Highlights
- Miles Morales has defied the odds and become one of Marvel’s longest-serving heroes to not die, despite the potential dangers he faces as Spider-Man.
- Captain Marvel, despite being nearly invincible, has never died in the comics and continues to fight off even the most powerful villains.
- America Chavez’s ability to traverse dimensions makes it difficult to kill her, despite her close ties to other mortal combat-prone Marvel heroes.
Whether it is DC Comics or Marvel Comics, being a superhero is a dangerous profession. From fighting villains to saving people from disasters, superheroes put their lives on the line every time they step up into their spandex. That’s why so many superheroes have died in the comics, even if they have returned.

Not every Marvel Comics or movie character has met a gruesome end. Some have made it without ever dying and being brought back to life. While the death of a beloved hero may spark sales of a comic book series, these heroes haven’t needed to die yet.
10 Miles Morales
Survived Ultimate Universe
- Debuted in 2011
Miles Morales may be at the forefront of pop culture due to the Spider-Verse series of films, but he first burst on the scene in 2011 as a Spider-Man variant. He originated in the Ultimate Universe before making his way to Earth-616. The two universes collided in the Secret Wars storyline, and Miles is one of the few survivors.
Secret Wars was the most likely scenario for Miles to be killed off, but now he is one of the longest-serving heroes in Marvel to not die. While he certainly could be killed off in the future, right now, Miles Morales is still standing tall.

8 Carol Danvers
Almost Too Powerful
- Debuted in 1968
Captain Marvel has similar issues to DC’s Superman in that she is overpowered when going up against typical supervillains. But unlike Kal-El, Carol Danvers has never died in the comics. She has gone through several superhero names and iterations, but no one has been able to take her down permanently.
Carol Danvers has been severely beaten by some of the most powerful villains in the Marvel universe, but she has always been able to come back from the brink of death. The MCU has helped her take her place as one of the premier Marvel superheroes, so it’ll be interesting to see what happens going forward.
7 America Chavez –
Easily Escapes Danger
- Debuted in 2011
America Chavez can jump between dimensions in the multiverse, making it much easier for her to escape danger than most other superheroes. She has been a constant presence in the Marvel Universe since debuting in 2011. America Chavez has become an integral part of the Young Avengers, especially with her close friendship with Kate Bishop.
RELATED: Marvel: Times Spider-Man Lost His PowersIt’s a bit surprising she hasn’t been killed yet since she is so closely connected to other Marvel heroes who are often the target of mortal combat. But her ability to literally punch a hole in the universe makes her hard to kill. America made her film debut in Dr. Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.
6 Sue Storm
The Only Fantastic Four Member To Never Die
- Debuted in 1961
Sue Storm has a unique ability to turn herself invisible and to manipulate invisible energy. This makes her an invaluable member of The Fantastic Four. These powers have allowed her to keep herself and her team safe from harm in some of the worst battles they’ve faced.
However, if she’s not near her teammates, she’s unable to protect them, even if her invisible shield is nearly impenetrable. The other three members of the team have died at different times in the series, however, Sue Storm always survives.
5 Dr. Ted Sallis
Immortal As Man-Thing
- Debuted in 1971
While many heroes manage to escape death due to their skill, some luck, or a combination of the two, only Man-Thing has survived purely due to an inability to die. Dr. Ted Sallis evolved into Man-Thing, whose plant-based powers make him functionally immortal.
Man-Thing serves as the guard of the Nexus of All Realities. The mystical powers of that space give Man-Thing virtual immortality. While he hasn’t died, leaving the Nexus can incapacitate him, and he must be returned to the area so the magic can revive him.
4 Gambit
Most Famous X-Man To Escape Death
- Debuted in 1990
While he was a later introduction to the X-Men, Gambit is now one of the group’s longest-tenured members and one of the few to never die. Apocalypse was able to convert Gambit into his Horseman of Death, but Gambit still managed to avoid death.
Before becoming a hero, Gambit was a member of the Thieves Guild which helps him be always one step ahead of his opponents. Plus, his mutant powers allow him to put up enough offense that his opponents aren’t usually able to defeat him.
3 Norrin Radd
Always Escapes Death
- Debuted in 1965
One of Sue Storm’s compatriots who has also always managed to escape death is Norrin Radd’s version of the Silver Surfer. While other versions of the Surfer have tasted death, Norrin Radd uses the Power Cosmic to avoid being killed in Earth-616.
RELATED: Marvel: Best Members Of The CabalThis version of the Silver Surfer has had his body destroyed as he sacrificed his essence while battling Knull. However, his consciousness never died and the Silver Surfer was soon corporeal again.
2 Kamala Khan
Shapeshifts Out Of Trouble
- Debuted in 2013
Carol Danvers is not the only member of The Marvels to avoid death. Kamala Khan joined the Marvel lineup as Ms. Marvel, the first Muslim American character to headline her own comic book. The teenage superhero is extremely powerful as her powers include shapeshifting and stretching.
While she has had a shorter superhero career than Carol Danvers, she’s still been able to survive everything thrown at her. She may eventually meet death, or she may ascend to the new Captain Marvel if Carol Danvers ever meets death, but so far, both are still around.
1 Luke Cage
Impenetrable Skin
- Debuted In 1972
One of the Heroes for Hire, Luke Cage has bulletproof skin and incredible endurance. He’s effectively invincible which is why other allies like Daredevil and Iron Fist turn to him for help. While the latter have both died in the comics, Luke Cage only comes close to death when facing a universal threat.
He proved himself against existential threats like the Skrull Invasion and the Hand. While Luke Cage hasn’t died in the main universe, other versions of him have been killed in multiverses. The most notable example is when Deadpool snuck miniaturized bombs into his coffee to get around his impenetrable skin.
