characters, the pair have both been seen on the set of the new series, and IMDb has confirmed that both actors will be reprising their roles for the new show. Plus, behind-the-scenes set photos have shown that the law practice where Foggy and Matt work has been renamed to include Karen in the name, as was seen at the end of the Netflix show.

4 Bullseye

Daredevil’s Nemesis Is Coming Back

In the comics, Bullseye is one of Daredevil’s biggest foes. This hitman for hire has an impeccable aim and is more of a street-level rogue. It took a while for this enemy to appear in the Netflix Daredevil show, but he finally had a big arc in the third season and was played by Wilson Bethel. In the previous show, Bullseye worked for Kingpin and posed as Daredevil in an effort to make the vigilante look bad. The character was finally defeated, but a sting at the end of that season ended on a cliffhanger that revealed Bullseye was still alive.

While there is no concrete evidence to suggest that the MCU will follow this plot in Daredevil: Born Again, it does seem like a possibility now that they are bringing the same actor back. If they wanted to do a full reboot, they would have recast the role. However, the re-inclusion of Bethel seems to confirm that the show wants Daredevil and Bullseye to have a shared history in the MCU.

3 Fisk As A Politician

The Kingpin Has Big Goals In The MCU

Charlie Cox isn’t the only fan favorite from the Netflix Marvel shows. Viewers were equally compelled by the portrayal of the hero’s greatest enemy, Wilson Fisk, by Vincent D’Onofrio. When Charlie Cox returned as Matt Murdock in the MCU’s Spider-Man: No Way Home, it seemed inevitable that D’Onofrio would also be returning as Fisk. Sure enough, Fisk from the Netflix universe debuted in an episode of Hawkeye in the same week.

The MCU has tweaked this version of the character slightly to make him fit their universe. This version of Wilson Fisk has already been shown to possess enhanced strength and wears Hawaiian shirts. However, he is still as ambitious as ever. The post-credit sting at the end of the Echo TV series showed that Fisk is about to throw his hat in the ring to become the mayor of New York City.

As it has been announced that Fisk is going to play a role in Daredevil: Born Again, fans can assume we will see him engaging in this political career in the show, either during the run-up to an election or already acting as the mayor. Plus, Fisk as mayor of New York City is likely to have an impact on other characters in the MCU.

2 Production

The Series Has A New Showrunner

The original version of Daredevil: Born Again was produced and written by Matt Corman and Chris Ord. However, they were let go from the project when Marvel decided to overhaul the production and start again. Rather than having writers lead their Disney+ shows, the studio wanted to go in a more traditional direction and have a full-time showrunner. As a result, they hired Dario Scardapane, who worked on the Netflix Punisher show, as the new showrunner.

Dario Scardapane is reworking some of the footage that has already been shot, and it is likely that Ord and Corman will still get producer credits for Daredevil: Born Again. However, this new version of the show is trying to be more serialized, instead of featuring eighteen individual stories.

1 Jon Bernthal Is The MCU’s Punisher

Frank Castle Has Been Cast

The Punisher is a highly violent vigilante in Marvel Comics, which is why it is understandable that Disney has refrained from including the character in the MCU for so long. However, he is still one of the company’s most popular characters, and he only received more fans when he appeared in season two of Netflix’s Daredevil. This version of the character, played by Jon Bernthal, was so popular that he even got a spin-off show on Netflix that ran for two seasons.

With Disney+ shows, like Echo, using a more mature age rating, the idea of The Punisher appearing in the MCU seemed more likely. Fortunately, for the fans of the character, The Punisher is arriving in that universe sooner than expected. At the start of 2024, Marvel announced that The Punisher would appear in Daredevil: Born Again, and would indeed be played by Jon Bernthal again. If this character is received well once more, then there is a lot more they could do with this version of the character in the MCU.
