Jujutsu Kaisen: Which Trio is the Strongest?

Highlights

  • The strongest characters in Jujutsu Kaisen are the main trio, who have great chemistry and powerful Cursed Techniques.
  • The Second Years of Tokyo Jujutsu High also have their strengths, with Maki’s Cursed Tools, Panda’s cores, and Inumaki’s Cursed Speech.
  • The trio from the Hidden Inventory arc, including Gojo, Geto, and Shoko, are the strongest characters overall and their actions shaped the Jujutsu world.

In Jujutsu Kaisen, many elements go into making this series as loved and popular as it is, the strongest of them being the relationships between the characters. Much like most other shonen franchises, Jujutsu Kaisen has set the main characters up in a trio and explores their relationships with one another as well as all their strengths and weaknesses in a battle.

The main trio of Yuji, Megumi, and Nobara are the central focus of the series as these characters are the most fleshed out and have also gotten the most screen time. However, in terms of strength, they are joined by their upperclassmen, the Kyoto Jujutsu High students and the Hidden Inventory trio, so let’s see which of these is the strongest of them all.

Todo Does Most of the Heavy Lifting for Kyoto High

Kyoto Jujutsu Tech is the sister High School to the main branch in Tokyo and consists of a total of 6 students at the time of the current story of Jujutsu Kaisen. While not exactly segmented into trios like the others, Kyoto High generally consists of far weaker characters that only serve a specific function on the battlefield and have very situational combat utility.

Todo’s Cursed Technique, Boogie Woogie, provided a crucial support role to Yuji in his fights against Hanami and Mahito, along with his own overwhelming strength. Still, though, Todo’s power does not speak for his entire team. While Kamo certainly isn’t weak, his Blood Manipulation is fairly limited and is massively outclassed by Choso’s mastery of the technique, whereas Mechamaru’s true potential, though staggering, was still proven to be ineffective against Mahito. All in all, most of the Kyoto students have a long way to go to match the strongest characters in the series.

The Second Years Have Their Strengths

The Second Years of Tokyo Jujutsu High are quite formidable as all 3 of them have their strengths that work quite well together. Maki, despite having very little Cursed Energy and no technique, is exceptionally strong and very adept at using a variety of Cursed Tools that give her an edge in any battle situation.

Panda is a Cursed Corpse who is very formidable in hand-to-hand combat, but his true power comes from the activation of his cores. These cores essentially consist of the powers of his siblings and each mode gives Panda a substantial boost in one facet or the other, which was best seen in his fight against Mechamaru during the Goodwill Event where he activated his Gorilla Mode.

Inumaki’s Cursed Technique is called Cursed Speech and is one of the few Inherited Techniques that have been seen in the franchise. This allows him to utter words imbued with Cursed Energy that make his targets do exactly as he says. Though the cost for more complex commands is great, the technique itself is very versatile and powerful.

The Main Trio Packs Quite a Punch

Jujutsu Kaisen’s main trio is one of the best in the entire shonen genre, as each of the 3 characters has great chemistry with one another and are some of the most well-written characters in all of modern anime. Along with this, Yuji, Megumi and Nobara each have their own Cursed Techniques that are quite strong, allowing them to fight against some of the toughest characters in the series.

Though Nobara is the weakest of the 3, she is no pushover. Her Straw Doll Technique has proven to be a very confusing and powerful technique for her enemies to deal with. This move is very multifaceted as it allows her to use two additional moves called ‘Resonance’ and ‘Hairpin’, letting her deal extra damage after the initial attack. This technique made her a valuable ally against Mahito as she was a natural counter to him.

Megumi’s Ten Shadows is tied with Gojo’s Limitless as the strongest Cursed Technique in the entire series, as was seen in Gojo’s battle against Sukuna. With the power to summon multiple Shikigami to perform different actions to help him in battle, Megumi can approach a fight many different ways, with his access to Mahoraga serving as the ultimate trump card that almost guarantees a win for him. However, Megumi still hasn’t been able to tame the Divine General, so he cannot use the technique to its full potential.

Yuji’s Cursed Technique is called the Divergent Fist, which coats his attacks in Cursed Energy, allowing him to deal double damage to whoever he hits. While useful, Todo told Yuji early on that this technique would likely fail against opponents Grade 1 or higher, causing Yuji to become more adept with his technique and the Black Flash. Also, Yuji’s true Cursed Technique is still a mystery, though it is awakening in his fight against Sukuna.

Gojo’s Trio Changed Jujutsu Society

During the Hidden Inventory arc, fans were introduced to younger versions of Gojo, Geto and Shoko, who served as the main trio of their time and the predecessors of the trio fans know today. The aftermath of this prequel arc laid the groundwork for everything to come, cementing the destinies of some characters as well as the current state of the Jujutsu world.

Although Shoko Ieri is the only one from this trio who isn’t classified as a Special Grade, her technique is still extremely impressive and incredibly useful. She is one of the only 2 characters who can use Reverse Cursed Technique externally to heal others, something that has given her one of the most important roles in the entire franchise as the main healer. Had Geto turned good at the end of Jujutsu Kaisen 0, Shoko would have healed his horrible injuries.

Geto himself is one of the only 4 recognized Special Grade Sorcerers, a rank of power so high that these characters simply cannot fit anywhere else on the grading system. His technique is Cursed Spirit Manipulation, where he can store and summon thousands of Cursed Spirits and make them do his bidding, as well as being able to use some of their powers. He was so strong that only another Special Grade could kill him, and even then, Kenjaku said Yuta was only able to win due to Geto dividing his forces.

Gojo is a character that needs no introduction. Being the head of the strongest of the Great Families of the Jujutsu world, Gojo had access to the Limitless Technique, in conjunction with his Six Eyes. This combination classified him as a walking calamity that could destroy entire nations on his own and he was widely regarded as not only the strongest Special Grade Sorcerer but the strongest sorcerer of the modern age.

In a competition of who would be the strongest of them all, the trio from the Hidden Inventory arc claims the top spot quite easily. However, seeing as how Megumi and Yuji are both yet to realize their full potential, they could eventually grow so much in power that they may even surpass Gojo and Geto, which was something that Gojo himself saw and wanted to happen.

Jujutsu Kaisen can be streamed on Amazon Prime and Netflix.
