Made in Abyss: The Golden City of the Scorching Sun (aka Season 2) revealed preview images and a synopsis for the upcoming episode 9 which will air on Wednesday, August 31. The new episode is titled “The Return” and it will focus on Faputa. The second season of the anime will end on September 28, with a double final episode.
The plot of the episode is described as:
In order to get Nanachi back from Belaf, Reg tells Fapyta that he wants a piece of her. Faputa, without hesitation, rips off a part of her own body and offers it to him on the condition that he fulfills a “certain promise.” Despite Reg’s concern, the “immortal” Faputa seems unconcerned, but the smell of blood drives the beasts mad. Reg hurries to bring the body parts back to the village but he is unable to decide whether or not he should fulfill his “promise” to Faputa…

Kinema Citrus is animating the sequel to the anime adaptation of Akihito Tsukushi’s manga. Theme songs for the season include “Katachi” by Azuna Ruko (opening) and “Endless Embrace” by Myth & Roid (ending). HIDIVE is streaming the entirety of the anime series and describes the plot of the second season as:
There is no going back for Riko, Reg, and Nanachi, and the only way forward is to the bottom of the Abyss. However, the three friends weren’t the first to enter the unknown. Whatever happened to all the other explorers who braved the Abyss?
