Jujutsu Kaisen is in a very exciting phase right now, as the fans are getting to enjoy an incredible battle going on against Sukuna, which has involved multiple sorcerers. This raid began after the death of Gojo, and even right now, it is ongoing. It can be said that Gege has delivered an incredible array of chapters over the course of the last year or so, with the vast majority keeping the fans on the edge of their seats.

This arc has a serious shout for being the best in the entire series, and a lot of it hinges on its conclusion. Regardless, writing such an incredible arc is surely taxing, especially when mangaka are already overworked as much as they are. It appears that the author of the Jujutsu Kaisen series is now taking a break as well, just like many other mangaka have recently for health-related reasons.

Jujutsu Kaisen’s Current Events

Jujutsu Kaisen Continues The Events Of Shinjuku Showdown

Currently, Jujutsu Kaisen Is going over the events of the Shinjuku Showdown Arc. The Shinjuku Showdown began after the Culling Game, specifically after Sukuna took over the body of Megumi Fushiguro, and eventually, Gojo was unsealed. A short timeskip took place between these two arcs, and fans got to witness the beginning of this incredible story arc. This arc began with the battle of Gojo and Sukuna, and it was certainly an incredibly exciting way to start it off. In fact, it will be difficult for anything in this arc to top the battle between Gojo and Sukuna, and it was certainly absolutely spectacular in more ways than one.

However, following Gojo’s death, fans got to see multiple sorcerers trying their luck against the King of Curses, and while the excitement was certainly high, it wasn’t as high as it was when Gojo fought against Sukuna. Still, fans got some incredible moments of many sorcerers shining, but eventually, falling against the King of Curses. Yuji entered battle against Sukuna, and he did incredibly well to force the King of Curses into a corner.

Eventually, it was Yuta who came back using Gojo’s body who made all the difference in this fight. This was an absolutely massive shock for all the fans, and the author is now illustrating this amazing battle. However, it appears that the recent work has been taxing for the author, as is evident from his recent art. Gege has had some health-related issues over the course of the last year, and this has caused his art quality to dip. That is not to say that JJK doesn’t feature amazing art still, but fans can easily tell that the author is overworked.

Gege Akutami’s Sickness Leads To Hiatus

JJK Author Is Dealing With A Sudden Sickness

JJK chapter 262 was the last chapter that the author dropped before taking a hiatus. This chapter was incredibly short. In fact, fans were absolutely stunned at how short it was, spanning a total of seven pages. Out of the seven pages, 1 was a double-page spread, which means that if one counts it as a single page of action, then there were simply 6 pages in the entire chapter. This is incredibly short, but isn’t all that rare. In fact, when authors don’t have that much time or are struggling in one way or another, they usually drop shorter chapters. It appears that the author of the series has done something similar now, and this is going to be his last chapter before he takes an extended break.

Usually, Jujutsu Kaisen takes a two-week break. In other words, the author skips one issue of Weekly Shonen Jump. This time around, this break is somewhat different. Instead of skipping one issue, JJK is going to skip two issues of Weekly Shonen Jump. This means that after chapter 262 drops in Shonen Jump Issue #28, issue #29, which is going to be dropping next weekend, in issue #30, which is going to be the week after, are both going to be skipped. JJK is set to return in Weekly Shonen Jump issue #31, which is set to drop on 30 June 2024.

Of course, as is evident, the reason for this hiatus from the author is a sudden sickness. It isn’t known what exactly the sickness is, but one can rest assured that the incredibly exhausting schedule of leading life as a Shonen Jump mangaka has to do with it. Authors in the Shonen Jump industry rarely ever get rest. In fact, Kishimoto, the famous mangaka of the Naruto series, once mentioned that he actually gets just 3 hours of sleep a day and the rest is spent working. Under these conditions, one can see why Shonen Jump authors suffer so much in terms of their health.

Gege Akutami himself has struggled quite a lot, despite the manga not being anywhere close to the length of Naruto or One Piece. This just shows how much pressure has been put on incredibly talented artists and there something needs to be done about it.

What To Expect When JJK Returns?

Yuta Vs Sukuna Is Set To Continue Once JJK Returns

Jujutsu Kaisen is going to return at the end of June. When JJK does return, fans will get to witness chapter 263 and it will surely set the world alight. This chapter is likely going to be the average JJK chapter length, which is going to be around 17 pages. It will cover the domain clash between Yuta and Sukuna. In the previous chapter, fans got to see the domain clash between these two play out, and Yuta followed Gojo’s footsteps and created a basketball-sized domain. This tiny domain allowed him to strengthen his barrier to withstand Malevolent Shrine for up to 3 minutes. Now, Yuta is aiming to damage Sukuna enough inside the domain to a point where he cannot maintain Malevolent Shrine anymore, while Sukuna aims to destroy Unlimited Void from the outside and then expand his domain to kill everyone. This domain battle is one that the entire JJK world hinges on. This is exactly what fans are going to be treated with when the manga does return and it is going to be absolutely impeccable. Essentially, one can say that one of the most important chapters is going to be dropping when JJK does return from its break, and it is certainly going to be glorious.

For now, fans need to understand that the author needs his rest and that even 3 weeks that he is taking off is probably not enough for him. Still, Gege is dedicated to finishing his story in the way that he wants, and for that reason, he will be returning soon enough. For these weeks, fans will have to sit back patiently and, in the meanwhile, theorize about the multiple fun topics that JJK has to offer.

Jujutsu Kaisen is available to read via Viz Media. The series can be read by the fans officially and for free on the Shonen Jump and the Manga Plus app. The release date for the next chapter of JJK, Jujutsu Kaisen chapter 263, is set to be June 30, 2024.
