Jujutsu Kaisen: Gege Akutami Kills Off The Next Gojo

Highlights

  • Higuruma’s potential as the next Gojo is highly praised by both Kenjaku and Sukuna, showcasing his impressive talent and skill as a rising star in Jujutsu Sorcery.
  • Higuruma’s intense battle with Sukuna demonstrates his growth and ability to tap into the power of domain amplification, proving his strength and potential as a sorcerer.
  • Unfortunately, Higuruma’s impressive journey is cut short as he is ultimately killed off, leaving Yuji with the responsibility of carrying on his legacy and the Executioner’s Sword in the fight against Sukuna.

Jujutsu Kaisen is currently in one of its most intense fights and fans certainly got a proper end to 2023 with chapter 247 of the manga. With the likes of Higuruma being under the spotlight, this chapter of JJK was absolutely incredible and somewhat predictable for the fans. Hiromi Higuruma was highlighted by Gege as a rising star in the world of Jujutsu Sorcery and he certainly made his mark by impressing even Sukuna in combat.

Of course, in the end, it didn’t amount to much as he too, just like many others in the story, ended up succumbing to a very early death. This decision is one that splits opinion among the fans, however, for better or for worse, it is one that alters the direction of the story completely.

Hiromi Higuruma’s Potential As The Next Gojo

Over the course of the last few chapters, fans were absolutely fascinated by Higuruma and the path that he took as a sorcerer. Higuruma was seen rising gradually as a sorcerer and reaching new levels with each passing chapter. Fans already knew that he was incredibly talented and this was highlighted by the fact that Kenjaku considered him to be incredibly interesting.

Out of all those who awakened cursed techniques, Kenjaku only had his eyes on Higuruma and that just goes to show that he was truly a special talent indeed. As soon as he started fighting with Sukuna, the latter witnessed something similar. He was able to see the amount of potential that this individual carried and, according to him, he was a true genius who could one day reach the same level as Gojo himself. Sukuna gave him the praise of the highest order and these two characters continued fighting.

While both Kenjaku and Sukuna had the praise of the highest order for Higuruma, fans did not need to rely on them in order to see what a talent he truly was. It is almost baffling to know that Higuruma did not even possess his cursed technique all that long ago. In fact, he only awakened it shortly before the beginning of the Culling Game arc. In just 2 months, he mastered his cursed energy to the point where he even surpassed a Grade 1 Sorcerer. With each passing chapter, he grew even stronger and, right now, it wouldn’t be a stretch to say that he’s closer to a Special Grade Sorcerer than he is to a Grade One. His understanding of cursed energy was such that he could even reverse engineer domains and work his way from there. Truly, Higuruma was a special talent and someone who continually ended up reaching new heights as a sorcerer. Sadly, now, he has fallen as well.

Higuruma Vs Sukuna

In Jujutsu Kaisen chapter 247, fans got to see a proper fight between Higuruma and Sukuna. Fans already know that Higuruma was able to summon the Executioner’s Sword thanks to Sukuna getting a death sentence. He also managed to confiscate his cursed tool, and while this might not be as big an achievement in the grand scheme of things, it was still somewhat significant. While he was getting overpowered by Sukuna, he eventually learned how to protect himself better while fighting the King of Curses. He tapped into the power of domain amplification and, as soon as he did that, Sukuna was impressed by him. In fact, he took this one step further when he was able to alter between using his cursed technique and using domain amplification. According to Sukuna, the level at which he was using his cursed energy was the same as Sukuna himself and that just goes to show how strong he truly was.

As the fight continued, Sukuna completely overwhelmed him and combat and this was somewhat expected. Even though Higuruma had the power of domain amplification, he could not take the brunt of the attacks that Sukuna landed from close range as well as those he used incantations to make stronger. Sukuna used a powerful Dismantle to injure him greatly and cut away his limbs. The idea here was to force Higuruma to use reverse cursed technique and, in the face of danger, he successfully managed to do that as well.

Higuruma was able to regenerate his lost limbs and he did that in a manner where even Sukuna was surprised. He even managed to stab Sukuna’s hand, however, Sukuna had already chopped it off so the execution penalty did not really apply to him.

Higuruma’s Death In JJK

Towards the end of JJK chapter 247, fans were met with yet another shocking decision by the author when Higuruma was killed off. Even though he tapped it to the power of reverse cursed technique, the attacks that Sukuna launched at him came so fast and so rapidly that he did not have enough time to regenerate. Essentially, he couldn’t keep up with the King of Curses and that is where he fell in combat. However, before he fell, he entrusted the Executioner’s Sword to none other than Yuji.

Sukuna isn’t focused on Yuji as much at the moment, however, that is not to say that he won’t come into play anytime soon. Yuji is just around the corner and this means that he’s going to make an impression soon. Before Higuruma died, he gave the Executioner’s Sword to Yuji and, just like Nanami once did, he entrusted him with the fate of the world. In fact, Nanami’s image even flashed before Yuji’s eyes as he prepared to launch a powerful strike on Sukuna.

Right now, Higuruma’s death in JJK is absolutely certain. He has now died and he will not be relevant in the story anymore. This is a decision that hasn’t affected the fans all that much. This is simply because the way that the author is treating his characters is absolutely bizarre. Higuruma barely got a chapter to build up his character and before that could even happen, he was killed off. At this point, killing off characters with potential has become such an occurrence in JJK that fans don’t even bother attaching themselves to them. Furthermore, there is hardly any substance to JJK characters.

Regardless of that, the fact of the matter is that Higuruma is dead, and from here onwards, Yuji is going to be carrying on his hope in the form of the Executioner’s Sword. In the upcoming chapters of JJK, Yuji will be trying to execute Sukuna using the sword, however, this attempt is, more likely than not, going to fail. From there onwards, how Yuji is going to defeat Sukuna remains to be seen. Fans do not know what will happen to Yuji and Sukuna and who will triumph in the end, however, regardless, this fight is going to be absolutely intense. To witness all that, however, fans will have to wait for a long time as JJK is going on a break for the new year. JJK chapter 248 will be out in around 3 weeks.

Jujutsu Kaisen is available to read via Viz Media. The series can be read by the fans officially and for free on the Shonen Jump and the Manga Plus app. The release date for the next chapter of JJK, Jujutsu Kaisen chapter 247, is set to be January 7, 2024.
