The protagonist of JJK, Yuji Itadori is going to be in the most important fight of his life in the Culling Game arc, as he takes on Sukuna in combat. As fans already know, Sukuna is the strongest character in the entire series, strong enough to defeat even the likes of Gojo in combat. Now, Yuji is the only one who stands in his path and it appears that these two are going to be engaged in an extended battle from here onwards.
Of course, given the level that Yuji is on, defeating Sukuna at this point in time seems almost impossible, however, provided a few prerequisites are met, Yuji can actually go on to win this fight in a very impressive manner.
Sukuna’s Strength
Ryomen Sukuna is, quite clearly, the strongest sorcerer at the moment. When he took over the body of Megumi, it was clear for the fans to see that he was now on a completely different level. With the 10 Shadows Technique at his disposal, coupled with the incredible power that he already had, Yuji was absolutely impossible for the vast majority of the sorcerers to take down. Even Gojo, the strongest modern sorcerer, failed to take him down, however, this was largely down to the fact that the story writing got very inconsistent at this point in the story. Regardless, the fact is that Gojo ended up losing this battle, and from there onwards, Sukuna ended up powering up even further, in a way.
He used his trump card, which was the ability to reincarnate into his original body, and when he was pushed against the wall by Kashimo, Sukuna relied on this power and brought forth his original body to crush Kashimo, who was, at this point, overwhelming him in combat. As expected, Kashimo was easily defeated by Sukuna and it was quite clear for the fans to say that he was on a completely different level now. With his incredible Reverse Cursed Technique, coupled with the amazing usage of Dismantle and Cleave, along with the slash that bisects the world, Sukuna was almost unstoppable in this fight. Not too long after Sukuna defeated Kashimo, he finally joined the battle with Hiromi Higuruma, and this incredible fight that is currently still going on.
Sukuna’s Nerfs At The Moment
While Sukuna certainly is incredibly powerful at this point in time, fans must also remember that he still has some nerfs on him. As fans know, Sukuna doesn’t seem like he’s capable of utilizing a Domain Expansion at this point in the story. This is because his brain was fried when Gojo utilized the power of Unlimited Void for less than 10 seconds on him. Ever since then, he has not been able to access his Domain Expansion and, it appears that this still remains to be the case at the moment. It is unknown if his Reverse Cursed Technique, which has slowed down significantly during his fight against Gojo, is back to normal or not. However, fans will likely find that out soon enough. Regardless, Sukuna clearly has some nerfs placed on him.
Apart from having his Domain Expansion taken, and potentially his Reverse Cursed Technique slowed, Sukuna also had his cursed tool confiscated recently by Deadly Sentencing. Now, Sukuna cannot rely on this power, however, he still has access to many of his other abilities, which is what he usually relies on anyway. That said, Yuji does have access to the Executioner’s Sword, and if he manages to connect with Sukuna using the sword, then, things are going to go south for the strongest sorcerer in history and, potentially, give Yuji the pathway to win this battle. This is going to be incredibly important going forward and, for this reason, JJK chapter 248 is going to be incredibly important, as that could be the make-or-break factor of this major fight.
Yuji’s Growth While Fighting Sukuna
If Yuji does indeed connect the Executioner’s Sword with Sukuna, technically, he should die as that is what the Executioner’s Sword does. However, Sukuna is likely going to find some way around it, as the plot always seems to aid him, and potentially get away with a nerf instead.
If that were to happen, then Sukuna would be weakened even further, and this would only mean that this fight would become even easier for Yuji. With all these nerfs in place, it is clear that Sukuna will not be fighting at full strength and that Yuji will now have a better chance of defeating him in combat. From there onwards, everything falls on Yuji to improve himself to a point where he can actually contend with Sukuna on an equal footing.
Of course, right now, as things stand, he cannot do this and he is lacking in many ways. However, Yuji has previously shown that he can grow in the thick of the battle and, if he has done this on many occasions before, there is nothing that suggests that he cannot do this again. Yuji is a very interesting sorcerer who, according to Gojo, could one day hit his level. By risking his life in an attempt to win, Yuji can, potentially, reach unprecedented levels of power. Perhaps, this can come through him manifesting cursed techniques and then developing a Domain Expansion. In this case, usually would then have a significant chance to defeat Sukuna in combat, and with that, this fight could potentially go in his favor.
Can Yuji Defeat Sukuna?
The question of whether Yuji can defeat Sukuna or not is one that every fan is wondering about, and the answer to this question is quite complicated. If both of these fighters were to fight at full strength, then, of course, as things are, Yuji would end up losing the battle quite badly. However, with the current nerfs that Sukuna has, and him potentially receiving more nerfs, things have leveled out quite a bit. Further, when taking into consideration the power-ups that Yuji will gain while fighting, this battle may end up being one that Yuji could potentially end up winning.
At the end of the day, Sukuna absolutely has to fall in combat, and when that happens, the one who will take him down is most likely going to be Yuji himself. Furthermore, fans must also remember that, despite Sukuna being tremendously overpowered, Yuji himself holds a lot of potential and he is special in many ways. Once Yuji fulfills his potential completely, he could, perhaps, become a sorcerer even greater than Sukuna, and become the undisputed strongest of all time.
There are many ways for Yuji to win this battle against Sukuna, and fans will have to sit back and watch him actually manage to do it. Of course, it is not going to be easy, however, no fight in JJK has been easy for him. Yuji will have to struggle, however, the chances for him to come out on top are higher than the chances for him to lose, simply because that is what the narrative demands. Sukuna, as strong as he is, has to fall in this arc of the story.
