Highlights

  • Blood Manipulation in Jujutsu Kaisen is a powerful technique unique to the Kamo Clan, with various deadly applications and abilities.
  • Choso, a 150-year-old Death Painting, showcases mastery over Blood Manipulation, using unique attacks like Supernova and Piercing Blood.
  • Other characters like Eso and Kechizu also utilize Blood Manipulation, displaying abilities such as Decay and the Rot Technique to deadly effect.

In Jujutsu Kaisen, the backbone of all combat is based around Cursed Techniques, which are essentially powerful abilities that are mostly unique to every character. These techniques suit the users’ personality, having strengths and weaknesses that mirror the person who uses them. Though they are more often unique to each sorcerer, there also exist some ‘Inherited Techniques’ that are passed down to members of certain families.

One such technique is the coveted Blood Manipulation, an extremely powerful and sought-after Cursed Technique that can only be wielded by members of the Kamo Clan, one of the Three Great Families of Jujutsu society. Jujutsu Kaisen shows Blood Manipulation quite often throughout the series, making it one of the most versatile and powerful abilities in the series, so let’s look at all the different uses it has!

What Is Blood Manipulation?

Being the most coveted of the Kamo Clan’s Inherited Techniques, Blood Manipulation allows the user to fully control and utilize their blood for several different effects. It allows them to manipulate every facet of their blood by altering its natural form, consistency, and hardness, and can even let them control the plasma and the red blood cell count of their blood. Whether internal or external, all blood can be used as long as it’s the user’s own.

Much like other similar techniques, the strength of its output greatly depends on the user’s own strength and proficiency with Cursed Energy. Characters like the Death Paintings, who can all trace their lineage to the Kamo Clan, use different forms of Blood Manipulation, although some abilities can be used by anyone who can use the technique.

Common Applications of Blood Manipulation:

  • Flowing Red Scale: By using this ability, the user increases their pulse rate, body temperature, and the number of red blood cells that their body produces, which greatly increases their physical and energy output in a fight. Choso used the ‘Flowing Red Scale: Stack’ against Yuji, which further multiplied the strength of his physical abilities.
  • Crimson Binding: This application of Blood Manipulation makes the user’s blood take the shape of a net that can ensnare a target. This is used by Noritoshi Kamo in his fight against Megumi in the Goodwill Event.
  • Slicing Exorcism: By hardening the blood and using its malleable form to sharpen itself, it becomes deadly enough to cut through very hard surfaces. Noritoshi Kamo used this ability to form a rotating, saw-like disc, whereas Choso used this ability as a long stream of blood.
  • Convergence: By using Cursed Energy, the user can compress their blood to its absolute limit, which can lead to a variety of uses. This was used by both Noritoshi Kamo and Choso.

Death Painting Arc

Choso was revealed to be a 150-year-old Death Painting who is incredibly powerful. Towards the middle part of the Shibuya Incident, he used his powers to defeat Yuji in a fight and would have killed him had it not been for his memory. Choso’s mastery over Blood Manipulation is by far the greatest in all of Jujutsu Kaisen, as he is seen to use many moves that no one else can, as well as inventing attacks with his blood.

Not only could Choso use all the previously listed abilities with ease, but he also used Blood Edge, an application of this Cursed Technique that forms a hardened melee weapon. Choso used Blood Meteorite by hardening his blood to a solid form as well as hardening parts of his body to protect himself from Yuji’s blows.

When you get to the other side, be sure to ask for my brothers’ forgiveness.

His most powerful moves come from using Convergence. The first is Supernova, which follows Convergence by making orbs of condensed blood explode in a very powerful reaction. The best move in Choso’s arsenal is the greatest known ability of Blood Manipulation, known as Piercing Blood, which uses Convergence to compress the blood to its limits, following by firing out a beam of pressurized blood that can get past almost any defense or armor in the series at the speed of sound.

Death Painting Arc

Being the younger brothers of Choso and powerful Death Paintings, Eso and Kechizu were classified as Special Grade Cursed Objects before they were brought to life. Just like Choso, their nature as Death Paintings makes their blood poisonous to anyone who touches it, as was seen when Nobara touched it in their fight and markings appeared on her body. This ability is known as Decay and is especially powerful against Cursed Spirits.

Both of their Innate Technique was known as the Rot Technique, an aspect that made their blood corrosive. This allowed them to decompose things with a mere touch of their blood, also granting them the ability to reshape and use their blood through special techniques. Eso could also use a Maximum Technique called Wing King, which granted him increased movement and speed, as well as the ability to shoot lines of blood from a distance.

Shinjuku Showdown Arc

Chapter 251 of the Jujutsu Kaisen manga confirms a very longstanding theory about Yuji and his abilities. As the fight against Sukuna proves to be ongoing and increasingly difficult for Jujutsu High, Yuta, Yuji, and Rika team up against the King of Curses. At one point, Sukuna delivers a powerful blow to Yuji’s stomach, causing the young sorcerer to throw up a lot of blood that lands on his enemy, only for Yuji to control it later on and make it explode in Sukuna’s face. Though not much is known about the extent to which Yuji can use Blood Manipulation, his ability to make it explode at will is very interesting.
