Jujutsu Kaisen has given fans quite a lot of incredible battles over the years. Of course, in a series filled with amazing clashes, the clash of the strongest was always going to be illustrated to be at an entirely different level. That is precisely what Gege Akutami did with the amazing battle between Gojo and Sukuna, when these two individuals finally traded blows in JJK’s Shinjuku Showdown arc.

This arc gave fans the long-awaited battle between these Titans, and, as expected, they were neck and neck. However, in the end, it was Sukuna who ended up winning the battle and he did this by killing Gojo. At the time, it was quite unclear to the fans as to how Sukuna pulled it off. However, now, the author finally gave fans an explanation, along with telling them how Sukuna’s ultimate technique that eventually ended up killing Gojo works.

Sukuna struggled to kill Gojo and that much goes without saying. These two sorcerers were on a similar level, and for Sukuna to get rid of Gojo was certainly the most mammoth task that he had ever taken. In this battle, Sukuna could easily have lost his own life. On another day, it could have been Gojo who killed Sukuna, however, thanks to his incredible battle intellect, and above all, his access to abilities such as the 10 Shadows Technique, which gave him access to Mahoraga, Sukuna was able to get the job done. In the battle against Gojo, Sukuna made extensive use of the Divine General. Without him, Sukuna most definitely could not have gone past Gojo’s Infinity, and as a result, the battle would have been lost by him.

Thanks to Infinity, Gojo had one of the biggest advantages in this fight, and Sukuna had to figure a way around it. To get around it, Sukuna made use of Mahoraga to the absolute fullest. Using the Divine General, Sukuna tried to get the beast adapted to Gojo’s Limitless. While the process was certainly quite time-consuming and difficult, eventually, Mahoraga managed, and it gave Sukuna the blueprint to bypass Gojo’s Infinity. As a result, Sukuna’s ultimate technique, the World Bisecting Slash, was finally born. This was an incredible technique that Sukuna used to eventually kill Gojo.

Essentially, by expanding the target of his technique from Gojo to the entire world, Sukuna was able to cut through everything and anything that lay in between him and Gojo, and that included the Infinity as well. While the explanation for this technique is quite janky, at the end of the day, what mattered in the story was that Sukuna ended up winning the clash, and Gojo ended up losing his life.

The power of the World Splitting Dismantle is absolutely incredible. Using this technique, Sukuna can essentially kill anyone in a single shot. This technique, when launched at maximum power, is absolutely lethal. It can chop through anything in the entire world, and even Gojo’s Infinity couldn’t see it coming. As such, Sukuna attained an impressive tool after defeating Gojo, however, launching this attack at the strongest modern sorcerer was certainly not easy for the King of Curses.

The Requirements For Launching A World Splitting Slash

Essentially, the World Splitting Slash that Sukuna utilizes is just another form of Dismantle. However, this Dismantle is incredibly powerful. Sukuna used this power against Gojo off-panel. At the time, it was quite confusing to the fans as to what happened. Moments prior to it, Gojo was in complete control of the battle, and he scarred Shinjuku with his powerful Hollow Purple, which injured even Sukuna greatly. In fact, Sukuna ended up losing his hand and was in complete tatters following the Hollow Purple, while Gojo had recovered his Reverse Cursed Technique, as well as his Curse Technique.

At this point, Gojo had simply taken a massive advantage in the battle and he was on the path to victory. However, in the very next chapter, fans saw that Gojo had died. How exactly this happened was not clear back then. But now, the author has finally explained how Sukuna managed to pull this off.

In JJK chapter 255, the author makes it quite clear that for Sukuna to utilize the World Bisecting Slash, he has to fulfill certain conditions. The World Bisecting Slash cannot be launched by him like his other attacks. This attack requires him to make an Enmaten sign with his hands. This is the same sign that he makes while making use of Malevolent Shrine. This is just one of the conditions that he needs to fulfill if he wants to use the World Splitting Dismantle. Other than that, he also has to use incantations to launch this powerful attack, and fans have already seen that in the story previously. Usually, Sukuna uses the incantation that states “Scale of the Dragon, Recoil, Twin Meteors,” followed by Dismantle. Once he chants this, Sukuna is then able to launch the World Splitting Dismantle and chop his enemies in half.

Sukuna’s Binding Vow

Normally, Sukuna would not have been able to hit the Gojo with the World Splitting Dismantle. This is quite a powerful technique that, naturally, needs similar sacrifice. The power of this technique is too high for Sukuna to launch it without incantations and hand signs. However, since Gojo’s Hollow Purple had blown his hand away, Sukuna was unable to utilize this technique normally. That is precisely where Sukuna’s Binding Vow came in. According to what the author tells the fans in JJK chapter 255, Sukuna made a Binding Vow that allowed him to utilize this power with just one hand and, as a result, this technique was able to blaze past Gojo and slice him in half.

Of course, given that this was a Binding Vow, Sukuna most likely had to give something up to utilize it, which might have been the output of the technique, or something along those lines. Regardless, what matters is that this technique eventually worked and Sukuna was able to chop Gojo in half. While it certainly might have been frustrating for the fans to not receive an explanation sooner, now, the author of the series has explained the events leading to Gojo’s death. Still, it would have been better to see a proper illustration of these events in the actual chapter than have it be explained later on.

Regardless, this was an incredibly powerful technique and, ever since learning it against Gojo, Sukuna has utilized it across the many battles that he has fought. This technique was the very same one that ended up striking down even Yuta recently, and it continues to be an incredible technique in his arsenal. Fans will most definitely see more of it later down the line in JJK and, hopefully, a way for the sorcerers to avoid this as well.

Jujutsu Kaisen is available to read via Viz Media. The series can be read by the fans officially and for free on the Shonen Jump and the Manga Plus app. The release date for the next chapter of JJK, Jujutsu Kaisen chapter 255, is set to be March 30, 2024.
