Mash Burnedead of Mashle: Magic and Muscles is one of those unfortunate anime protagonists who are born in a place that completely rejects their existence putting them in a constant state of self-defense just to survive. While the challenges in Mash’s life are inexcusably unjust, he is also lucky to be adopted by Regro who has raised him as his son in isolation from the outside world that rejects the magic-less.
Despite sharing the world with people who deem his existence as blasphemous, Mash is incredibly generous and kind thanks to the values instilled by his adoptive father. However, Regro has also ensured that his son is not defenseless in a cruel world that wants him dead. He has played a vital role in honing Mash’s physical abilities to the point that it is almost impossible to distinguish his superhuman powers from magic.
Mash Possesses Superhuman Muscle Powers
Burnedead Compensates for His Magiclessness With Inhuman Strength
As mentioned earlier, Mash is unfortunately born magicless and does not possess the innate advantage almost every other individual has in his world. This naturally puts him in a vulnerable state especially because people like him are considered an abomination against God and executed mercilessly. Unlike individuals who use magic and are born with a mark that distinguishes them from the power-less, Mash relies heavily on muscle-based techniques to be on par with his peers. One hilarious display of this happens in episode 3 of the Shounen series when Marvina Mevitable is tasked to teach her students the art of using flying broomsticks.
Mash is pitted against one of his peers for a race that is designed to test his skill. Despite being born magicless, Mash shocks his classmates by flying so fast that his opponent does not even have the time to move from his position. Marvina Mevitable opines that Mash has made a world record and could barely believe what she witnessed. It turns out that Burnedead simply flung his broom forward with all his might and relied on his muscles to catch up.
In his debut Duelo match, Mash again relies on his muscles and after his Captain gets injured. Since he can’t fly, Mash uses his hamstring muscles to jump high enough into the hair to be on the same level as other players. He then proceeds to move his legs strategically fast enough that he creates a force capable of eliminating gravity. As Mash hangs in the air, he then uses his superhuman muscle strength to throw the ball through the hoop in a manner that it boomerangs back to him. This allows him to keep scoring until Adler has scored 999 points and wins the game.
However, Mash’s display of superior strength does not stop there. In episode 4, he is confronted by Lance Crown who wants to become the Divine Visionary so that he can protect his sick sister Anna. The powerful mage tests Mash but soon realizes that his opponent is not an ordinary person. Lance puts Mash’s friends Lemon, Finn, and Tom in a small bottle and drops it off the side of a cliff. Mash again relies on his hamstring muscle to use an ability named Big Bang Dash to move at incredibly high speed. Lance is barely able to notice his movement and he manages to not only catch up to the bottle falling down the cliff but also gets back right in front of his adversary before he can even blink.
During the off-campus forest class in episode 5, a Lang student named Silva decides to target the Adler House members to steal their coins. Later he brutally beats up Dot and ruins Mash’s cream puff, enraging the latter to fight him. Mash not only dodges all of Silva’s magic tricks, he runs towards his adversary with inhuman speed and folds his fingers into a fist following which he delivers the Triceps Magic: Ballista Knuckle. The punch is so powerful that Silva is flung into the air and drops about 30-40 feet far from the point of impact. Despite winning two gold coins in his first year, Silva appears helpless in front of Mash to the point that the latter feels sorry for him and decides to not beat him up anymore.
Another powerful technique used by Mash relies on him folding his hand into a fist and twisting his body following which he rushes forward and thrashes his adversaries with a series of strikes. The strategy is named Full Muscles Magic: Hurricane Rush and is so dangerous that it sends even the most powerful mages slamming into walls. Burnedead also utilizes the Python Choke technique to make his opponents pass out and hallucinate by choking their necks with his muscular biceps.
Although it is evident that Mash is dangerously powerful, he only manages to fully utilize his true strength when he comprehends the mechanisms of his muscles. This happens when he arrives at Innocent Zero’s castle and realizes that he needs to break the walls to get inside. Burnedead punches the walls with his full strength using the technique named Bio-Mechanics Cannon: Pronation and creates multiple large holes in the castle.
Hell Fall is another robust technique that Mash uses in which he pile drives his enemies into the ground after flipping them mid-air. Some other noteworthy strategies used by Burnedead include Guillotine Kick, Special Art Body Substitution Jutsu, Big Three Dragon Dead Lift, Barbarian Punch, and Barbarian Shot. Although it is evident that Mash possesses superhuman strength he becomes truly frightening when he stops holding back.
Mash’s Unlimited Physical Mode And the Weakness Mode
Mash Utilizes Some Special Techniques and Strategies to Overpower His Adversaries
Mash Burnedead remains stoic even when he faces dangerous enemies who will not be hesitant to take his life. This is evidence of his self-belief which is rooted in the fact that he never truly uses his full potential until he meets a worthy adversary. When Burnedead needs to utilize his true muscle strength, he gets rid of his wrist weights which allows him to enter the Unlimited Physical Mode. When he does that, he significantly changes his overall power and reflexes.
The Unlimited Physical Mode opens up two more dangerous techniques named Punch Squared and Unlimited Hammer for Burnedead’s use. In the former, he starts by punching his opponents twice and in each turn squares the number of punches while in the latter he beats his adversaries with both arms. The Unlimited Physical Mode also unlocks his supreme reflexes and he moves at such an extremely fast pace that his movements leave afterimages.
Another dangerous technique used by Mash is known as the Weakness Mode. The condition of flawless lethargy is often also described by Burnedead’s opponents as a perfect state of offense and defense. While using this mode, Mash showcases superhuman control over his muscles and primarily relies on the contraction of each fiber in use. By letting his body loose, Burnedead makes it almost impossible for his adversaries to hurt him even when they are overexerting themselves. This technique is so effective that it often frustrates his opponents while Mash is easily able to unleash devastating attacks.
The Unlimited Physical Mode and Weakness Mode are quite powerful but there are a few other techniques and physical attributes that make Mash almost invincible. One of the biggest hurdles in defeating Burndead is his immense durability and endurance which allows him to continue fighting despite severe wounds. One incredibly shocking demonstration of his endurability is showcased during his fight with Walkis Magic Academy’s Domina Blowelive, who leaves a life-threatening wound on Mash’s torso. Despite a huge gaping hole in his body, Burnedead continues fighting and shocks everyone with his incredible resolve.
Apart from his superhuman endurance and durability, Mash also possesses inhuman senses. He is very accurate when it comes to assessing his opponent’s strategies and adjusts accordingly during fights. A few other dangerous powers that Mash possesses include Divine Punishment, Galaxy Crash, Gaia Burst, Tornado Generation, and Lung Control. All these unique modes, fighting strategies, powers, and abilities combine to make Mash Burnedead an almost invincible combatant on par with some of the most iconic anime characters of all time.
